Freddie Sanchez was WELL on the base before the 1st baseman had the ball and Hahn said he was out. You could not have mistaken that unless you are a total idiot.

Holy ****. Hahn did it again.

This time the 1st basemen tried to catch the ball off the plate and it bounced out, he scooped it up, the runner past first, and Hahn called him out.

Bruce Bochy came out and Hahn ejected him.

The Yankees are playing like they did during their 4 WS in 5 years. There is not a game that they feel they should lose no matter how far down they may be.

By the way, anyone see Kevin Youkilis charge the mound last night?:r

Yes...is it just me or did Porcello get the better of him? Porcello threw him to the ground, not the other way around. The whole helmet throwing thing was unclassy, at best. There is etiquette in mound charging...drop the bat, keep the helmet on or get rid of it (crazy not to keep it on) and throw some fisti-cuffs ( you gonna get suspended anyways, make it worth while...LOL!!). But Porcello went towards the first base side (Sox dugout)...he should have gone towards the third base side. Brandon Inge did have a nice assisted tackle though...LOL!!! I see them both getting 5-10 games suspension for their actions.

Porcello held his own. Youk throwing the helmet was def unclassy, I think that will be reflected in the suspension he gets.

Glad I stayed up and watched the ninth. Was considering turning it off since they were 0-49 when trailing after the eigth, ouch.

What'd you think of the Alex Rios aquisition? I'm glad we didn't have to give anything up for him besides his salary. Should allow some of the vets to get a few days off here and there or if Quentin goes down again.

Right you are, Michael - he should have pulled a Pedro there in Fenway. Martinez was infamous for mouthing off, plunking batters, starting fights, then running into his dugout to hide behind the big boys. :r

And yeah, both players got a five-game hook from the Commish.

Oh, and both Jeets and A-Rod got plunked, and nobody started a brawl. Guess you have to be a BoSox to have the right to plunk yet not GET plunked.

I think we are in good shape as far the salary is concerned. Rios is due about 70million over the next 5 years I think. It definately complicates the outfield for us, but with CQ injury prone, Rios could take his spot. I would hate to see Pods or JD leave. We have a some guys with contracts that end next year, so who knows what will happen.

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Yeah, it's one thing to get moved off the plate, and getting drilled every now and then is to be expected as part of the game. But the beanball, intended or not, should be a no-no no-go with an automatic suspension. Just :2.

Sorry, Michael - better luck next season.

MedicCook 08-17-2009 02:11 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

I don't agree with suspending players for beanballs. It would make it unfair to the pitchers because you are now telling them that they can't pitch inside because if a pitch gets away from them they are going to be suspended. Accidents happen. A pitcher can not always control where the ball is going.

Darrell 08-17-2009 02:18 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Matt Cain did not bean him on purpose, Cain is not THAT guy.

With that said, anyone who has ever pitched a baseball knows that once it leaves your hand, you may have a general idea where it's headed, but the smallest snap of the wrist at release or lack thereof can send it completely off course, let's not forget wind plays a big factor in all of the pitching.

I disagree with an automatic suspension, **** happens. If it's blatant that the pitcher beaned the player intentionally, that's another story. You don't suspend a player for an accident.

MedicCook 08-17-2009 02:21 PM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

With the speed these MLBer's are throwing a 1/4" difference in release point on a 95MPH fastball is more than you can believe.

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

Quite the busy day yesterday. Number of teams came to terms with their draft picks, with the biggest being Strasburg deciding to sign on with the Washington Nationals (who by the way are 11-4 since the allstar break lol).

Yankees lost a stinger, beat by a guy we just released. Maybe if Tomko had outched like that with us he wouldn't have been cut :r

kelmac07 08-18-2009 09:53 AM

Re: *2009 MLB Thread*

By no means was Matt Cain trying to hit David Wright, it just got away from him. I do not believe there should be an automatic suspension either, it's part of the game. But I do not believe in the "head hunting". The backside, legs, back just NOT the head. Hell with all the armor these players wear today, they don't fell it half the time anyways...LOL!!

Wright said that he is going to come back this season. The Mets would be smart to just tel him to stay home and get ready for spring training. No use rushing him back to play in a lost season.

But did you hear his interview? He said he was embarrassed to be on the DL and that he needs to be on the field with his teammates. David Wright is a GAMER!!!! He has been the bright spot of this otherwise dismal season for us. :tu
