View Full Version : Reasons to hate cold weather

I know I don't know what real cold weather is due to being raised in the South, but I can still hate the weather we get.

Reasons:

First and foremost - static electricity. Seems like every piece of clothes I know is a mini Tesla coil.

Second - dry nasal passages and dry skin. My nose turns upside down in the winter. I'm not a big lotion guy, but I'm forced to use it in the winter time.

I've got another several months of dealing with both of these. Yah...

I feel you and agree whole heartedly. Especially about static. I've got a kinda fuzzy grey shirt I love for winter, it's good and warm, but it generates enough electricity to power a small city every time I wear it.

No kidding Jamie, looks like winter is about to set in down here...got down into the mid/low 50s here last night. Got to enjoy a tasty cigar, a warm fire, with a hot lady last night!

You need a reason to hate cold weather?

I hear ya on all you are saying. We don't get the static, much, but until about February we are all about dry sinuses and throats. After that, it is all about moss on the skin - but we have nice skin :noon

We have a local 4 star hotel, Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa, that has a back patio with fire pits. They put up side walls in the winter to help with the comfort. Smoking cigars is welcome, too. We were there last night and it was 29º outside, about 55º on the patio.

I'll share my static electricity trick - I know most of my coats were made in the Telsa lab, so I hold my pocket knife in my hand and allow it to ground on door knobs, door frames, etc. before I use my bare hand. You see a hell of a spark and very minimal jolt. It's almost routine now. Nothing like getting shocked on the lips when kissing your kids or wife though. It almost pisses me off.

Tell me about it! The frigid winters of south Florida are brutal! The sunny cloudless skies, The high temps in the low 70's or upper 60's, The nights in the mid 50's, and the tough snowless landscapes it's no wonder we don't get more fatalities every year. All i can say is I hear ya brothers...............:D

Another GREAT reason - Ice/sleet/freezing rain. We see so little of it in the South and when it comes, the world is in full stupid-mode. I've got an aggravating Bradford Pear tree in my yard that will undoubtedly succumb to any frozen precipitation. Potential hurricanes are bad enough - I didn't sign up for this mess coming our way!!

Because at my age temps in the single digits with wind chills below zero just HURT like hell. Every year older I get the more I can relate to the snow bunnies who move south for the winter when they retire. Already starting to look at where I may want to go when that magical day comes.

They are saying it's a good possibility for sleet in NE Florida north of Interstate 10. Want to guess where I'm at? I know sleet with flurries isn't a big deal to the snowmen here, but for Florida it's a nightmare, because the temps are only in the mid 30s now as soon as the sun goes down it will freeze pretty quickly and all the idiot drivers will still drive 85+ miles an hour and the roads are possibly going to have a sheet of ice on them.

Don't hate it. Embrace it.

I love bundling up and sitting outside in the winter with a good cigar as long as it isnt much below zero. Last Saturday night 1am, my son in law and I sat out on his enclosed but unheated porch, 3 below, smoking for an hour, then went for a short walk while we finished off our smokes.
Very cold, but the brandy helped.

Global warming is the modern boogieman. Had a bad day at work? Global warming! Get pulled over for speeding? Global warming!

But don't you know that there have been warmer times in our recent history? Blah blah blah CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!! Global warming!!!!

One volcano eruption puts more CO2 into the atmosphere than all the major cities of the world COMBINED! Don't you think..............AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! SHUT UP GLOBAL WARMING CAUSES ALL OUR PROBLEMS!!!!

Surface temps cannot be measured accurately without full cooperation from all world governments to get such data would cost billions to do, not to mention that a long terms study would have to be done for at least 100 years costing billions every single year and the latest satellites tell us that atmospheric temps are actually down indicating a cooling period and that is the cheapest and most accurate way to measure temps globally.......AL GORE GLOBAL WARMING AL GORE GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And another thing, we only just emerged from the "Mini Ice-Age" in the 1830's, or so. Wouldn't one expect to get warmer when emerging from an ice-age? Oh yeah! If we are getting warmer, then warmer than what? In what year was our climate theoretically correct? They tell us that our climate is "abnormal" (my word); was there a time, a year that it was "normal"? If not, then there isn't any normal at all and thus there cannot be any abnormal. :tf
Note that they call it climate change, now. Like it's gonna do anything else.

Since last night and still holding strong today, we have ice everywhere! Everything is covered in ice with a nice powdering of snow and sleet. Low 20s tonight so it's going nowhere. This is the edge of America and we don't suppose to have things like this. I bet half my folks call out tomorrow because daycares and schools are still closed. I am playing golf Sat and Mon though, suppose to be in the mid-60s both days. Can't freaking wait!
