Anyone else use MCT oil as part of their diet? I've got a bottle on order that should get here this week. I tried it for the first time about a week and a half ago while visiting my uncle in Arizona. He made me bullet proof coffee one morning. Damn if I didn't get a big kick from it.
Reading up on the benefits of MCT oil, it seems like it's too good to be true, but the research backs it up.

MCT Oil, or medium-chain triglyceride oil. Derived from coconut oil. When ingested, it gets converted directly to energy, rather than go into the normal digestion process as typical long-chain triglycerides do.

I doubt any since it's a fat and not a carb. I'll let you know when I get mine, as I'm type II as well.

Ive been taking MCT oil since January. I'm down 20lbs (without diet changes) while adding 30lbs to my bench and squat, and 35 to my deadlift. Just be careful with the dose, google "mct panic pants" for more information there.

Oh, I found out about too large a dosage. Nothing bad but more trips to the John that day. The bottle showed up on the porch today. Took a tsp before heading out on a walk. Not sure if it was psychological but I had more get up and go the first 20 mins.

Just an update. Been taking about 1 tbsp a day since I got the bottle of oil. I've lost about 3-4 lbs with maybe only a slight increase in exercise.

Thanks for the info on the MCT oil Bob. Back in the mid to late 80's, I used to take Twin Lab's MCT Fuel prior to workouts (whether weight training or going out for a jog). Lots of energy enjoyed and fat loss. However, since its flavored orange, I never did give it a shot in coffee:D

I did look-up the BulletProof web page, and the recipe for the BulletCoffee, using the XCT Oil, BulletProof Coffee, and grass-fed butter looks interesting. Will probably have to try the Brain Octane too:D

Will keep you posted...

Interested to hear your thoughts Mark. I quit using MCT oil after my bottle ran out. Just never bothered to reorder.
As for the idea of bullet proof coffee, I think any coffee will work. I should try this again now that my normal grocery carries Kerrygold butter.

Be careful Perry, when you first start taking it. It can have a laxative effect, like castor oil.

Starting with a teaspoon, don't need a prep bomb before work :r

You may want to monitor your resting pulse and blood pressure before you start taking it and while taking it. Best to know and be in control.

Why's that, does it raise it?

You won't know until you confirm it.
Not saying, don't take MCT at all, but be certain of what is going on with your vitals.
After living through Epinephrine and GHB eras of supplements, I side to caution.

I've taken it in the past. Plus side, it did seem to increase my energy and decrease my hunger. On the down side, it did have the laxative effect that others have mentioned.
Your mileage may vary.

Stopped by Whole Foods earlier this week and picked up the following for the coffee:

They do carry KerrysGold butter here too, but I decided to go with the German butter. In place of the BulletProof coffee, I went with a pound of Black Gold (which makes a hellacious cup of joe on its own. Very delicious blend of beans).
I've been using this in the morning for the last few days (1 teaspoon only at this time. Will increase to 2 teaspoons next week). More energy, no jitters. Reduces eating craving for me until around noonish. No laxative effects. I have an Omron blood pressure monitor, and there've been no effects on my BP to date.
What I enjoy about this blend of ingredients is the smoothness of the final product. It reminds me of having a cup of coffee with half n half and no sugar. Although, there's a very slight sweetness in the background, probably due to the butter.
While at Whole Foods, I did notice that they carry both the MCT and Brain Octane in stock.

Costco darn near give's away Kerry's Gold butter. We use that are our every day butter; just keeping it on the counter.

The day I purchased the German butter, Whole Foods had both the salted and unsalted Kerry's Gold on sale 2/$6.00 ($3.00 ea), but, I'm sure that Costco had an even better price as well!
