Don’t let the size scare you away, that’s what the Don Rigo website mentions about the Dr. Steve consigliers cigars, and that’s not without a reason. These cigars are huge, 190mm long and have a ring size of 60. My Xikar Xi2 cutter was almost too small for this megastructure among cigars. The people at Don Rigo were kind enough to send me a sampler containing 10 Dr. Steve consigliers to review, for which I am grateful. And the service is wonderful, just 3 days after our first contact I got the sampler at home.

The cigar has a pretty dark color but it’s not dark enough to be a maduro and is made out Dominican filler and binder and an Indonesian wrapper. The wrapper is flawless, just a few nice veins, the band is nice, simple, colorful and clear. The cigar has a great look and a great feel, nice and firm and when I smelled it I smelled straw. The predraw and the draw are both easy and smooth, just the way every cigar should be.

After lighting the cigar I could taste a bit coffee and some smooth leather but all in a very creamy way. At about a quarter of the cigar there was a hint of cacao although all flavors are so creamy that it’s hard to discover a real flavor, there are several flavors that I could taste, but none I could name and in this case it’s a compliment. It is a very smooth, medium bodied cigar, a wonderful creation which shows that non Cubans can be just as satisfying as Cubans.

The smoke is thick and rich with a light gray bit frayed but firm smoke. When the ash broke just a big over the half the burn got a bit crooked but that was corrected easily, and hey, what is one correction in a two hour smoke?

I recommend all readers to go to www.rigoscigars.com and order a few of those big ones.

Would I buy this cigar again? Hell yeah! They will become a constant factor in my humidor
