Going to kick back later tonight and light up and smoke the heck out of a 55 yr old Cuban I got my hands on 39 years ago or so and have had with me ever since.
Was saving it for upcoming cruise but what the heck, looks pretty good now.

Congrats, Carlos. That Cuban is surely a keeper.

Nice! What marca?

It's a "made in Pinar del Rio" custom blend.
Took a couple of people to make it.

First Pre-Embargo Cuban I have ever seen that actually came with instructions, lots of them, never ending it seems.
Need to make sure I read them well before firing up.

And just when you think you have them memorized, they change.

You gotta love them middle-aged Cubans. Some are natural and some dyed, but I've never heard much of a complaint about them. Just beware, Carlos, sometimes they start out dry, but if you take your time to let it warm up, well, then it's amazing and will really treat you right. Just be sure to change the position once in a while so that you don't get in a rut - ruts are bad things with older Cubans.

Thanks Mark.
Great advice.
I was going to make sure after I removed the packaging, I would moisten one end really well first before trying to light it up.
Varying positions sounds like a plan for sure.

Just be sure you're careful with the pre-light cut.

Just the tip, you know. ;)

Moistness is the key.

Gotta lick it before you stick it.
Gotta get it soft n' wet.....

Since this appears to be a once-a-year event, you gotta make the most of it!

Sadly, looks like this review will have to wait.
Grandchildren ended up sleeping over and for numerous health reasons, don't think it's appropriate to light up an awesome 55 yr old pre-embargo Cuban in their presence.
No fears though, it's coming, eventually.

At this rate, may have no choice but to resort to getting a handle on it.

More bad news........
Going on cruise for weekend and just realized, NO SMOKING IN CABIN.
Not even on balcony anymore.
Will have to do it by the pool, in the wind, for all to see.
Hope it's nippy out.

Got to try this out over the weekend.
Quite frankly, with all going on in our lives, hadn't had a chance to smoke a great pre embargo Cuban in peace and quiet in a while.

Pre light:
Exciting just at the thought of it.
Very arousing to the senses.

Overall impression at pre light:
Amazingly well made and for its age, clearly well constructed and still holding its form.

First third:
Initially dry but once moistened and allowed to warm up, true flavors came right through. Started a little rough but quickly became smooth.

Second third and last third:
Went quite fast but enjoyable.

Overall impression:
Would clearly do it again.
