That's funny. We must be watching two different games. 7 power plays called for Chicago and only 3 for Calgary...

I do know one thing, several Chicago players faces don't feel too good this morning after mashing the glass hard and often last night. :tu
The hits were 20-10 in favor of Calgary at one point in the second period. Not sure how it ended up.

If the Flames show up and hit like they did in Game 3, Game four will be theirs for the taking.
From the little I've seen of the other series, I think the Hawks/Flames series has been the most entertaining Play-off style hockey.

Go Flames!

What a GREAT game! Playoff Hockey, my friend... they let them play. Staal didn't get the call on his last breakaway either.

Surprised they didn't call anything with Brodeur... normally he just tells the refs he wants a call and gets it the first time somebody gets within 6 feet of the crease. :D

Congrats to Vancouver!!
My Blues got swept, what can I say...I enjoyed them just getting to the playoffs this year. Their a young team, we'll see how things go next season.

The good news, I get to watch a playoff game almost every night for another month and then some. :tu

Seeing as how they were both non canadian teams I will :r at the fixed. NHL dont have to worry about ratings going to shiet from no canadian teams being left. Yeah I said it :tu

As to what the refs saw, they saw it very clearly and made the right call based on what I saw. The Goalie owns the BLUE paint. Not the WHITE paint, yes the white part is painted also. As to not getting the call outside the blue paint, this isnt 2 years ago when flopping Roloson was getting goalie inter calls 2 feet out outside the crease. Now you want to talk about a fix, that was a fix.

When the Goalie leaves the BLUE paint and incidental contact is made while a player is gaining position its generally 100% legal. Having played and still playing the game I can honestly say I have just as much right to the ice outside the blue paint as the hampster does. I also expect to take some abuse if I try to stand there. Look at where Broduers pads are and where he is when he gets up. Clearly the hampster left the cage and as a result any incidental bumps occurring while fighting for position are legal. You want to be pissed at someone? Be pissed at the two Dman who left Jokinen to bump with Broduer. Would have thought one of the dman would have made his life miserable and cleared him out of area. JoKinen tied up and moved Marty has a clear view of a point shot equals easy save, equals overtime. The Refs would not make a call in that situation if the dman gave him hell and tied him up moving him. Not with 4 seconds left int he playoffs. The D really screwed up leaving a forward alone screening the goalie and making the goaile fend for himself.

Im neither a devils or canes fan, just saw good old fashioned playoff hockey. Absolutely nothing dirty and completely legal. Your team fought back but in the end luck was not on their side. Hell even the Devils head coach while complaining in the post game admitted Broduer was out of the crease.

On a positive not for us in San Jose the Sharks found their sack tonight and beat the ducks. :tu

As for you WAYNE!!!!!! :) I have been a season ticket holder for 9 years. Supported them in the playoffs every year. I am tired as are many of the tradition of poor playoff performances and a seeing lack of nuts every year. No fair weather. More like damn tired of the **** they pull every year in the playoffs

Yes, fair game same as any other player. You wouldn't be able to prevent him from returning to the crease though, like obstruction.

I would have to add that you can't take a shot at them as they are often in vulneral positions. But if they are out of the crease and get bumped in the process of scoring a goal it should count.

smokeyandthebandit05 04-22-2009 12:39 PM

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread

I think if the goalie decides to venture out of the crease he is fair game. Its just one ref called it a goal the other said no goal. The replay was sent it upstairs, and they ruled it as a goal. I feel they should have sent it to Toronto or where ever the NHL headquarters are located for a review as well.

Ahbroody 04-22-2009 02:34 PM

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread

The review was based on the clock and not based on the contact.
After all it was a record for the goal scored with the least amount of time left on the clock. They had to review the goal to determine if it crossed the line before the time expired.

I am not an expert on officiating but a goal cannot be reviewed based on a contact with the goalie or a penalty with another player on the ice. Thats the job of the on ice officials. Part of the reasoning behind this is that a camera doesnt understand all the aspects of whats happening on the ice. There are often reasons why a ref wont call what appears to be an obvious call. As to review a players kicking motion yes, but the upstairs and Toronto will not overturn a goal based on the lack of a call on the ice. They dont have the authority.

icehog3 04-22-2009 04:03 PM

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread

The goalie is not "fair game" outside the crease, that is ridiculous. Those that say he is....so if the goalie goes behind the net to stop the puck, the opposition should be able to full out run him? Please, the NHL would be out of healthy goalies every season by December.

Certainly they should not be "untouchable", incidental contact and the like should not lead to a goalie interference penalty...but straight out "fair game"? No way. :2

I agree completely, and not just because my kid is a goalie! Incidental contact is just that. Incidental. Not on purpose. If they take a run at him, they should be penalized. In my opinion, harshly penalized.;) There isn't anyone who is fair game other than someone skating up the ice with the puck on their stick, and their head down.
