If any of those threads could play Shortstop, Sandy might've had something.
"Let's build our team around pitching, and have the worst double play tandem in the league."

Just to keep Mets banter current, and without reeling off the birthdays of all Mets former players, front office staff, groundskeepers, etc....some levity...

Q: What song do New York Mets fans sing before the bottom of the ninth inning?

Wait for it....

A: Nobody knows. There's never any of them left.

Nice win by the Mets last night. They hit in the clutch and did a great job in the field.
Roberts gave you guys a gift, going 30 pitches and 2 walks deep with Dunn, who didn't have any movement on the ball right from the git.
I was impressed by your boys taking advantage. They showed excellent patience at the plate rather than getting excited and trying to jump on Dunn. They made him suffer.
That's how you win ball games. :tu

Another win today...even though the bullpen tried like hell to give it away. Todays win was a costly one. Lost D'naurd and Blevins. Get this rookie, Paweksi (SP?) is getting the call earlier than anticipated. Hope this doesn't slow us down.

I watched the entire game yesterday (I was being a lazy dick all day) and saw both Blevins and d'Arnaud get plugged. Here's the plan for replacements:

THE REPLACEMENTS

Alderson said catcher Kevin Plawecki, a prized prospect, and right-hander Hansel Robles will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to help fill in. Blevins and d'Arnaud are headed to the disabled list, and it's unclear how long they'll be out. Both are scheduled to be examined by a specialist Monday.

So, guess we're not gonna go 159-3. :r :r :r

deGrom looked like stir fried dogsh*t this evening. Nothing but fastballs against left handers in that little league field they call Yankee Stadium (314 down the left field line). What did he think was gonna happen?

On a positive note...didn't lose anything in the standings...Braves lost too. :D

The Poet
04-24-2015, 08:38 PM
It's the right field line, brother, and it apparently is only 314 in the bottom of the inning. I have come to that conclusion after years and years of hearing opponents whine about The Babe's Short Porch, and so assume it must grow to around 380 when the visitors are up. :r

But look at the bright side. Mets started another streak tonight. :D

kelmac07
04-24-2015, 08:49 PM
You're absolutely correct Thomas...meant to say right field line, not left. I'll take 13-4 any day of the week. With the injuries, I thought we'd be 4-13.

And hats off to Pineda..he threw a gem tonight.

The Poet

I know...and to take a 7-0 loss to the worst team in the league this evening. The downward slope begins. Won 11 in a row...now we've lost 5 in a row...guess we're shooting for 11 losses in a row as well.

Mets fall out of first place...it was inevitable. I don't think we've had a starting pitcher record a win in over a week. The offense has been exposed. Hey Alderson..how about going out and getting some bats???? You can't consistently win ballgames only scoring 1.4 runs.

Dave128
05-21-2015, 08:12 AM
They've still exceeded my expectations for the season so far. It's early and there's a ton of baseball left. I'm not looking for a first place finish in the division, but a wildcard would be nice.

Has it really come to this?
There is now a Go Fund Me page to get the Mets a bat.
http://www.gofundme.com/zxxtpg

The unwillingness of the front office to spend money baffles me.
They needed a bat when David Wright had his press conference with no answers. Now they need two.
How are they trying to fill those holes?
From an ESPN writers twitter:
A MLB exec on #Mets: "They want a middle of the order OF bat who isn't going to cost anything -- in terms of dollars or players.''
Good luck with that. #Mets

The Mets are scared to win. They have prospects to trade away for a bat they desperately need without trading away any starting pitchers. GM needs to be reminded that you need to take a shot if you want to score.

It is sad that the loyal devoted Met fans feel they need to address the hitting problems of their team, which the owner seems to ignore. It is sadder that they believe a "mere" $3 million will procure a batter of sufficient impact to significantly address this issue. It is saddest of all that, as of the last time I checked, the project has raised pledges of only 750 bucks.

Up to $1050 a few hours ago. With that kind of money, we should be able to sign a few Little Leaguers. :bh :bh

The Poet

Re the trade, I am always torn when it comes to swapping young arms for old bats. True, you might be selling the future away for the chance that the pieces you get today have enough gas left to get you over the hill. Yet though those 20+ pitchers, who may or may not develop into 20+ winners, could also throw their very last baseball with their very next pitch. Arms are fragile. Bats can be swung by old men with lame shanks.

Not a fan of this trade AT ALL!!!

While not a sexy trade, I think it's a good one.
Granted, while neither player is going to put the team on it's back and carry them into the playoffs, both players are true Major Leaguers, and are upgrades over what the Mets currently have.
Mets still need a bat, and if that bat winds up in the infield, their bench just got a whole lot deeper. Plus, the upgrade didn't cost you anything talent wise.
A good day for the Mets, IMO.......Well, except for the 7-2 loss last night. :D
