Also, what soap do you use?

I'm using Meguiars gold class car wash and NXT Tech wax 2.0...I need a good brake dust repellant...any suggestions there?

I use two microfiber towels (picked up a bunch at Costco) and dish soap. One towel for washing and another towel for drying. The catch with using the microfiber towel for drying is that the towel needs to be wet in order to be effective. Counterintuitive, but it works.

I used to use fancier soaps (Meguiars, Mothers, etc.) but my dealer told me that they recommend a mild dish soap over these others, because they are milder -- which is better for the finish.

If you find something that repells brake dust please let me know! My brake pads are very dusty and it is a real PIA to keep my wheels clean...

Thanks for the ideas.

Ihave never used this stuff, but it was the first 2 listed when I googled brake dust repellent.

My step dad used to use a Car Shami, which had to be wet in order to dry it. I did like that when I used it.

I've always used Meguiars Gold class to wash, I've been told that dish washing soap actually strips the car of the waxes/polishes.

My procedure to clean:

Wet Sand if Needed

Meguiars Gold Class wash

Meguiars #2 Fine Cut Cleaner

Meguiars #7 Show car glaze or #3 Professional Machine Glaze (3 coats)

Meguiars #26 Hi-Tech Liquid Wax (2 coats)

It's been a looong time since I've done this procedure, I wonder if I remember all the techniques and gentle touch to even attempt the whole thing. I just used a standard drill and attachment with wool pads. Never burned the paint and had amazing results.

Actually....yes :D

Actually and ironically, they're governed at 177mph.

I interviewed at a Maserati dealership last week, but I'm not ready to return to the dealerships yet. Maserati is doing a lot to hit the American market including an entry level at 60ish K, but the engines are made in the Ferrari shop.

We don't do anything fancy to wash the cars, we just wash them regularly. We keep them very clean, inside and out. Kid repellent would be a lot more helpful than brake dust repellent.
But I do use Westley's Bleche-wite to clean up brake dust and keep the tires clean. I have a curved scrub brush that really helps. Plus I spray the stuff on all the wheels, then start at the first one and give them all another spray when I clean them.
We're currently using Armor-All car wash, but it's just what was on sale.

We never, ever wax the cars. There's a reason clear coat was invented. It wicks away water and leaves them spotless. If I wax the clear coat, it spots.

I have a big bottle brush for my wheels, but Weeze's wheels are wide open. I can reach all the way to the back side of the tire, they're super easy to clean.
If ya don't let brake dust build up, it cleans up easy. Otherwise, bleche-wite will clean it up with a little soak time. :tu

I wonder if thats on all models....I found this posted on autosaur.com

The car is able to reach 60mph from a standing start in just under 4.7 seconds. The Coupe’s maximum speed is 185mph, while the Standard and Sport Convertible can do 177mp. The Convertible MC hits 180mph.

This is very true. When I used to detail cars, I would wash wish dish soap after I called a car--just to make absolutely positively sure that all the gunk was off.

After cleaning the wheels with a variety of brushes (and Sonax wheel gel cleaner), I use Duragloss 501, followed by Duragloss 105, then keep it topped up with Duragloss Aquawax.

A question for you other detailer's, what's the difference in a fine cut versus clay bar? I stopped detailing around when clay bars started coming out and when I lost access to a covered area to detail in.

I love Optimum ONR, their car wax, and their car wash is my preferred wash of choice.

Bonjing, I've used clay bars since I've been detailing. Now the new thing is Decon washes. I haven't tried those yet.

My glass on my car performs better than being rain x'ed. I claybar the glass. Then use duragloss 501 on a white ccs pad on the porter cable. Then dg 105 as a sealant. It's worked stellar, and very easy to perform.

My washing procedure is to never take it to a car wash place. They are the major cause of swirling in paint.

Dish soap to remove the old wax.

Wash with Mothers Car Wash
Mothers Clay Bar w/ Instant Detailer to remove any embedded dirt
Wash with Mothers Car Wash
Menzerma Compound (anywhere from 400 to 4000 depending on the amount of paint correction needed.)
Wash with Mothers Car Wash
Seal the paint with Menzerma PL Sealant
Buff
Wax with AutoGlymm High Definition Wax
Buff

I use a Griots orbital polisher

then for touch ups, I just wash it with the Mothers Car Wash and wax it every so often.

You really don't want to use dish soap on your car unless you wax every time you wash! :td

The 2010 Mazda 6 that I bought this last January met an unfortunate demise a couple of weeks ago....:td Someone failed to yield the right of way at an intersection where I had the flashing yellow light and I broadsided him. 40 mph right into the side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee means that the Jeep wins in this case. SO, here is my new baby:

https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5577/14667156717_869edb37db_b.jpg

2014 Dodge Dart SXT! Nicely optioned out, plenty of pep from the 2.4L 184 HP engine, and she does look great in blue, doesn't she? It's the first new car that I've bought since 1995. I got tired of buying used and ending up getting nickel and dimed to death with repairs, no warranty, poor resale and trade in value, etc.

Traded in my beloved white Cadillac DeVille for my first foreign car -- Toyota Highlander AWD. Made in Georgetown KY, so I do not feel bad about buying foreign brand.
I like the Highlander. AWD makes for nimble driving when hills here are wet.
Now considering a 2015 Cadillac SRX.

I love dogs with up ears, and while it has a back seat, I don't think that it's all that easy to load a baby into a car seat with the access allowed. Maybe when he is out of a car seat and can scamper into the back we can look at an Evora.

It's equal or easier to get stuff in the back seat than a 911 and the back seat is a bench, not buckets. This was one reason I went with the Evora; Lily wasn't digging the buck seats in the XK. Was considering a Vantage, but that had no back seat.

