My Cigar Box Coolidor.

Ok most of you know I am new to this and I just wanted to show off the finished project, if you would even call it that. I would just say it's my first long term storage device for cigars. I am humbled to be here please... Don't **** me up :r

As you can tell I used a spare container to make a little self and it's pretty stable. Now lets hope I didn't over hydrate my beads!:D I was excited... It was at 64 because I haven't even had it there an hour and had to take it out and dry it a little so the humidity dropped. Hasn't even been in there 6 hours yet and I keep opening it so I know it will most likely go BACK up after I got it down lol.

64-66 Is My Preferred Humidity. Most Of Us Like To Keep The RH Below 70. I Have Several Coolidors; I Feel They Are Best For Long Term Storage.:tu

Looks good to me. Like Greg, I try to keep my humidity around 65%.

You might want to consider a second coolidor for the non-infused cigars. If you leave them all in the cooler together, they will eventually pick up the flavors from the infused cigars.

Yeah, it can take a bit to get things dialed in and the percentage RH to your desired level. I generally like my Nicaraguans at 71.23% +/-1%. I find generally the draw isn’t impacted and the flavor improves however you will get wonky burns, e.g. keep the lighter handy for corrections. If burn consistency is a priority to you, and to many it’s a big deal as Cigar burn maintenance is annoying, then 68.12% +/- 0.75% is great.

What did we ever do before digital hygrometers. We had to look at a gauge that was +/- 5% accuracy and do salt calibrations is what we did! You have not fully embraced Cigar humidity if you have not salt calibrated your hygrometer IMHO.

After I took the over saturated beads out and put some in that weren't wet at all, it seems to leveled out at 71. Oh the temp is always great too, 70.

Just know you will have some fluctuation as things stabilize. All depends on how dry/wet your cigars are and any boxes they may be stored in. Don't fret it.

Yea I figured that. The cigars were wetter then normal I guess because I took them from freezer to storage after only letting them sit out for two hours.

It is NOT because they only sat for ..... they are (usually) shipped at a high humidity .

Don’t add water to yer beads ever ... I use a small block of florists foam (about the size of a bar of soap) to add humidity to my coolers(beads) ... and (once again) NEVER wet the beads .

In regards your hygrometer ... don’t calibrate just find an RH that works for you and go with that ... doesn’t matter if it’s 62 or 65 as long as they smoke good .

Yea I am figuring that out about beads now. It seems all I had to do was raise the RH then put the dry beads in and they lowered it to 70 easily. I am drying out the soaked beads now. Do you leave the beads in there with the foam or do you let the foam sit in there for a while then put the beads in to lower the RH?

Don’t listen to the nay sayers, chemistry works and hell with hygrometer quality assurance. Salt, distilled water, sealed container, and a tenth of a percent adjustment of the Relative Humidity. Relative to what? Hmmmmm, best eliminate doubt.

You are young into this obsession and if you don’t want to get to where your salt calibrating 0.1% digital hygrometers and fine tuning Cigar fridges while playing cigar box Tetris, then I recommend you avoid the Devil Site. It starts slow. You convince yourself your saving money. Then you convince yourself this deal won’t come around again. Soon, your buying more storage for all the good deals. Then finally your salt calibrating digital hygrometers.

LMFAO I guess you envision a younger you hey? LOL Yea, my wife just had to tell me "don't think you're getting anymore cigars any time soon" at 1:45 in the morning because I have no one else to talk to about cigars besides you guys. I told her "No I won't buy anymore boxes, just the 5 packs".... :r I'm ALWAYS obsessive compulsive about anything I do and she thinks I'm going to throw this hobby away. I told her "what other hobby that I don't still do every day have I stopped" she stayed quite. I think she was talking about vaping, I used vaping as a catalyst to stop smoking cigarettes and quit it, started to taste the same.

As I sit here, smoking my third cigar of the day (I should say first) I am contemplating the road I'm going down and all I see is glory, good times and relaxation. I fell in love with cigars and I don't plan on turning back now.

I don't think my wife understands how long cigars can live lol. This is more addicting for me then cigarettes, weed, vaping or ANYTHING else I have ever done.
