Okay, I am not usually a dark liquor drinker unless it is a good dark rum or tequila. I have had bad experiences with Jack Daniels and some bourbons. I tried a blended scotch once and was not a fan. Really other than Crown Royal and it's various offerings, I have not found a dark liquor I cared for. Well a good friend that is Irish had me try some regular Jamesons and I like it a lot. It is not too harsh and has a bit of mellow sweetness on the aftertaste. So now I am interested in learning a bit more about Irish Whiskey. I have already gotten some recommendations from the aforementioned Irish Friend about Bushmills 1608 and Bushmills 21 but I may wait a little bit on that. A bartender friend told me that Powers (I think that is what I was told) tasted a lot like Jameys for less money. Anyway, just help if you can. As for drinking it, it is only going to be consumed neat. Thanks,

Try some Tullamore's Dew. Its right up there with Jameson and Bushmills. I've had Powers, but I thought Jameson was smoother! :tu
There's also another one called Connemara Irish Whiskey that I've had my eye on, but haven't picked up a bottle yet!

Hmmm, Patrick. I have seen Tullamore's and have also been told that Black Bush is also good. Maybe we can have a glass together next week one afternoon with a cigar....HINT, HINT.

I prefer Black Bush to the regular Bushmills.
Bushmills also makes a single malt.
Also, you should try Knappogue Castle single malt.

I had some Jameson 12 tonight and it had a bit more spice than regular Jameson. I guess I like the spice but the sweetness is what is most attractive to me right now. Any recommendations for sweeter Irish Whiskey's would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

I have a friend who is a whiskey drinker and he is all about Jameson. He say's that they have the extra filtration which makes it a smoother taste. Personally I never was able to get a taste for it. I will take a Capt & Coke any day though.

I got a bottle of this for Christmas...it is very good whiskey. I think I prefer a good Pappy Van Winkle Kentucky Bourbon to the Irish.

I have had experience with Powers. It definitely is a budget friendly alternative and has a pretty nice smoothness and taste. However; I do not recommend taking on a bottle yourself as you will likely wind up sleeping on a floor somewhere. I am still trying to figure out where half of those bruises came from....

Knappogue Castle single malt is excellent as is the Connemara Irish wiskey. The Connermara is very peaty while the Knappoque is smooth.
I am a big fan of Red Breast.
None better in my opinion.
Just tastes so damn good.
Neat of course.

Bushmill 12yo is excellent!
Redbreast 12yo is even better!!
Jameson 18yo is the best of all - Outstanding!!!
IMHO, these are the very best, of all the whiskey's, that the Irish have to offer!!!

I love Jameson's, but it gives me a headache, even in reasonable amounts. So I go with Tullamore or Powers when I feel the Old Sod calling. Redbreast is nice if my wallet is fat and happy.

Jameson's gives me a headache too. Especially in reasonable amounts. It just must not match my physique.
I have found that Tyrconnell is a very smooth single malt that tastes pretty good on the rocks.

I am really digging all I have tried with Knappogue being my least favorite. I look forward to trying Connemara and Tyrconnell after trying Red Breast next. Good on you, Patrick.
