I know we won last night, but I'm starting to wonder if we are worthy of our own banter thread...

Thoughts?

Capuano pitches the first complete shutout this season for the Mets as he beat the Braves 6-0. :tu :tu

Mets win game 1 of the doubleheader against the Marlins, 2-1. RA Dickey looked really good...where the hell has he been all season?? :bh :bh

Mets take game 2 of the doubleheader 5-1...:wo :wo!!!

kelmac07 08-31-2011 05:14 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

And so the end of the modest winning streak comes to an end...we get shutout by the Marlins 6-0...Pelfrey is at it again. :td :td

Somebody...please move him to the bullpen. :bh :bh

Dave128 08-31-2011 09:36 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

That move would be way too logical.

kelmac07 09-01-2011 04:06 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets come back from being down 2-0 and win, 3-2 against the Marlins. Good things seem to happen when Pelfrey doesn't pitch. :D

And hey...we're only 22 games outta first. :bh :bh

Third place rocks!!

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Up 7-1 in the 9th...the bullpen made this one interesting. Mets prevail against the Marlins 7-5. :wo :wo Still in third place. :tu :tu

Dave128 09-02-2011 08:10 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

That was a long half inning. Even Ron Darling said "Boutista shouldn't get to comfortable with this 7-1 lead" as the top of the 9th was starting.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets take down the nats today 7-3. Closer and closer to .500. :tu :tu

kelmac07 09-03-2011 08:31 PM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

The bullpen reared its ugly head again this evening...give one away to the Nats in the bottom of the 9th...8-7. :td :td

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Last night Gee gave up a HR in Tom Milone's 1st at bat in the majors...and on the first pitch. Now, normally this wouldn't be a problem...but Milone is a pitcher. :bh :bh :bh

Mets take the Nats and the series with a 6-3 comeback win. :tu :tu

Mets not getting any closer to .500 with a 9-3 loss to the Marlins last night. :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

What a yo-yo season. Getting down to the end. I'd love to see them at or above .500 and keep third place.

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

.500 will be a successful season with this team. :tu :tu

kelmac07 09-07-2011 05:26 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Took the Mets 12 innings (thanks to Parnell blowing another save), but we beat the Marlins 7-4. :D

And Reyes takes back the batting title lead from Braun. :tu

Yep...they blew game #2, 5-1...three games under .500, but still in control of 3rd place. I want a .500 record and third place at the end of the season.

kelmac07 09-09-2011 10:01 PM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets hold on and actually win one in walk-off fashion against the Cubs, 5-4. So far, so good for my "expectations at the end of the season"...since the playoffs are out (again :bh :bh :bh).

#1: .500 record: 71-73 (still within striking distance)

#2: 3rd Place in NL East: 4 game lead over Washington

#3: NL Batting Title: Reyes leads Braun .335 to .331. (Mets have never had a batting title winner in their history)

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets come back from being down 3-0 to lead going into the 9th 4-3...only to piss it away and lose 5-4. :bh :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Selig Miffed at Mets:

One big storyline that emerged in baseball Sunday night was the Mets not being allowed to wear first responder (NYPD, FDNY, etc.) hats during the national telecast on ESPN. They did wear them in pre-game festivities but not during the actual game, per MLB rule.

It turns out, according to a report from the New York Post Tuesday, there may be more than initially met the eye. Reportedly, commissioner Bud Selig called the Mets Sunday night and was "irate" that the team threw Major League Baseball under the proverbial bus.

"[Selig] got embarrassed by it," a Mets official said (New York Post). "The game got moved into prime time because of 9/11, and [MLB] ended up getting embarrassed."

The report also notes that Joe Torre -- who was named as the person who ordered the Mets to not wear the hats -- said there was a league-wide memo sent out but nothing specifically about the Mets, nor was the message anything "heavy-handed."

And then there's this (New York Post):
But another source said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon was "back and forth" with the commissioner's office on the matter until the proverbial 11th hour, when it was decided the Mets, on the hook for a $25 million loan from MLB, shouldn't risk the wrath of Selig. So, if all this is true, the Mets basically forced their players to comply and let the commissioner's office take the blame in nefarious manner -- even though they didn't want to risk the wrath of Selig?

It's hard to know who to trust here. It seems like there's blame to be placed in both camps, but the bottom line is the players should have just been allowed to wear the special hats. It's a hat. Don't give me slippery slope on this. It's the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 in New York City. That's a special circumstance. Whether it's Wilpon, Selig, Torre or any combination of the three, someone dropped the ball.

IMHO MLB blew this one. :td :td :td

Pelfrey is at it again and Wright has made his 17th error. Falling apart at the seams comes to mind.

The beating they took on the field was NOTHING compared to the one they got in the locker room. :r

Mets respond with a 12-2 whoopin' of the Braves.

Collins leave Dickey in just a little too long...and the Mets lose to the Braves, 1-0.

Nice series win. Too little, too late. There's still hope for third place.

kelmac07 09-19-2011 02:49 PM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Hope for third place and hope to play spoiler for someone. Keeping my fingers crossed that Reyes gets hot and catches Braun for the batting title.

Dave128 09-20-2011 08:09 AM

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Reyes should be able to do it. .331 to .333 is pretty darn close. It would be nice to get at least one honor this season!

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

Mets jump out to a 4-0 lead on the Cardinals...and what does Pelfrey do? Gives it right back in the bottom of the third. PLEASE SOMEONE MOVE THIS BAFOON TO THE BULLPEN!!! :bh :bh :bh :bh :bh

Re: New York Mets 2011 Banter

I saw a Met fan buddy of mine today, and he congratulated me on my Yanks making the playoffs again. I replied that it looked likely (this was before their comeback victory today to clinch at least a wild-card), but it ain't over 'til the fat Yogi sings. He then answered by lamenting that his boys would be playing golf again shortly.

I did NOT follow by stating that they might be able to hit a ball that's sitting on a tee. :D