Picked this up about a week ago. It's a 2017 Jaguar XE 3.0 Supercharged R Sport. The day after I picked it up, I left the country and just got back. Haven't really driven it anywhere, but so far so good. Great handling and steering feel. Has every option you can think of

Was close on an F-Type, but thought we could wait 1.5 years (Volvo lease ends) for another pure sports car. I traded the Lotus in on the XE.

This one is very similar to F-Type with same engine as V6-S, same front suspension, similar rear suspension. XE is also the most aerodynamic Jag to date. The electric steering and adaptive dynamics make it feel like hydraulic style steering rack.

I am not big on BMW's (I don't buy German cars), but the X6 is one of their best designs! Really has some presence in person; style over utility. I also like Z4, 6 Grand Coupe, i3 and i8.

Dave, very nice! Are you getting the whole car done or just front?

I did the front of the car through vendors, mirrors, and door handles. The material was a new Suntek Ultra film that came with a 10 year warranty. He had Xpel as well but recommended the Suntek as same thickness but more pliable and easier to keep adhesion on the panel edges. So far so good.

I have sped a little bit in Nevada on Hwy 80 as someone wanted to push me a bit tailgating at 90 mph so I opened it up. He couldn’t keep up and I pulled away easing off at 127 mph. After that little exercise, he got in line as he got to see what he wanted. The limit is 80 mph which is plenty fast but play time for a bit I suppose.

Two seat with very little storage behind the seat. Decent size trunk all considered, but yes it is small.

I am shopping for an Aston Martin Rapide instead. I realize I need more utility now than when I had a two seat the last time (12+ years ago). Who knew I wouldn't have same needs now as then? The Lotus at least had a back seat for the dog. Our dog seems to be calling shots...

That and I just don't get to do real sports car driving much. Roads are usually congested and the Aston drives best when you get on it. Seldom do the road allow for much "get on it". The clutch is heavy on the Vantage compared to the few other competing manuals.

Your setup looks insane!

I have Velocity AP decats installed on my Aston. They replace the passive CATs that are not monitored. I am retaining the factory exhaust. I wanted to preserve the factory sound, but get more power and more sound.

Fabspeed also makes parts for Aston, but Velocity AP is more popular among Aston owners. I think each marque has the preferred vendor even though multiple brands are available. Fabspeed seems more popular with Italian marques, especially Maserati.

No I did not. I do not like the looks of the Panamera. The difference in price & quality is pretty far apart.

I considered a Ferrari California and Aston Martin DB9/Virage. I need a useful back seat which lacks in DB9.

The Rapide is a great balance between a regular car and sports car. Really has dual personalities. Once sport and adaptive dampening is turned on, it's a real performer around corners and the engine sounds awesome. Better steering feel than most full sports car I have driven (outside of other British sports cars). Haven't driven a modern German car that has the same tactile and quick steering response. Got 11 mpg on the hwy! I think I could get a little better mileage if tried.

We're thinking of upgrading soon and I've really been eyeing the Panamera, even though the looks take some getting used to. We love our Volvo, especially with the awd and V8, but it's about time to retire it I think. Would love to consider a Rapide, but I think finding a good pre-owned one may be difficult on our budget and the lack of support for servicing around us would be a big issue as well.

Why not go for the Volvo S90 all decked out? Beautiful car inside and out. We had an S60 which was leased and ended in February. Once our Jaguar lease is up, we are considering another Volvo. I like V90 as well. The styling inside and out is really great and they use nice materials inside the car.

What is your locale? How far or close is the nearest Aston dealer? I bought the Rapide from a CA and had it shipped to MA. It was a one owner from Beverly Hills. I waited over 6 months for the local dealer to find a Rapide and none ever came around. Once I bought the Rapide, a month or so later they get one on trade in... Figures. I would much prefer to buy local, but that can't be assured. There are two dealers in New England, and the one I use only have 50 Rapide's in their system. The car has been for sale 8 years; so it is pretty rare. Several of my car friends have never seen one in person.

4WheelVFR

We drove an S90 a while back and it really didn't suit us. Our S80 has the V8 and sports package which makes it fairly sporty for what it is, and the V8 sounds fantastic lol. We've driven a recent 7 series which we didn't like at all and I just drove an E60 M5 couple weeks ago. The M5 seemed to fit us better but I hated the SMG tranny and my Wife refuses to drive a manual......sigh. I guess we'll keep checking out other cars at our leisure and if nothing really comes up, we're ok with that. We really do like our Volvo and the lack of a car payment is really nice.
As for Aston, I really don't know where the nearest dealer is offhand. We live about 2 hrs South of St.Louis which isn't really close to anything.

Dealership gave me a brand new Panamera recently as a loaner. I think it might have been a "4" but not positive. Have to say it felt really big and not so nimble. Naturally it is bigger than my car, but when I drove a Cayenne I didn't have that same reaction - I loved the Cayenne.

Young kids fit great! My oldest daughter is 10 and she is probably just reaching the point where she will start to feel cramped in another year or two.

Our daughter is just over 3 so she's got a lot of time left to grow into it. I heard the cabriolet is a little more cramped in the back due to the back seat being a tad less reclined. Have you found this to be true?

Haven't sat in a hard top.... cab back seat is absolutely uncomfortable for an adult... max of a mile or two without triggering a visit to the chiropractor.

Dealership gave me a brand new Panamera recently as a loaner. I think it might have been a "4" but not positive. Have to say it felt really big and not so nimble. Naturally it is bigger than my car, but when I drove a Cayenne I didn't have that same reaction - I loved the Cayenne.

A friend got one as loaner too and he said the same exact thing. Between the looks and reviews I was all set on the Panamera.
