Love me some Travis Hammonic myself.
Yeah, cant argue the Hammer... De Haan is looking pretty good this year too. and we supposedly have quite the D core coming in the next few years.
With Frans now out after that two handed slash vs. the Av's I think My Motto is "Be Bad For Ekblad." supposedly an elite D man. But I'll take any of the top 3 nicluding Griffin Reinharts baby brother.

My Dad calls me today and asks if I am getting up at 6:30 AM to watch the USA game.
After I stopped laughing hysterically, I explained TiVo to him. :)
Local B&M owner opened the shop this morning at 430 this morning. He sent out emails to customers saying to come watch. Uhhhhhh I love hockey, but I need sleep. Sleep wins.
Holy snikes, looks like Russia may be done, down 3-1 going into the 3rd.....
No idea how I am going to watch the USA game @ 10:00 AM, may try to stream it on the iPad at work or head to the gym and watch the last 2 periods on an elliptical(2 birds, 1 stone)....
All this Gold or bust pressure on the RUS hockey team looks to bee too much for that team to handle. Guess they still have 2/3rds a period to prove that wrong.

Cool as that would have been in one sense, it would have robbed us of US-Canada, and somehow if the US had ended up with the Gold, Canadians would have said it was tainted. :r

Ryan Miller and Steve Ott to the Blues for Halak, Stewart and a bag of pucks.
St Louis was scary already, put Miller (who's numbers were very good despite a lousy team in font of him) in the net, they only improve. And Steve Ott adds a lot of toughness, which they already had an abundance of. Gonna be tough for the Hawks to get past.

Moulson is a nice pick up though, especially if they can resign him after this season.
Nice win....in the fact that I think the Avs were out played and got their 2 points. Not sure if it was big win Tuesday and looking at Saturday, but looked flat and out of sorts. Will take the 2 points and move forward. Guess there is something to say for clutching up?

He's out for the season and promise you he won't be back next season. He is garbage. I could score on a wraparound against him. He cannot move side to side anymore, and I haven't even mentioned his sandy female parts. He is made of glass. The minute he "hurt" himself during warmups of the game one against your Hawks, last season, he was done. Lost everybody's respect in this town, including the team. Keumper is quality. Just needed a competent back up for him. Bryz won't see a game in the playoffs unless Keumper gets hurt.

Sorry I get a little fired up on the Backstrom topic. Haven't liked him for two years. Just never plays and is always injured with tiny little things. Like right now. Out for the season with an abdominal injury that we heard about for the first time when they signed the Bryz. I think it's so they don't have to cut him publicly.

Agree, sending good JuJu to Peverly, crazy stuff. Watching that on ESPN this AM gave me chills, could not imagine being on the bench for something like that.
Fell asleep before the end of the Avs game ended. Happy they pulled it out. X2 that it happened in front of Byfuglien, after his hijinx previous game with him and Varlamov. Have I mentioned he rubs me wrong.;). GO AVS!

I don't know if I buy it, too easy to say "what if", what if players didn't have broken ribs and collapsed lungs, what is 'hawk players didn't have f'ed up ankles, what if friggen Jagr could have put a puck in the net. I was more upset with the calls on the ice than anything else, that too many men non-call when the extra man actually played the puck with his stick was enough to cost a lesser man his remote.

I agree. I'm glad Ken Holland didnt ship any of the kids you mentioned for any older vets at the trade deadline. I like the Legwand deal if we can resign him. He seems to be a good fit and didnt cost much. With Dats back they could make a little noise but likely a first round exit. If they can eek out a 6 seed they might have a better chance of advancing by avoiding Boston and the Pens.

They are on fire.... I was in Cancun for a week and they went 4-0, all against teams that would be in the playoffs, if they started today. Not a bad run, now being back in the States, I hope I didn't jinx them for tonight.

Great two games between Bruins and Flyers. though I am far from a Flyers fan that is a team any team with cup aspirations should fear to meet in the play-offs.
Not that you winners care much but If you haven't noticed the Isles have actually looked pretty good considering they are w/o Tavares, Okposo, Grabner, vanek/moulson...they played like 10 rookies in last nights loss. yes, I know it was 4-0 but 5 on 5 we were right in there and playing well.
Garth get us a 1 and 2 goalie or GTFO!!!!
If the Avs can win tonight, the Avs are within 2 points of the Blues(same # of games played) with 3 to go.

Nice win by the Avs :tu if I heard it correctly, the Avs are the best road team in the NHL and 35-0-2 when leading the game going into the 3rd period. Only 2 points from the Blues :noon
Wings need only 1 point to clinch a playoff spot for their 23rd year in a row. I hope they can get at least that 1 point against the Pens tonight. The game tonight is likely a preview of round 1 should everyone stay in the same seeds in the east.
Way to go Minny! Now Avs just have to win....and keep winning, their positioning is in their hands now. (Though tied, getting outplayed in Vancouver)

So I think the outcome of the whole shebang depends on how these blokes perform:
Tuka
Sid the kid
King Hendrik (always fades come playoffs)
Jonathan Quick
Chicago D-men
Carey Price
The Kings playing their own game
Mostly the goalies make or break you. (Ask the Jets)
Kings in the Finals? Now that's rich. ;)
True, not gonna make it past the Blues ;), or the Aves, or even the Ducks.
Not so sure about the Sharks since they have a propensity to choke in the playoffs. :D

