Finished my current build, just debating on what rear sight to go with.

Are you looking for something with elevation adjustments (RIBZ) or fixed flip?

Do you plan on running optics?

Just fun and games. Will most likely put an adjustable trigger set in it so I can fool around with different pulls. Probably a heavy barrel too. Not sure about the rest yet. I will be doing my own reloads so I think a Dillon 105 will soon be mine as well.

Elevation preferred with fold capabilities, I plan on running a aim point pro in the carbine in the near future.

The Knight Armament is your best choice then.

I avoid the following. BSA, NSTAR, new TASCO, anything airsoft, anything that looks likes is a re-badged version of those 3. I also try to avoid MASSIVE variable power scopes the have HUGE bell diameters.

Reflex (red dot)
I use Trijicon, Aimpoint and Primary Arms
EOTECH is fine, I just personally don't like to use them.

I have a astigmatism so red dots have a halo effect and I prefer the softer 'point' of a Trijicon.

Primary Arms is a great for the money and is fine for most people who aren't going to war. They are great to keep around to use until you decide on a final optic.

Rifle Scopes
I mostly use 1-4x tactical unless shooting at 600-1000 yards and then they vary depending on rifle. Hunting rifles are mostly 1-4x or 3x9x

I use Trijicon, Leupold, Bushnell(Bausch & Lomb), Nikon, Redfield (very old and new), Old Weaver, 'other'

BUIS
Troy, Knight Armament, LMT, Magpul (usually I put Magpul on a new build until I settle on one of the other 3)

The vast majority of my shootings is 75 yards and under or 600-1000 yards. I shoot a variety of calibers but mostly stay in the .308/5.56 unless it very old military rifles and then its a mixed bag. I do shoot iron sights a lot at 600-1000 yards and it's probably my favorite thing to play around with using old military rifles from WWI and WWII.

My hunting varies and I choose the rifle based on what ever I haven't used in a while. The majority of my shots are under 200 yards. I have been using a 8.2" suppressed 300 BLK w/ 1-4x Trijicon scope lately and have been having great success with it.

Yesterday I took my Krinkov in 5.56x45 and set it up to run with the .30 cal AAC suppressor. Here is a quick video showing the difference is sound suppression and muzzle blast/flash.

Here is a gratuitous video....LOL

Re: First Firearm Thread.

Ok im at a crossroads. Ive narrowed my next gun down to two options. Although I would LOVE a sig p226 or a new duck gun I dont have anythingnfor big game. I have my ar but its 5.56 I could take a deer as long as it wasnt a monster and I know friends that hunt doesnwith their ar's and have no problem. However i would prefer a larger caliber which brings me to my crossroad. Do I go remington 700 chambered in .300win mag (I figure this way I can hunt anything in north america) or do I do another ar build but an AR10!? I absolutely lobved building my current ar so it would kill two birds with one stone. I figure by the time both rifles are done they will be roughly the same amount of money. I would wanna do some work to the 700. So I guess the real question is.. do I want .308 or .300 win mag? A horse kick to the shoulder that will take down a bear or a lesser pony nudge that will be limited on the size.of the game? And dont give me the ol "any caliber gun can kill anything" my shot and luck is not good enough to hit a bear in the eye socket with a .22 and have it travel to the brain or spine.

bonjing 04-04-2014 08:37 PM

Re: First Firearm Thread.

You could just get a different upper for your ar15, such as 300blk or some other caliber.

This could be the solution to my rats around the garage issue...

http://www.crosman.com/img/products/full/BTN292CX.jpg

.22 caliber, nitrogen piston, 900-1200 fps velocity depending on pellet, with integral suppressor!

At the very least, it could be a lot of fun. I could sit out on the deck, smoke a cigar and a rat at the same time!

Model 15-3 by lockspur74, on Flickr
Picked up a very clean 1978 S&W Combat Masterpiece. Always wanted a revolver, but couldn't justify buying a new one. My Dad told me about the model he was issued while in Strategic Air Command...and even made Marksman first time out. This one is a little newer, but same configuration.

Factory grips are on order. :)

Re: First Firearm Thread.

I've hunted for many years, rifles and shotguns but haven't had many chances to fire pistols. When I went to sign up for my CCW class I noticed they offered a 'Basic Pistol Safety & Shooting' class. I almost didn't sign up for it but I'm really glad I did. In my life I'd estimate the percentage of rounds I've fired from pistols is about 2%. I had no idea how completely wrong I was aiming when using one. So the course turned out to be really helpful from that aspect.

We started with the upper left and went clockwise around, finishing with 2 shots at the center. Each round was 12 shots at 25ft. It was pretty cool to see how everyone improved with each round.

Re: First Firearm Thread.

holy hell that is some fast learning! Pistol shooting is no joke. I believe the rule of thumb is something about giving a pistol shooter a rifle and he'll do fine. give a rifle shooter a pistol and he'll have a hard time.

ended up getting a remington 700 ADL 30-06 for my rifle. Threw on a HS Precision stock and a Wyatt DBM so really its a BDL now. Put a Leupold 4-12x40 scope on it and l love it. Shot 15 rounds and had a visible bruise on my shoulder for almost a week. Just ordered a limbsaver slip on recoil bad and a cheek riser as well.

Now I'm debating between the AR10 custom build (probably something along the lines of a 1/10" 20" barrel) vs a M14 or a Sig p226 MK25. I'll probably end up with the AR10 or the Sig. Don't need any of those as I already have the M&P 9mm the AR15 5.56 I built and the 30-06 bolt but I feel like a true battle rifle would be a great addition to have for range days.
