8:30pm on Christmas Eve and they are still out delivering packages (three of which showed up at our door tonight).

At least you got them. I have 2 that never arrived. I Gus's customer service doesn't mean anything anymore.

I still had drivers coming in at 1115 last night. They were not doing any pick ups today so we don't have to work tonight but i'm sure they are probably just finishing up now.

Sure, they were scared chitless not to. ;)

UPS brought me a box of Omaha steaks tonight. Almost fired up the grill.

At UPS, you gotta run the truck till it's empty. Period. Nothing goes back to the shop.
At Christmas time you literally have to crawl over packages that are piled to the ceiling in the walkway.
Then, when your crappy truck breaks down, and there's not a spare available, all kinds of goofy things happen until the packages get delivered.
I'm surprised some of the guys even get to go home before their next run is ready.
They do run a serious business, that's for sure.

I just saw a story about folks in places like Memphis and Dallas who have yet to get packages that have been "in transit" for weeks. Seems UPS is blaming the snow and ice storm, though that was also several weeks past. And I was upset that a non-urgent box for myself sent from Best Buy by the hybrid "UPS-MI" method, and scheduled for delivery on the 16th, did not arrive here until the 20th . . . though it got to Whippany NJ, maybe a two-hour WALK from here, on the 17th.

Not really bashing UPS, as they are normally very good and reliable, and no doubt weather and holiday backlog were factors. But still . . . sheesh!

According to interviews with both UPS and FedEx much of the delays in delivery were due to bad weather...

A second factor noted was unexpected heavy volume, likely sparked by increased internet sales. Both reasons are valid, yet do little to alleviate the disappointment of those whose Christmas was spent on a pallet in some warehouse.
