My First Opus X!

Size: 5 1/4 x 50
Cigar Shape: Robusto
Cigar Filler: Dominican Republic
Cigar Binder: Dominican Republic
Cigar Wrapper: Dominican Republic

Smoking Time: 50 minutes
Flavor: Super Duper rich and smooth

The unlit aroma was soft yet spicey. The unlit Draw was complex (is that possible for an unlit cigar?). The flavor started out quite beautifully. The cigar changed flavor/taste 3 times and burned nice and hot even with the longer ash. I noticed a nice smooth woodsy flavor, that then modified into a super rich smooth unexplainable blend of leathery goodness. The cigar ended very hot and the roof of my mouth and tounge were engulfed with a very thick creamy "sensation"

The cigar was extremely consistent and the draw was exactly what i desire (a little on the loose side).

There are alot of pics from the same "point in time"... please enjoy, i know i did!

I usually write a longer reviews. But i wanted to make this one different.

Now i'm hooked.... BTW.

you know, alot of people say opus are a great cigar, some even say that the inflated prices are worthy of the stick it beholds..

I say this. The smoke was one of the most tasty i've had to date, and the aftertaste is by far the best lingering smooth flavor i've ever had (1 hour later)

Deff worth the 14.00 bucks. not worth 25.00 (like some people pay)

you know what? I've contemplated buying a nice expensive cutter... but i saw where that got me with my 80.00 dollar colibri lighter (i know use a ronson).

Go with what you know!

if i try a palio and like it, i'll simply buy one!

Trust me, you can't go wrong with a palio. I used several cutters untill Conch Republican gave me a palio, never used another cutter before. And they are shaped to be a cigarholder too, no more balancing the cigar on your lighter. Works as a charm.

Thats alot of (cool) pictures. :) Next time can we see each exhale? :D

Last time I smoked one of these did it with just one ash. Only cigar ever that way. Concrete ash. It had nice flavors. It highlights the conundrum in chatting across the Light side / Dark side divide. There are NC cigars that are real good. Typically, they are more expensive though.

Good Review. Was the cigar new, or did it have some age? I have smoked a few with 6 -7 years on them, and they haven't been half bad.

Its funny that you mention that. I pulled out an Ashton Maduro the other day and did a photoreview (its on here too) and i was all excited to use my new CAO cubist ashtray... but i didnt need to... every pic of the cigar is with the ash attached... and i just doused it and threw it out when i was done...

BTW, i got that Ashton to stand up straight on its ash...!

Noooooooooooo! :D

But thank you for your help. 5 pictures per post seems like a reasonable limit. ;)

There are some who still use dial-up and as such will never see posts with a zillion pictures in them given the time to load. Picture links work well though.

Perfectly understandable from your perspective. It's interesting how perspectives change as we evolve our experiences within and around this interesting hobby.

Hope to have the oportunity to re-quote the post above "down the line". :ss

It's COMPLETELY disgusting,,,,,,,and I love it. The few people(non-inmates) I've told I participate in such craziness look at me like I've got a third head.
It allows you to smoke cigars that otherwise could not be handed out to everyone, compare a multitude of flavors, compare cigars against cigars (I knew X cigar tasted like Y cigar, etc.) and in a weird way it is some kind of bonding type of thing.
You always remember your first ;). In my case I knew I was going to do it, and when that first cigar came around it was like diving into a pool, you just do it. Thanks to all the brothers and sisters I've had the privilege to Herf and PPP with.

I don't understand what the issue is (as long as no one slobbers). The same folks who scoff at a PPP think nothing of taking a belt off of a buddies beer or flask.

That's why I make sure and dry my lips with a napkin or if nothing else my shirt sleeve before puff(.com)ing.

eh, i smoke cigars in the fashion that makes them most enjoyable. And they are. I also dont htink i'm the type of guy that would ever take part in a PPP either.

So i'm A-OK!!! I thought the same thing. Besides, cigar smokers are disgusting and why would I want to share a cigar with them. I do usually limited my puff(.com)ing to two rounds per cigar unless it's one I REALLY like.

Quite profound from many angles...

your a pretty decent guy Klugs. You have no idea. He jokes a lot, gives pretty much everyone a hard time, but like everyone else on the team of 11 will amaze you by his generosity.

I have always thought picture reviews should contain the following pictures:
One prelight, cut or uncut both we don't need both
One sometime after the light, within the first inch or so
One of the ash if you keep it on for 2.5 inches or more before it falls
One of the aftermath, meaning the nub, with the band nearby if you want, or not.
acceptable additions as needed would be if there were any issues with the cigar, including but not limited to a very bad burn, canoeing, tar, wrapper splitting, etc. Another acceptable addition to the pictures above would include the atmosphere or location if it is unique or neat for any reason.

Sometimes less is more.

Great pictures and review.

I myself prefer to post a zillion photos (like yourself) and I also enjoy seeing others pictures.

Opus is a good cigar to revist from time to time. :tu

PPP is the way to go. Very rarely am I in the mood to smoke multiple cigars at the same time so this PPP'ing works great.
My buddy Mark (borndead1), and I PPP all the time. He slobbers like yourself (you guys would make a nice date for the right person :r) :dr

I sent you a hidden message that only you can see... not a PM, but you'll have to find it yourself. Don't worry about it too much. What I posted is a general guideline, and not a hard and fast rule. More pictures than what I posted isn't necessarily a bad thing within reason.

You'll do well here. You like cigars, you are excited about them and you are open to constructive criticism. There really isn't much more anyone needs to fit in here. I mean, we're all a little weird here anyway. :D

after many different cutters over the years, the best one was a cutter that looked exactly like yours... single-blade guilottine, bulky, plastic piece of junk my dad gave me - firm blade, straight, sharp cut. It got too dirty, a little rusty, so I go with the Palio, even though it still cuts amazing!
