I have a drawer full of estates in various states of disrepair. There were a couple of Dunhills I had stripped down about a year ago and got bored with them.

Anyway - did more cleanup and a little buffing....

The small one is a 1951 billiard and the big guy a patent era with illegible stamping. Both were is quite poor condidtion. I think they are a more acceptable standard for an enthusiast (rather than collector...)

Next up is a Stanwell. Quite revolting - thick cake I had to drill out in the workshop. Then reamed almost to the briar. Currently under salt. Sanded out the chomper marks - elbow grease and grades of paper....

Wow that is impressive. What does the salt do for the bowl?

A mix of kosher salt and vodka - draws out the smelly brown gunk that makes them ghost. Or at least so the legend goes......

Next up a Kaywoodie "custom grain" - this one was really in bad condition. Looking better after a bit of effort....

To me it's weird to see a well made Danish pipe have the crap beaten out of it by the previous owner. Seems he enjoyed beating the rim on hard objects to empty the bowl- heck of a job to sand back to smooth briar.

Seems happier now, although still a bit charred.

Poor thing....

Hell of a metamorphosis! From something that looked rode hard and put up wet to the new finished product.

You do some great work. I have done a few but I am an amateur for sure. I don't have a buffing wheel but I may get one. I do everything by hand using Decaturs products.

A local jeweller sold me an old one he had lying about. It was about $50 CAD.
Worth every penny.

You can also bench mount an electric drill - a mate of mine does that with great success.
