Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

The suspension seemed kind of light to me too. Hope he doesn't have to take it during the Reds series. Otherwise, the appeal would look like a bad idea.

Wacha again tonight. Hope the kid does alright.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

On right now, he is doing ok. And we really need Yaddi for the Reds, that's for sure!

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

A quick plug for Matt Carpenter, he is a beast! A vacuume on defense and he takes all his at bats so deep to swing the appearance to his favor.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Matt's a gem ... Wacha tonight, not so much. His next game will tell us a lot.

Long game, great bullpen work, crummy outcome. All those innings from the bullpen have put us in a bind since they were thinking about startring Joe Kelly tonight.

688sonarmen 06-05-2013 06:52 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

You are right, it could be a good thing if he pulls out a gem next game. But it is his test, the kid has never had to overcome anything so far.

Man, I really like Joe Kelly for the work he put in last year. Not sure what happened but I hope he is just a better starter than reliever. Cards should have actually lost the game in 9 from the 3rd base upms blown call, either way Cards NEVER seem to win in extra innings. I'm not having a good feeling about the momentum right now, and the fact that the Reds are next.

I almost fogot about Matt. C getting hit 3 times last night, lol!

688sonarmen 06-06-2013 05:19 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Well that's the Cards I remember from 2011! Holliday error, several double plays and shoddy defense, lol! "Wild Thing" Kelly pitched well and battled with risp. Seems like the Cards and Reds destiny is tied with their loss last night.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

HR derby tonight! Even a blast by Shelby Miller!

Glad there were only 9 innings ... the D'Backs just kept chipping away ... they're pretty good team. Speaking about pretty good teams ... the Reds are next.

I was thinking the same thing. Actually at first I was thinking why are they wasting Mohica warming up with such a huge lead, then I got more respect for Mathney. The Dbacks right fielder, forget his name but he is the Jay for their team, what a beast!

I would love love love to attend the game in Cinci, its going to be NUTS!

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Off to a good start in Cinci. We'll see how the rookie does tonight against their lineup.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

All I can say is 2 outs, 2 outs, 2 outs! And all the hitting streaks.

I'm worried once again that I'll be blacked out and a Nationals game will be on since Fox is covering it. If so ill be listing old school to the radio feed.

688sonarmen 06-09-2013 07:14 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Latos is a beast as usual. It was a close game until Lyons started coming apart and the BP did not help much with of all things their fielding. How about the last out?

Ah well, rubber match today and I'm thinking the Cards have it.

Yup ... it was one of those piranha innings, complete with a grand slam.

I AM getting old ... was sound asleep when the bats finally woke up. Guess I'm glad they aren't playing on the west coast ... would have probably missed the entire game.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

That was the best game of the year, lead changes, errors, questionable calls, clutch hitting, amazing late inning pitching, and a Win!

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Wacha has a lot to prove this outing. I'm defiantly not counting out the Mets, any team that sweeps the Yankeeys then gets swept by the Marlins is dangerous and should not be issued a gun, :D

With Westbrook due to return ... Wacha has to know that he's on the bubble. Time to buckle down rookie and show them what you have ... otherwise ... the next stop will be the bullpen or Memphis BBQ. I'm rooting for you.

The comment on the Mets is classic.

qwerty1500 06-12-2013 05:45 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Well ... the rookie did okay once he settled down after the first inning ... not dominate ... but okay ... still walked too many batters. The first inning and all the walks really ran up his pitch count.

Here's my question for the morning. Who do you move from the rotation, Lyons or Wacha?

I'm not sure that Westbrook will be back to stay.

Lyons is the only left-hander in the rotation.

Mozeliak was dropping all kinds of hints about Wacha needing to stay at AAA to work on his curve ball. Do you bring that kind of talent up for three games just to send him back to work on his curve ball? They knew that when they brought him up.

688sonarmen 06-13-2013 05:56 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Wacha did work through it, but I would still send him down since he seems to be being groomed to be a starter and I think he needs a full season in the minors. As for the lefty I would say Boggs, Zepchinsky (Scrabble) Lol, and Marte would make excellent trade fodder for a decent lefty from on of the sub .400 clubs.

Gee pitched well last night and had the Cards guessing wrong all night. To bad about Miller, he had some good stuff but a rough 1st and got caught on a few fastballs. Rubber match in a few hrs!

100% agree with you about Westbrook.

Wow ... love a good pitching duel. Two really good pitchers ... Cy Young candidates really ... amazing defense and key hits ... all down to the last out ... what more can you want?

Westbrook tonight. We'll see if he's healthy.

Btw, have good tickets for the Cubbies game next Tuesday.

qwerty1500 06-16-2013 02:37 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

What happened to our starting pitching? Thought Westbrook might still have some physical problems ... not so sure after watching what they did to Lynn.

Heard that Mozeliak sent Wacha down because he wasn't able to locate his fast ball and that made his change-up a lot less effective. I guess we will see if Lyons can solve the problem with the Miami lineup.

688sonarmen 06-16-2013 06:12 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Lynn had a sort of implosion late last year. I think also he is putting weight back on. I'm not sure what it all means but maybe he has the game endurance to be a starter but not the season endurance.

Had to happen some time, fitting it was against Miami.

