Seriously you guys? I know we all have our favorites, but let's try to make some serious predictions.

I think the Steelers are going in hot right now. I think the easily beat the Dolphins, they are ashamed of the earlier game. They go into Arrowhead and beat the Chiefs a second time. And of course, they face off against the Patriots. I have a feeling they come out on top.

As for the Packers, yes, I am a Packers fan, but...
Ely has come into Green Bay and done it before, this time I think that GB says, "Not in our house!" I see the Lions beating Seattle because they are more hungry. The Cowboys beat the Lions, Atlanta cannot overcome Rodgers. And in Dallas, experience beats the rookies.

This is the recipe for why I believe it is Steelers/Packers in Super Bowl.

I've got my Steeler vs. anyone.
They have a long road between here and the dance, though.
They're healthy. That's big.
If they stay healthy and can get through NE without getting their secondary completely disassembled, I don't think they'll have trouble with anyone they meet in the Super Bowl.
I'd like for it to be Green Bay because they're always an injury or two away from it being curtains.

It's just tough for me to see yet, Todd.
After this week's games and getting a look at the play, let's revisit this.
I think all 4 home teams are going to take the wins, New York and Green Bay being the best game.
Pittsburgh and Miami being the most frustrating. :D

Not in our house, Todd? Seriously? Seems to me the last two playoff head-to-heads at Lambeau went to Big Blue, not Green-and-Gold. That means nothing tomorrow, but nothing either way. Don't be surprised if the Giants win, then fly back home to celebrate off the NJ Turnpike at the Vince Lombardi Service Area. :r

I know the history, that's why I think that they are going in with a new attitude of "not-this-time". I must admit, that of all the teams we could have faced, this one worries me the most (as a Packer fan).

By the way, I am not picking the Packers because I want to Packers to be the team, it is a calculated guess based upon what I see as the teams in the play-offs.

Hey, I get that. The whole point of this exercise is to make a prediction here and see where it will fall out in the end. That's the fun of it!

Yeah, as he had his fingers buried in the facemask of the defender, yanking his head around. :)

shilala
01-07-2017, 08:49 PM
When I watch the progression of the play, the facemask is defensive reaction.
As in the only opportunity for Richardson to make the play after being totally molested.
There's no way, at full speed, he could have had any idea what he did.
Nor did anyone else in the stadium or in New York. In real time it was so fast it was nothing.
It took a whole period for the talking heads to discover it and make a point of it.

Good penalty to take right there for Detroit, because the defense was clearly beat for an easy td.
At least they'd have had chance to stop the score.

I liked the no call there, and I don't have a dog in the fight.
My thinking that the first penalty caused the second one, and it was inadvertant.

There's 7:30 left in the 4th and Detroit has been in this till just a few minutes ago.
No matter how we slice it, Detroit made a quality showing against a juggernaut.
I'd like to see a garbage td just so the record books show 19-13.
Detroit had a solid season and solid playoff game to build on.
I stand impressed, Rev. :tu

Was just stirring the pot. I think it was a good "no call" as well.

I am impressed with how Seattle played tonight. I really did expect the Lions to do better. Although, as you say, they were in it all the way. The score is not indicative of the closeness of the game.

I like to do the predictions for fun with friends, but do not bet.

OK, let me say it this way, I do not go out and place bets for money. I may challenge a friend for dinner rights over a game, I may even put a 5er on the line with a pool somewhere, but I do not place bets per se.

I'd have to change my predictions on the NFC side, but I agree with the Steeler and Patriots. I also agree with the Packers. But I think the Falcons will beat the Seahawks.

Cheating a little bit after seeing the games but I am going to say this year it is ....

New England 24 - Seattle 13

Kills me to say this as a Raiders fan but I don't think Atlanta has the enough offense to overcome its defense and I don't think the Chiefs have enough offense to keep their defense off the field. Cowboys have rookies and the Steelers are going to have to show 100% and stay healthy to have an outside shot. Giants don't have a running game and Houston doesn't have a quarterback.

Hah, I experienced epic fail. So onto more predictions that may fail.

