They have a known griz living in the area I will be. So hunting rifle is a Ruger M77 30-06 loaded with 180grain federals topped with a leupold VX3 3-9x40. My pistol is a Ruger super black hawk .44 MAG loaded with 240grain hollow points.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Well while I am doing this here is the gun that was my grandfathers it is a WINCHESTER MOD-06. There are dates on it from June 25 1888 May 30 1911. He passed away long before I was born, all of the electrical tape was put on by him so as along as I own it, it will never come off. It does fire all of children have learned to shot with it. It shots shorts longs and long rifles. During this time it's easier to find shorts then LR.

I finally found an upper that I liked enough to buy online.

This one.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

don't. 1/9 twist not 1/7 and not chrome lined.

Fordman4ever 09-29-2014 05:25 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Too late, i bought it already. Is chrome lined really that much better? Also, I don't think I need the 1:7 twist, I only plan on shooting 55 grain stuff for now. I have a buddy who hunts with an AR with a 1:9 twist and 55 grain bullets and he's taken down plenty of game.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Chrome helps with corosion and makes cleaning easier. i prefer 1/7 to 1/9 mainly because why not. always nice to have the option to shoot 77gr ammo. however delton is a fine maker. my first ar upper was a delton.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I have to agree Chrome keeps clean better and easier. However if you clean it right after you finish shooting its pretty easy to clean anyway and if you load your own you can choose a better quality powder and primer that burn cleaner to aid with cleaning too. Delton in my opinion is as good as anyone out there.

My upper is finally here. Only took 3 days. Now all I need is a rear sight.

I just received an order from midwayusa.com and I think they sent me used/returned parts. The charging handle is marred up and the bolt is obviously used.

has anyone else had this issue with midwayusa?

I've never ordered from them, but that certainly doesn't look new.

Return it, tell them you want your money back and buy an upper elsewhere.

I have used midway in the past and had no issues but I would send teh whole thing back demand a refund or NEW parts. Make sure you have it in writing they will replace with new parts at no additional charge before you send it back.

What do you guys know about BCM KMR uppers? Buddy at work has one for sale. Maybe I'll build another :tu I guess it has the gunfighter charging handle, and gunfighter compensator.

My past experience with Bravo Company (BCM) was pretty good. I am not sure about their aluminum and magnesium blended receivers. I have read both good and bad. Their Key Mod Rail (KMR) looks pretty interesting too.

I picked up an Accushot scope yesterday. It's nothing special, only 4x zoom, but the cross hairs light up green or red and the intensity is adjustable.

What's your budget? Most will tell you go with a used Browning Citori, as you can sometimes find them for $1200-1400. I opted for a CZ Canvasback. I think I paid $650 new for a 20g over/under. Great shotgun to get started with.

Looking in the $600 range. I have a chance to pick up an SKB semi auto for around that much. Anyone know anything about this company?

I love shooting with a break action over under. Very basic, and nice and light compared to a big pump action.

We've got a 20 and a 12 and both of them are easy to spend a whole day shooting clay.

Do you think trap and skeet are better with an over under or semi auto?

Purists will say O/U. My friend uses his semi, rather effectively.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I have an old Mossberg auto that I use for sporting clays. One day I'll get around to picking up an O/U, maybe. ;)

Cmon over Sat and you can try both. I have used single barrel, OU and currently use an auto and all are fun its up to your own preference and your budget.

Flynnster 10-09-2014 10:27 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Another thing to keep in mind is where you are shooting. At my range you aren't technically allowed more than 2 shells loaded at a time. I think it's to keep people from blowing all 6 shells in their pump action trying to hit the one clay.

dijit 10-09-2014 11:01 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

We allow only one shell at a time for trap, 2 for sporting clays.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Henry incoming.

Two years ago last week I ordered a Henry Varmint Express 17hmr rifle. Two years later I got bored with a gun I had yet to receive. Yesterday, I called up my local dealer and canceled the order and replaced it with a Henry Big Boy 357mag. I stopped by today only to find out these rifles are no where to be found currently. I swear, Henry must have their guns built by elves in a tree somewhere. My last resort was to ask about the limited additions they made last year in 44mag, 45 and 357mag. They were expensive. To my surprise, the distributor had two in stock. Now they have one. I bought one and should have it in my hands next Monday. Stupid money for a gun I'm going to shoot and not collect, but I was determined to get my hands on some sort of Henry rifle that I wanted. A rifle with bling. I hope nobody makes fun of me at the gun club.

My dad always wanted a Henry. He never wanted one of the large bores, he just really wanted a "Golden Boy". I was able for find one for him Christmas of 2012. As you can see, he was happy as a little boy in a candy shop!

Little did we know that was our last Christmas together, but I'm really glad that it was special for him!

Not a Shield owner but have the full sized M&P in both 9mm and .40. Somewhat prefer the 9mm version, more shots and less recoil.

Remo 10-15-2014 10:27 AM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Any M&P 9mm guys out there, I can get a great price on factory full size mags if you are in need/want of extras.
