View Full Version : Leave it to me to break another Apple device

OK,
I have only had the darn thing two days (iPhone).
Already, my photos and my music will not rotate when I rotate the phone from vertical to horizontal and visa versa.
I have noticed that happen at least three times now.
Anyone else with this?
I have installed the new update.
Any other similar woes I should know of so I don't go back to the store to return it as I did two MacBooks before landing on number three?:r:r:r
Pete (replicant argent), if you are reading this, and getting ready to make a wise butt remark about Apple and me, here goes in advance: :fu

Hopefully there's a quick fix for it, but I'd would return it. Apple's good about these things. There's nothing worse than buying a new toy and having it act up. I kinda feel ripped off when that happens.

I am going to head to the store when they open at 10.
Anyone know a quick way to remove all this personal stuff from the phone?
Is there a master reset?

Now it is working again, all on its own, without me doing anything to it.
Something is definitely weird but seems this will be like that car you bring to the mechanic and doesn't act up while you are there.

Seems it took this time.
Waiting on updates now.
Let's see if that fixes it.
Seems that is Apple's way around all issues. MASTER RESET!!!

Master reset done.
Phone set up again as if new.
Luckily, all my stuff that I downloaded (apps) were in my MacBook, in spite of asking to set up as new phone.
Let's see if it is fixed or if off to the store I go.

I haven't noticed this problem with mine, but it can get buggy sometimes. That could be cause mine is jailbroken and I'm running a lot of "non official" apps on it. For the most part though, it operates great. When it gets a little weird I just give it a reboot.
Perhaps the touchscreen is going up on yours, if it keeps up take it in and see what they say. This thing is too damn expensive to put up with that crap.

Ha!!!
Problem solved.
What consoles me is I know I am not the only one that went through this issue.
Found a couple of threads on this in the Mac Forum but had no solutions.
Went to the Best Buy store and waited for them to open.
There is a guy sitting there, that doesn't even work with phones.
Thought he did when I got there so I started talking to him and he patiently listened.
Seems the phone didn't work and suddenly, it worked again.
Well, what a dumb answer to all this.
Whenever I went horizontal, with the phone sort of flat, it doesn't work.
It is designed to work when at an ANGLE!!!
So, the guy quickly fixed the problem and off I went, into the sunset.:D
Oh what a goose I am.

Leave it to you Carlos haha.
I really don't know how you do it. My first ever ipod (20 GB from probably 3 generations ago) still works and that thing has been dropped, scraped, slammed, and anything else you can imagine. current ipod touch, macbook, and imac have never had a problem. You just have a green thumb for breaking apple stuff.

No. I've been using Apple products since 1986 and have never had the type of problems Carlos seems to have. The only time I've had one of the Mac computers die on me was back in the OS9 days and when I opened it I found that one of the worker bees spilled a coke on it.

you would know because you would have a xxx.xxxx@me.com email address.
It allows you to sync contacts, calendar, email, pictures, video across macbook, iphone, itouch automatically.... change any one of those on iphone or macbook and it syncs the next time the other device is turned on (or if you set it to sync @ certain time frame)

Jim,
I know I have it because I received information on it advising me.
I originally set up a mac.com email address when I bought my computer.
I paid like $89 for the package.
I think it is one and the same.
I have noticed that is I have my laptop open to my email accounts, I access either my bellsouth.net or my mac.com email accounts and work them off my iPhone, any changes seem to immediately sync with my laptop. If I delete an email in my iPhone, it immediately disappears from the laptop also.
I would guess I therefore have it?
Blueface
01-30-2009, 06:21 AM
Jim,
Just noticed.
When I select my mac.com email account, it says "mobile me" at the bottom.
When I select my bellsouth.net, it doesn't.
Yet, they both interact with my laptop.
King James

.mac is sort of like the old version of mobileme. If you use the Mail application on your macbook (stamp icon) then it should sync regardless so hard to tell if you have all the features of mobileme. If you have it, then definitely set it up (you have to do it on both your macbook and iphone but is sort of hard to type up and explain if you aren't sure how to do it). You would see a cloud icon somewhere that said "mobileme"
If you need/want help I can try to help figure it out on the phone, just shoot me a PM
EDIT: are you sure it is activated on both iphone and macbook? You should get a prompt when it syncs and any pictures you take on your phone would come into iphoto and contacts/calendar stuff would sync as well.

What I bought a year ago is "iDisk".
When you index that in Apple's website, you get "MobileMe".
I recall the email being about a change in name.
I must have it, just need to finish setting it up I guess?
Will call Apple at 10.

When I did that on my iphone, it says "The MobileMe account is already configured.
I think it is due to my mac.com email address.
The www.me.com is where I was just at viewing my current emails, just the same as they are on my iphone and macbook.
Just noticed that if I select a photo on my iphoto and go to share, it allows the option of "mobileme".
I think it is all set as is. I just don't use it to back up or rely on it as didn't know it well enough.

Boy do I now know I have MobileMe for sure.
When I first tried to access it via Apple.com, I didn't remember the password.
I didn't consider it to be the same as my "mail" one. Don't know why. That is just me.
When I got on MobileMe, I had to change it as I had to ask as forgot.
When I changed it, I made it different than my mac.com one.
Well, that messed things up and could no longer address emails in my iPhone.
Went back to mobile me and made it the same as my mac.com email account and all is back to normal.

Interesting thing is that MobileMe allows me to upload photos that folks can access and view.
