So. I picked up a 3d printer on amazon and I have to say, this thing is fun and cool to play with. Right now I am in the middle of about a 50 hour print of a star wars blaster.

That is super cool!

I've been thinking about getting a 3D printer for a while now but really can't come up with any decent excuses for having one--except for the coolness factor, of course.

with all the star wars stuff that i and some of my friends do, it will be worth it to me.

that blaster will cost me all of $40 in filament and then time and spray paint. A real one bought from a supplier would cost me $600.

My gal just started working with Stratasys, a 3D printer manufacturer. The stuff the higher end machines can do is amazing. Commerical applications are pretty apparent. The challenge is the home user market, and hobbyists such as yourself would seem to be the most likely target, at least for now.

Have fun with it!

I'm in the same boat, they have some cool ones that even do 3D scanning of times so you can replicate them, but I just can't justify it, I'm still trying though! :lr
