Congrats, Hawks!

Hopin' the Hurricanes can beat the Devils tomorrow... that would help their cause to challenge Philly for 4th. :ss

Thanks for the congrats. The Blues have been a different team since the All-Star break. One more game left and then we'll see where they stand and who they'll play.

Detriot locked up Franzen for 11 years. I think it will be interesting what they do with Hossa, and the couple other players that are FA after the season.

Good game in Detroit today until that call at the end. Penalty yes, penalty shot no. Oh well, should make for another great game tomorrow.

After seeing the play in slow-motion, it was the wrong call. Good defensive play by Kronwall, at worst they should have given him a 2 minute minor, but I don't think any call was warranted. :2

That being said, I was very happy with the result. :r

Matchups are set. I'm disappointed the Rangers won't be playing Boston, as I would have been able to get tickets to the games, but I think the Boston/Montreal series will be better.

Also, if the Rangers are able to contain Ovechkin (yea right) and exploit a shaky Theodore, we'll face Boston in the second round. I'm really hoping Lundqvist stays hot as the Rangers are not built to run and gun like Washington is, and won't survive in high scoring games.

Re: NHL '08- '09 Thread

I wanted the Bruins to play the Rangers because I wanted to see Avery take a stick across the face. He reminds me of a sneakier and nastier version of Ken 'the rat' Linsman. Hate having to clear a 3.5 hour block to watch vs the Canadiens since the games will be chippy with plenty of fights and cheap shots. It will be worth it if the Canadiens go home crying.:D

Congrats going out to Tom and his Blackhawks. Solid win against the Redwings.:tu
Next up, Blues and Avalanche. This game is huge!! A win will put them in 6th and a loss will find them in the 8th slot. I'd much rather play Vancouver in the first round than San Jose.
I'm just sayin'. :D

Well Detroit finish's the year with 2 straight loses to the 'Hawks. That will make the Admiral happy. Especially seeing as he was at the game today.

Looks like the Wings will play either The Ducks or Blue Jackets depending on what St. Loius does today.

If I was the blues, I would rather play the sharks. Right now, they aren't playing too well, and are having problems scoring. Maybe they have been flat the second half of the season because they were assured a playoff spot, and will come on strong in the playoffs. I sure hope so, as they have no good excuse not to make it to the 3rd round. Luongo is playing exceptional right now, and may eventually have a cold streak, but I wouldn't want to be the team to find out.

Blues just clenched the 6th spot with a win over the Aves'. If you told me this would of happened in January I would of called you crazy. Blues were 15th place in Feb. It's been a crazy ride.
It's been an exciting second half of the season and I can't wait for Playoffs to start. Good luck to all my Hockey Fools out there!! :tu

Congrats to the Blues on 6th place...I have to agree with Tony, I would rather play the Sharks right now than the Canucks, Sharks have been flat and Luongo looks tough. The Blues have been the best team in the NHL the last month though, so you never know.

Fun Hawks game today....got a call this morning and upgraded to Rocky Wirtz's seats, a few rows off the ice. I briefly met Rocky and simply shook his hand and thanked him for bringing hockey back to Chicago.

As much as I'm disapointed that we could not follow thru on our wager... Go 'Canes...

Being from Philly... The devils are not one of my favorites.:fu Good Luck... maybe in a later round.

Thanks Jim, it was a good time. Not a ton of hitting, no one wants to get hurt in a "meaningless" game one game before the playoffs, but a win is a win.

Might be the last time I see Chris Chelios play...I hope not. The fans booed him everytime he touched the puck, which is complete BS since he carried this franchise on his back for almost 10 seasons.

Hoping the Sharks/Ducks series will be a good one. Maybe the Ducks won't play as dirty as they normally do?

Can't wait for the Boston series as well. These two series are the ones that I know will not need any time to get heated up. Don't know enough about the rest of the east to comment any more though. Philly and Pit have a good rivalry?

My 8 year old son is a huge fan. Next to the Blues, the Devils are his favorite team.
Quick story:
My son only has one reason for loving the Devils. He talks about the 2000 Stanley Cup Champions as if he was in the arena that night. The fact is, he was in my arms that night, in a hospital room while his Ma slept off 22 hours of labor. It was an awesome evening. I had no dog in the fight, but have loved hockey since I'm 4 years old. I spoke to him as if he undersood, explaining the rules and who was doing what during the game. He was just staring at the hospital TV smiling throughout the game.
So, I have, what appears to be a lifelong Devils fan for one reason and one reason only....he was born June 10th, the year the Devils beat the Stars, 2-1 in the 2nd OT of game 6.
He talks as if he was consciously aware, of what happend to be his first televison experience.
If you ever feel like a lonley Devils fan, know that you have an 8-year-old, Squirt hockey player living in Missouri named Nico. :tu

Not optimistic about this. Given the last game between these two and the riot that occurred at the end. This is the one team I didnt want the sharks to see in the first round. Pronger is going to go Pronger on someone and Perry well he took lessons from Pronger apparently. I am really hoping the refs dont put the whistles in their pockets. I am thinking the league will be on top of them. The refs who did their last regular season game let that get away from them in a hurry.

One things for sure I doubt who ever wins will go much further as this one will be a violent series. Hell even the guys on the nhl channel on XM radio were saying this was going to be an ugly series.

Oh, I completely agree with Pronger/Perry. It appears he found his protege... I hate Pronger, likes to start stuff, but NEVER finishes what he starts. Refs always tend to loose the whistle at the end of the season, and then it never makes it to the rink for playoffs.

Sharks seem to always get a really physical team the first round, and then get banged up, definitely not what they needed with all the injuries they had late. We will see if this is the year they respond correctly to the physicality, and the much closer checked games. Thornton is going to have to learn to deal with it, and to shoot the damn puck. Guy has an amazing shot, and you wouldn't even know it. Would also be nice if Cheecho could do something productive.

:D Okay... I see how its gonna be.

When I thought the Hurricanes were facing the Flyers, I had a little wager, but that fell through.

Care to pick up the slack, smokey? How about a fiver on the Devils/'Canes Series? No need to go crazy... just five good sticks.

Let me know... sometime before the Devils go up three to none on the Hurricanes! :r

You all got it bad over there. I remember last season I heard Sherry Ross for the first time. I was not impressed. I cant remember what she said, but it was a WTF? moment. The booth went silent. It appeared even the play by play guy was at a loss for words. She appears to be geting better of the brodcasts I heard this year, but it still seems strained at time.

Well the Wings get to play Colombus in the first round. Hopefully the end of the season was not an indicator of how are series is going to be. Could be a tough series if they don't play better than they have. Will see Thursday.

Congrats to your "Hawks Tom. Wish them success in the playoffs unless it's against the Wings of course!;)

Thanks James....you know I am rooting for the Wings with the same disclaimer. I don't think the Jackets have the firepower, I would say the best chance among the 8 series for a sweep.
