I read somewhere here of a rumor that a new Liga Privada size was in the works. This picture surfaced and is being called fake Ligas, since no vitola such as this exists. Tell me what you think:

Super Belis? Those look more like the longer flying pigs.

i saw this on FB yesterday in the C.A.T.S. page... a picture was posted with all the pigs (UC, #9, T52, T52 (Feral), and the FFP, and according to Jonathan DrewTwo he states "it is either a joke or a misband mistake at the factory" this picture was then posted. and no further comment from JDTwo about these other then "just remember that mislabeling happens VERY VERY rarely."

Those are longer than the FFP's. And the box isn't dished or partitioned. It does look like a real LP box when you observe closely how it's made. What would we expect them to say? "Hey, guys. It's the new size!" If I was in R&D, I'd play it down, too. I guess if these are real, it goes to show you that you have to be careful where you release your test cigars.

They'll just get overpriced like the rest of the line. Once I exhaust my present supply of Ligas, I have no plans to purchase anymore at what they're selling for now.

I just texted Jon a congratulatory message. It's a real short list of NC manufacturers who are so revered as to have their cigars counterfeited.

The photo of the cigars in the box appears to be real. We just ran it through photo forensics. It is, however a png (usually a screenshot) and that may distort results. That doesn't mean the cigars are real T52's nor does it mean that these can't be counterfeit. But, IMO, no photoshop trickery was used to create the image.

2 hours ago JD (i would guess that he would be Johnathan DrewTwo) posted this about those cigars "...I want to address recent information that has been told to me. There were a VERY few boxes of these made indeed, as test blends. The blend, the type of T52 capa, and other details I don't know - to be completely honest. They seem legit but certainly not a final or finished or "blend in progress" Liga Privada product. I'm sorry that I didn't have better info for you guys and that I was not kept in the loop on it"

so i guess they are real....

He's the boss and didn't know about these? Heck of a company he's running.

He's the owner, but he has a whole staff of people working for him. With the extensive traveling JD does, he can't be in the loop of every test blend ever made.

I wouldn't expect the CEO of a mid sized multi-national corporation to know the specifics about every project especially when he wasn't informed about it.

Guys.

I'm sorry to not have had the information that I would have been expect to know in regard to the T52 FFP box that was posted recently. Due to the holidays I have not been able to obtain all the info as to how many were made and blend info. I can say that it is not a finished product or finished blend and not slated for any imminent release.

Again, sorry for not having the info.

In regard to being a CEO - I am not that guy. I gave up my CEO status at Drew Estate in 2005 when we brought on my friend, Steve Saka to run Drew Estate. For the last good while it's been Michael Cellucci, who has been with DE for 13 years.
I still should have known about the FFP tear blends in any event.

At DE we are a true team, with a lot of leeway for experimentation and a low micro management theory. We want our guys to be experimental and enjoy themselves. To this end, at both the seņor management and production floor supervisors and regular buncheros and rolleros, we make many cigars that never become a marketed product or that get made over and over for years before we actually reach consensus on it for it to go to market. Sometimes raw material limitations get in the way as well.

Best Holiday wishes to each of you.
JD

Thanks for the clarification. Maybe one day we'll be fortunate enough to enjoy a T52 Feral Pig.