Patriots over Steelers unless the Steelers can figure out how to get more then a string of field goals. This being said, Steelers kicker for my Fantasy team next year or Mason Crosby which I have had before because he is just that good.

Now the GB vs Falcons I predict to be the game of the weekend. IF you can only watch one game, this is it. I will quote Breacher report to give credit where credit is due, "In terms of what makes for great television, this matchup could knock it out of the park. Both teams had passing offenses ranked in the top 10 in the regular season, but their pass defenses both finished in the bottom five in the NFL.

That has all the makings of a shootout if we've ever seen one. ". (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2687262-nfl-playoff-bracket-2017-afc-nfc-championship-picture-odds-and-predictions)

Their D looked like it was an exhibition game.

I gotta follow my heart with Pittsburgh and Green Bay this week.
Two of the all-time greatest and my two favorite clubs (plus my bandwagon Denver fetish).
I see the Steelers out-gutsing the Pack in the Show, though.
It'd be an incredible matchup.
If it ends up Atlanta and NE, I won't have to worry about watching the game, at least. :D
The Steelers over NE is blind faith. I want to see that game so bad it hurts.
I don't think Tomlin has half the brains of Belichick, but I do think the whole coaching staff can put together a Belichick beater.
We gotta outdistance them in the first half, or Bill will dissect our club into oblivion the second half.
We'll need to bring two games so he can't make the second half adjustments that are the success of the Pats.

Hi Scott, the thing that people keep forgetting about Belichick is that he learned football at his father's knee when he was coaching at Annapolis. As a matter of fact, his father is the ONLY civilian ever to be buried at Annapolis. Bill coaches football like it's war; he's going to have way more games than just two and he can pivot on a dime. Also, why do you think he never says anything at press conferences? Because "Loose lips sink ships." He has lots of different looks for anything he wants to do, not unlike how Eisenhower had Patton "command" a fake army opposite Calais prior to the Normandy invasion to draw off the German Panzer units from the real landing sites. Most football coaches and players are emotionally undisciplined; they get fired-up too easily and that speeds up the game for them. That causes them to react instead of think. Bill plays a thinking game while everybody else plays an emotional game and that's where he gets 'em. On the bright side, I could be wrong; I've been wrong before. :) Good luck, my friend!

Darren, my dad reminds me of this every year, how we are spoiled now.
He grew up when the pats were awful, I was 25 when they won their first Superbowl, so this has been a great run to watch!

Wow! I did not get either one of these last ones right!

So, who will do it now?

I want the Falcons to do it, but I have no confidence.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

My son was born in '93 and believes it his birthright that the Pats will contend at a high level every year. I try to tell him that this run is unparalleled in the history of professional football. No one has ever put together something like this over such long period of time: 16 years, 14 playoff appearances, 11 Conference Championship games, 7 Super Bowl appearances and victories in five of them. It's mind boggling.

At some point, the worm will turn and New England fans will look back on this era with awe and longing much as I suspect 49er fans look back on the mid 80's & early 90's. It will be fans like my son who will be ill equipped to deal with it because they don't know the pain. They don't respect the current winning streak because it's all they've ever known.

As a Bills fan living in New England, I will enjoy that immensely.

It's like the Red Sox pink haters, of course the Pats streak is much longer and more impressive, but the Sox going from nothing to a couple of World Series sweeps in a very short time spoiled a lot of younger fans. I remember the old line "The Sawx killed my grandfather and now their coming for me!"

At least the Sox are usually in the mix these days. I still don't know how the hell we're gonna replace Papi. I mean, I know he's irreplaceable but I was hoping we'd get Encarnacion, at least. We need a Catcher with a stick, too.

Fixed it .. the Lions were never that good. :lr

I will say this, while it was an amazing comeback it was not the greatest game ever as people are saying, it was a freaking blowout and a mismatch for the entire first half, I heard on the radio that the Fox execs where shitting themselves it was so bad, it was so bad that Marky Mark and his family left (only to later blame his kids.. not that it was a train wreck of a first half).

It's like The Usual Suspects, not an amazing movie, it was ok, but it had a great ending, so people tend to say it was a great movie, it really wasn't, passable yes, great no.
