Did a Ephraim (Hill Farmstead), Heady Topper (Alchemist) side by side last night. Ephraim was better on the nose but I'd take Heady topper on taste.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Ohio got Yuengling yesterday, so I was able to have my first (2) draft Yuengling's at the bowling alley. I think it's much better from the draft, not only that, I think once it warms up a bit, not a lot, it tastes so much better. I probably won't buy the bottles (unless it's the black and tan) now that I can, but I could definitely see myself ordering it in a bar on draft.
An article in the columbus dispatch interviewed a local carry out owner who had a party sunday night with people camping out. He compared it to when Coors went available back in 1981(?). |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Finally had Pliney the Elder. Gotta say....I am far from impressed. What's the appeal here?

My point being, if it wasn't super fresh (even a couple months could be considered "too old"), there's your problem. Hop aroma and flavor fade so quickly at that level, its best to drink super fresh. That's the appeal of this beer, the huge hope aroma and flavor (and the dry finish, to me anyway), so if its old and lacking that, then yes the appeal suffers. :2 |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Had pours of Grreat Lakes Nosferatu and Founders Breakfast Stout with the fellas at Anthonys last nite. Looking forward to having Yuengling available. Hopefully NB will expand eventually.

Here lately, I have really come to enjoy Dos Equis & Blue Moon. I have always loved Red Stripe. There is a store here where you can make your own 6-pack out of different imports...great way to try new ones that your not sure if you will like & not have to buy the whole 6-pack. I tried close to 40 different ones from there & liked alot of them. Here is a pic of a few that were really good.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Yesterday had some Starr Hill Boxcar, a pumpkin porter. Spiced just right, and the porter character really added a "pumpkin pie crust"-like character. Good brew, not sure how widespread Starr Hill's distribution is, but pick some up if you like this style beer.

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Just recently picked up a few new to me. Had Shipyard's Smashed Pumpkin Ale the other day back-to-back with Dogfish Head's Punkin' Ale. They both succeeded pretty well in making nicely spiced pumpkin offerings. I think the Shipyard was a little better, but DFH gets a lot of credit for an aftertaste that tastes exactly like pumpkin pie.
Last night I had a DFH Palo Santo Marron. Wow, that's not a beer to underestimate. At 12% abv, it hits hard, but the alcohol wasn't too overpowering. I like it, but I'll probably keep it around as a once in a while thing. |
Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Victory Festbier (their oktoberfest). Had a couple at a local restaurant last night and will be picking up a case! If anyone lives out near the Philly area then you know about Victory Brewing Co. They make one heck of an oktoberfest brew!:chr

Re: What beers are you enjoying?
Been enjoying DFH Punkin all week and finally tried my sixer of Sam's Harvest Pumpkin. The Harvest was surprisingly good, I will be looking for more.
On a side note, tried my first Stout with dinner last night Sam Smith oatmeal stout. I guess i'm not a Stout guy, man I couldn't handle that. Shawn |

It was ok, smelled like it was going to be pretty sour. But the taste was leaning more towards a stout. Interesting to try, but don't think I would buy more. :2 |

Had a little tasting this weekend. Cigar City Big Sound - Hunahpu tasting which included all recent treatments of both beers(Bourbon, Rum, Whiskey Hunahpu & Bourbon, Rum Big Sound). Plus original versions of both beers to compare with, and an older version of bourbon treated Big Sound.
http://www.fototime.com/D202130F184FFDE/standard.jpg extras included a rum treated Jackie-O Oil Of Aphrodite. And some of Landhoney's homebrewed gueuze to finish it off. http://www.fototime.com/D2D56BFDA06BC18/standard.jpg What happens when the place where you are having the tasting closes?
