View Full Version : Building a man cave

I recently bought a house, a 3 story house with an indoor garage on the ground floor. Behind the garage there were 2 rooms of about 108 square feet each. First thing me and a buddy did was rip out the wall that divided the rooms

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af186/cigarguide/Casa%20Fernando%20Lounge/1796621_10202612294102317_2010304964_n_zps5bafae3a .jpg (http://s1006.photobucket.com/user/cigarguide/media/Casa%20Fernando%20Lounge/1796621_10202612294102317_2010304964_n_zps5bafae3a .jpg.html)

That left me with one room, approx 215 square feet big.

Next thing: getting rid of that funky wallpaper

http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af186/cigarguide/Casa%20Fernando%20Lounge/1507014_10202623792309765_808859414_n_zps14da7ba1. jpg (http://s1006.photobucket.com/user/cigarguide/media/Casa%20Fernando%20Lounge/1507014_10202623792309765_808859414_n_zps14da7ba1. jpg.html)

Then the construction started

tomorrow we're gonna lay a new floor, hopefully we have some time to install the system for the shelves.

No paint inside the humidor but the walls of the man cave will be ocherous with plenty of cigar art on the walls, a hand painted El Brujito on one wall and all the American license plates too.

moving took time, add a few days without internet and there's the delay ;)

tonight I hung the temporary curtains (ok, the curtains aren't temporary but the system is). A Nicaraguan flag, a Dominican flag and for the other 2 windows I will use the Cuban flag I have (but its still boxed up somewhere) and i'm waiting on a Honduran flag.

Thanks for just adding an additional requirement to the home I buy/build in the next year or so. I work from home so my office NOW has to be big enough to build something like this in it! And I thought I would be happy with the wineador that I just setup. Now I need to figure out a air filtration system that will allow me to smoke inside. My wife hasn't had a problem with my new cigar hobby but smoking inside is out for now.

I am completely out of acids or any other infused cigar because I don't smoke them, don't like them and don't store them with my good cigars. If I had any, I would give them to the people that come to play poker at my house soon (yeah Django, you would have to smoke them all).

I love Drew Estate's traditional cigars. Nica Rustica, Liga Privada, Undercrown, Herrera Esteli, all great smokes, but acids, meh, not my cup of (infused) tea.

Yes, if you are viewing this from an office as my case we block out photo sharing sites such as photo bucket so I don't see the pics, but I do see them from home.

Well apple maps says it a six and half hour drive to Amsterdam for me. I can also take the Nuremberg to Amsterdam hopper. So the real question is when do you want to smoke it up? :r

Hello Ferdinand, I think your place is Da Bomb. Looking at some pictures I am just wondering if your Humi is in Direct sunlight? I see in the reflections of the Humi window the outdoors. I myself would be little worried about the Cigars that are out of boxes are not in direct sunlight. Anyway I am jealous for 2 reasons one of my old Friends lives about 80 or so miles from Amsterdam and your awesome stock of some nice smoking sticks. Hope you enjoy.. Oh yeah and you guys have awesome Licorice there as well. My friend hasn't sent me any in over 2 years starting to miss the care packages:)

Works great Greg, still a full humidor though but I got rid of a lot of my crappy Cubans, only have a handful of those cigars left :tu Most of it is Nicaraguan, then some Dominican, a few boxes of Honduran and a few singles from other countries like Costa Rica, Panama, Indonesia and Peru.

An artist friend painted some more logo's on my wall, I replaced the furniture. I will upload some new photo's soon.

I promised pictures a few months ago, finally made them after getting more furniture (2 empty Rocky Patel Prohibition crates as a table, new chairs) and switching everything around a bit.

Soon 4 more logo's will be painted on the wall (My Father, Roma Craft, Perdomo and Guayacan), then it's done.

I'm pretty new to cigars, and I was just thinking how great it would be to have a little room to smoke inside like this. It's so damn cold! I couldn't have chosen a worse time to start smoking.

Anyone have any luck smoking cigars in garages? Does the smell leak into the house?

oO, just found this thread. Very nice job Ferdinand. I've seen lacquered tabletops and cork boards filled with bands, but never seen a glass window/wall full of them, nice! *files away in list of mancave ideas*

The Rocky Patel Socialism cigar art made me lol a little.

Welcome to the forums Johnny. You might want to consider starting up a new thread for ideas on winter smoking. Also skim back a little, because I know the subject has been discussed before.

With that said, I'll tell you what I've done in the past. You're right, winter can be hell for cigar smokers sometimes. Often the easiest option is to smoke at local cigar lounges and cigar shops, IF you have them. Lots of areas still don't.

For smoking at home, I've been down that road in the winter. Few years back, I was in the process of selling my house, so smoking in the house was not an option. I smoked out in the uninsulated barn! There was a small 8' x 14' roofed tack room in the barn that, while uninsulated, had power and was sealed off from the draft and wind.

What I found worked well was to have a pair of "smoking gloves" that kept my hands warm enough. Plugged in a space heater and put on an extra sweater. Laptop+Wifi and I was good to go. Usually preferred movies, because it was usually too cold to take gloves off to type comfortably for long periods of time. The key was to get out of the wind. A space heater close to you can work wonders, provided there's ZERO draft.

I also switched to mostly pipes for one winter about 5 years back. The smoke is much lighter, and I could smoke inside one room in my apartment (with the door closed) without contaminating the rest of the apartment. But pipes can be tricky, finicky beasts for a new smoker (I'm still a newbie when it comes to pipes, though I still enjoy them immensely)

Cornelius & Anthony just destroyed my man cave with some awesome new artwork

can't post all pictures here due to limitations, so if you want to see all :https://cigarguideorg.wordpress.com/2017/10/10/swag-for-the-man-cave/

But the highlights are this woodcarving of the logo and a metal sign

Rearranged the art and swag, made a video and a picture heavy blog post