Yep, totally agree.

If that's how they are going to play in the heat and humidity, it's going to be a long summer in St. Louis.

qwerty1500 06-18-2013 09:35 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Got to watch that awful game in person.

Wanno had a disasterous first inning. Our line-up didn't seem to be trying to work the count and kept their starter in the game ... who looked like Cy Young for the 8 innings I saw. Freese with two dp's killed the only rally hopes until the 9th inning. Plus, we had to sit next to two cub fans ...

Can't say I enjoyed it much.

But ... trying to find something good to say ... it was a beautiful night to be at Busch.

688sonarmen 06-19-2013 05:50 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

It did look nice on tv. I came in before the last out in the bottom of the 1st and had to rub my eyes. That S 13 guy for the Cubs was pitching pretty good though. Hey at least the 9th showed some promise. I feel for you though, the next ge I'm going to is July 7th vs Miami, going to be really pissed if the Cards lose.

qwerty1500 06-19-2013 10:17 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

At Busch again tonight. Great seats ... row 14 between home and the cubies dugout. Perfect spot to watch Westbrook. Was a little concerned after his last outing but he looked solid ... everything seemed to be working.

Some sloppy play on defense. Not a lot of offense ... but enough. Hoping Holliday is coming out of his slump ... that boy is streaky.

Overall, enjoyed this one much more than last night. Negatives? We're hitting into too many double plays. And, Busch is starting to warm up ... mid 80's all night and not much of breeze.

688sonarmen 06-20-2013 05:50 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

It was good to see Westbrook get a W. there should have been more double plays but the Cubs defense like the Cards was a little sloppy. I was really surprised to see M Carpenters. Also Yaddi has not been himself on defense lately. But a W is a W!

qwerty1500 06-21-2013 06:39 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Is it possible that Lynn "un-imploded?" I didn't see any of this game ... had to work ... but listened to the 8th and 9th innings on the way home. From the box score and what I've heard, it sounds like Lynn had his game going. However, only 6 innings and 90+ pitches ... 3 hits, 6 strike-outs and only 2 walks ... sounds like he had to work for every out.

Holliday was 2 for 4 with a HR ... slump seems gone ... for now.

Still a little concerned about the DP's. Hit into 2 and one was a rally killer.

Tonight, they're matching up Lyons against the Rangers. Hope that works out ...

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Lynn was pitching vs the Cubs, lol! Maybe he just was a little uneasy for a few games. Not sure how the Rangers are doing this year but it should be interesting!

Well ... wasn't his "implosion" against the Marlins ... an even worse record that our beloved cubbies?

Rangers are a pretty good club again, as we saw last night. Why do we have so much trouble with left-handers every single year?

I'm about ready to throw in the towel on Mr Lyons. Shelby tonight.

So what's this story about Matt Holliday hitting a dinger with his dong out? I thought you could only be swinging ONE bat atta time! :r

Looks like they did send Lyons back down. Kelly proved last year he could start and has had limited innings this year to build up stamina, why not get him going and stop bringing young guys up from the minors.

I have no clue about the Matt Holliday dong, lol!

Go Cards and Go Miller!

Kelly was good last year/night ... why not?

Matt? Remember Jeffery "one-flap down" Leonard's home run trot ... sort of the same deal.

Rain delay ... they will get it in.

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

We need Wainwright to be the stopper tonight. You would think that our offense might have a chance against their rookie (9.00+ ERA in his last 3 games) ... but who knows ... they seem to be on vacation this weekend.

688sonarmen 06-23-2013 04:22 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Missed the game, and missing the offense the Cards had just a few series ago!

688sonarmen 06-24-2013 02:27 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Swept and there is drama going on between Wainwright and Mathney.

qwerty1500 06-24-2013 08:31 PM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Drama? Unless I missed something, Wanno was upset that Matheny pulled him after 105 pitches. Good for both of them. Wanno is a gamer and he should be upset. Matheny knows this is a long season and doesn't want to risk Wanno.

I think everyone is just a little upset about the sweep. Pull him or don't pull him, it's hard to win when you only score one run. That worries me more than this drama.

I've also been worried about the number of times the Cards hit into DPs. Saw an interesting statistic about that. The Cards lead the NL in hitting into DPs ... 76 in their first 76 games.

Maybe we can get back on track against Houston?

688sonarmen 06-25-2013 08:02 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

The amount of DPs reminds me of the 2011 season. With one exception, this year the Cards went from being a leader turning DPs to leading hitting into them. It's hard to pull 2 out rally's when that is going on.

I can understand Wainwright being upset but he is a "leader" on the team now. No place to bash his manager because he did not agree with being pulled. I'm betting we lose 2 out of 3 against The Astros and that will get their minds back into winning.

qwerty1500 06-26-2013 05:07 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

We could have used a couple of those runs last weekend.

Westbrook had a sort of meltdown after only 84 pitches ... out of gas or arm trouble again?

Mujica looked kind of rusty in the 9th.

688sonarmen 06-26-2013 05:49 AM

Re: St Louis Cardinals Fans Sound Off!

Good thing there was about a 7 run differential , Jake did run out of gas later on. Mohica has given up a few runs as of late in non save situations. Hopefully I will be eating my words about dropping 2 out of 3.
