Anyone watching this? Thoughts?

McConaughey is amazing, both in the "flashback" and present day. Harrelson is on the road to a meltdown. I am loving the show so far, as much or maybe more than "The Bridge".

I'm really loving this show as well. I even like the concept of new actors for every new season. A concept like that means HBO can attract more heavy hitter actors without holding them down to a popular tv show when they'd rather be pursuing movies. With how great this season has been I can only imagine who they'll attract for next season.

Three episodes in, Carlos, and they are off a week for Super Bowl Sunday, they are running all 3 throughout the 2 weeks on HBO.

ok, so Im good :).

I am seeing it in Mexico, latin HBO, but it looks like it is on par to the US as it was the 3rd episode too.

I'll try to catch the first two on these weeks if the re-run them.

Very good show. McConaughey is amazingly weird and trippy. Slow burning show but I love how it's unlike anything out there on TV.

Love the setting, music and esp. McConnaughey. Woody is good but a goof. McC is great as a spook cop.

I watched episode 1 this weekend and thought it was great! Unfortunately, episode two is not on demand. They have episode one and skip to episode three. WTF?

This show is the best show on TV at the moment. Amazing acting and the storyline is excellent. Hate to see it only get 8 episodes. 1 left. McConaughey is classic in this role.

Great show! I'm glad something is out to fill the gap between Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. HBO has some if the best shows on tv.

Me too, can't remember being that tense watching a TV show for a long time.

You are likely correct. Matthew is stellar, and Woody very underrated.

I hope the writing for season 2 makes it close.

Started the other night w/episode 1. Wife and I have both fallen asleep two consecutive nights before finishing first one. Not much to hold our interest so far. I do like McConaughy - but, Harrelson's forced accent drives me nuts (much as Spacey's does in House of Cards.) We'll give it another go, but I do hope it picks up the pace a little.

Dave, it starts out slow, but there is a darkness lingering there that you have to stick with it for it to rear it's ugly head.

VERY surprised how "happy" the ending was, def thought is was going to end much more tragic! Very pleased, another thing that the director said that makes me love the show that reminds me of the old Hammer Horror films, that they never show the brutal/disgusting scenes it shows character reactions or pans out over the LA bayous, leaving it in your imagination what really happened and makes it that much scarier/disgusting! Loved that! GOT starts April 6th and as I mentioned earlier everyone check out Ripper Street on BBC America, try and find season one first if you can (might be on Netflix?) if not oh well start with season 2. you WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!

Looks like the story may be completely new each season?

I realize this is a little old, but whatever.

The idea for the show was based on the old True Crime novels. So, yes, each "season" will be it's own story line. Further, each story isn't required to fill X number of episodes. This is something new as well. HBO is allowing the producer to produce the story/season as he sees fit. If he needs 10 episodes, then great. If it's only going to be 6... go with it. In essence, the prototypical "season" may not exist in this case. You may see multiple stories told within the same year.

The theory that TV and cinema are slowly being bridged is rather apparent with this show. IMHO, we may look back in 10 years at True Detective and say this was the primer for the next genre of TV.

I heard that mainstream cinema actors are absolutely lining up for an opportunity to star in one of these.

Of course, take this all with a grain of salt. This is just what I have read and heard from the radio/blogs. I am really excited to see what happens next.

Apparently, True Detective season 2 will have three lead detective characters. Still waiting on the names. Casting begins in June, so it shouldn't be too long, now.

Apparently, the show will be filmed in some of the lesser known areas of California (Not LA).

Yes it was, I'm wondering if there will be a shift in the plot now or if someone will go rogue.

The reviews said that the series kind of started off slow and then took off after the first few episodes. I like it but my wife seems less interested than in the first season.

I didn't even realize she only had one boob.

I liked it. Not as intriguing or enveloping as the first season, but still one of the better shows on TV this year.

There has been a lot of good and bad reviews about the season. Too much comparison to the first season has created a dislike of season 2. If someone were to watch season 2 without seeing season 1, they would feel like the second season was incredible. Season 2 just had too much to live up too. Just my 2 cents.

CRIMPS
08-11-2015, 08:11 PM
Yeah, I was so excited for Season 2, knowing that it probably wasn't going to live up to season 1 and also knowing just about everything was going to be completely different. I enjoyed it. I would give it a 7. :)

What I didn't expect is how unimpressed I was with Vince Vaughn's acting. That finale, walking through the desert... I thought that was terrible. On the other side, I thought the dynamic trio were fantastic. Taylor Kitch should be cast in more of these types of roles.
