Talk about an Easter I'll remember!

The wife and I decide to go to the M Casino here in Henderson to grab a bite for dinner. We get there and decide to contribute a little to their operating expenses before eating.

So I'm playing a machine right next to the buffet, smoking a cigar of course. A PSD4. The machine I'm fooling with goes into a bonus round. Suddenly a shot rings out. A gunshot. Loud and real close. I'd guess a .380 or a 9mm.

I look at the buffet line next to me and people are hitting the floor. I drop down to a crouch and try to figure out what's going on. The damn machine is happily ringing up credits as the bonus round continues. People are running, screaming, complete chaos. I'm looking trying to identify any shooters, but can't see anyone who looks threatening.

Turns out a guy at the front of the line pulled out a gun and put one into his own head. Last I saw of him he was laying there, so close to his meal but so far. I'm not sure if he was DRT or still breathing. Reports are conflicting at this point.

The police arrived and shut down the parking structure before I could get my vehicle out. So it looks like the Jeep is spending the night at the M. I had to call a buddy to come and fetch us.

This went down about thirty to forty feet from me. Hard to describe the thoughts that go through your head when something like that happens.

So how was your Easter?

Interesting choice of venue for that sort of thing. :hm

Sad, but at least he didn;'t take anyone with him like so many do these days, Bill.

My Easter was MUCH more low key.

Didn't have an Easter like that, never did, and hope I never do. Had a similar MLK Day once however. A commuter train line runs through the middle of town, from NYC to (originally anyway) Scranton. As I was walking by its overpass at the station, I heard the thump when a woman decided to step in front of a westbound local. Not a pleasant sound, or thought.

Glad you are OK, and as Tom said, at least he did not see the M as a target-rich environment.

Wow....crazy story. As stated above, glad you & your wife are okay. Also that it appears there was just the 1 individual involved.

Any problem getting paid out? What was the take?

Think the machine paid around $30. To be honest I wasn't paying much attention. :D

Local rumors include the one that he'd been stalking one of the buffet hostesses, and did himself in front of her saying "This is for you!".

The casino definitely needs an evacuation plan. The staff stood around pretty much yelling conflicting orders at the customers. The casino stayed open, but most food venues shut down. So you had hungry people who couldn't access their vehicles standing around getting more and more irritated.

The police finally opened the garage this morning and I retrieved my wheels. The police were investigating a minor car fire in the garage that occurred at the same time and may have been linked to the incident.

All in all, just another day in Sin City.

Whoa! That is crazy. Glad to see you and the bride made it out safely.

I painted my back porch after church. Got a few mosquito bites near dark, but other than that, I'm Ok.

That's crazy, glad you and everyone else is ok.

30 bucks, only 30 bucks, you need to punch the story up a little and make it like 3000 or something :tu

Seriously makes you wonder, I mean why would someone do that in a casino standing in line. Hopefully the people around him in line aren't having a rough time of it, though I'm guessing some of them are pretty traumatized.

Hard to imagine this whole thing is, apparently, a dispute over a free buffet for life prize. I found this article: http://news.yahoo.com/apparent-suicide-near-nevada-casinos-buffet-panics-patrons-164426528.html

I feel very bad for everyone who was involved directly or indirectly. Not an event likely to be forgotten and it is likely to remain associated with Easter in the future for many affected. I imagine that it will be very hard for the staff working that day to man the buffet any time soon.

Glad to hear that you are OK Bill. I was at the M in Vegas back in February when I went to the Vegas Big Smoke event. The food was good, but definately not worth dying for. The management should have handled this much differently, hopefully they will in the future.

Here's an an article about the incident (http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/las-vegas/suicide-m-resort-blamed-loss-free-buffet-life). Apparently he'd been awarded free buffet for life from the casino in 2010, but they revoked it in 2013 due to him harassing some of the women working there. That so enraged him that it culminated in his suicide.

The guy was pretty screwed up. When my wife got home from work yesterday, she showed me his Facebook page. Sad is the only way I can put it. Like many said, it was fortunate he didn't decide to take others with him. Very fortunate.

Just saw another story about it.

The day before he put a gun to his head and killed himself at an M Resort buffet on Easter Sunday, a Las Vegas man filled a box with his complaints against the resort and its employees and mailed it to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

In his final, angry message to the world, delivered to the newspaper Monday morning, John Noble blamed his suicide on depression that set in after the Henderson resort awarded him free meals at the buffet for life then banned him from the property in 2013 for harassing some of the women working there.

“Today, I end my life due to the M Resort Spa Casino and its employees,” the 53-year-old Noble wrote in one of two suicide notes he included with an obsessively detailed dossier on the people he blamed for destroying his life.

At about 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Noble shot himself in the resort on south Las Vegas Boulevard near St. Rose Parkway. Henderson firefighters were already at the resort’s parking garage extinguishing a burning vehicle police now say belonged to Noble.

Wow...Glad that he was the only DOA. I'd hate to be the one behind him, see him pull the gun and off himself.