I think Fleury is a bigger factor for the playoffs than Sid, and I think he will sh!t his goalie pants by Round 2 again.
Quick is proven, the Kings will win the Jennings. I think secondary scoring will be their biggest unknown.
Agreed on the Hawks D-men, the Blues' game plan will be to dump and hit. Can Keith, Hjallmarsson, Leddy and Oduya take the beatings for 6-7 games? Big question, that and the health of Toews and Kane.
Ask Adam about Rask, his Bruins fan opinion is always entertaining.... :D

Agreed on all points. Health is definitely the issue with Chicago...regardless of of the last 6 games, the Blues will come to win the cup. I am betting that Miller is out for blood, and we will see something really special this playoffs.
Kings have the same problem (different degrees obviously) as Columbus. Sharks have great primary talent, but I don't think they will overwhelm Quick. Who knows, Sharks always find a way to lose the big one. :S
I really like the Aves, much like Tampa, so much momentum and synergy there, but think they are too young to go deep. Obviously would love to be proven wrong.
Rangers shot themselves in the foot with that late trade. Don't they know St. Louis is a #2, not the main attraction? Who is the clear #1 on the Rangers? Nash? Not even playing with Martin. It's like Rangers wanted all rounded players...never seen that really work out other than the legendary millennial Red Wings, except they are pretty much all HoFers. Will the Rangers get their **** together by the time they meet the Penguins? I think not.

I think the Blues will bring it regardless of who is in their line-up, E.J.. Their plan will most likely be "dump and hit" and wear down the 4 smaller D-men for the Hawks. If Kane and Toews are healthy, the Hawks will counter this with speed. I am not over-confident, but I think the Hawks take it in 6 or 7, talking from my head and not my heart.

I'm with Tom. I know overall the Bruins are more physical but your forwards best have their heads up when bringing the puck out of their own zone. All 10 of those videos were the same play.
That said, I'm hoping the young legs the Wings have in the lineup will help generate some speed to offset some of that physical play.

I disagree on Seabrook being a douche, look at 9 years of play and tell me he is a "predatory" player. There are 100 guys in the league more "predatory" than Seabrook (including Mr. David Backes)
He had one skate on the ice when the hit was initiated, only leaving it after the hit was made. I do agree he deserves a suspension as the head was clearly the point of contact, though I was hoping 1 or at most 2 with Seabrook's complete lack of disciplinary history in a 9 year career. My opinion, worth all 2 cents.
Like E.J. said, Hawks are in serious trouble, down 2-0 and with Sheldon Brookbank in the line-up, a 7th D-Man replacing a 1-2. I'll keep the faith like I did against the Wings last year, but they are really going to need there star forwards to step up.....5 of the 6 goals they have scored have been from D-Men, including 2 from Seabrook.

oh and p.s. God...please tell the Lightning to stop being ****ing useless. Amen.
They did get screwed by that "no goal" call. But yes, they need to get their crap together.

Damn Sharks are putting the boots to the kings tonight after going down by 2 goals they have scored 7 unanswered goals. What I really like is Quick is getting exposed for constantly coming out to far. Loved seeing Doughty truck Quick because he was so damn far out. Then watching the kings go after shepard who did nothing wrong. Game 3 will be very interesting.

Sharks beat the Kings physically and mentally, and then stole their girlfriends.

There were a few bad calls in that game, that was bad but there were a couple huge penalties by the Habs that just weren't called, part of me is glad I thought it was only the Bs that got ****ed by the Refs playing the frogs, seems their fairy godmothers look out for them against many teams.

I do not think he is a Douche but that was a douchey hit...and he did leave the ice as he was hiting himmaybe not "before" but defuinately assisted in driving through the point of impact. in this case Backes' head. penalty and suspension I feel fit. and it is doen. I just wish that they could get on board and call this and suspend for it in a fair and consistant manner. Again, I do not see him as a predator but that was a predatory hit as the Hawks were looking to hit Backes any chance they could...because of his history.
Seabrook hit was a nice freakin hit. Pick your head up Backes.
Thought it was unfair for Detroit that the refs interfered between Chara and Smith.

Tony, I can come a lot closer to agreeing with you now. I still don't think Seebs initiated the hit with intent to get the head, but who knows? Hope to see Backes back in there, I don't want to hear any excuses if the Hawks can come back in this series.
Marc...it certainly wasn't unfair for Smith! :lr :bx
They could have used Chara off the ice. You know why they fight.

Oh please marc that was nothing at all, the refs didn't "come between them" Chara laughed till he got a cramp and Smith left a few seconds after pissing himself. I find your comment predatory and douchey at best. :D

Chara (as Jack Palance) to Smith: "I crap bigger than you". ;)

I don't know if any team anywhere gets more leeway from the refs at home than Montreal.

I heard it was Duncan Keith who had a case of diarrhea of the mouth with a classless taunt. Article/Video Link (http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/04/blackhawk-yells-wakey-wakey-to-wobbly-david-backes-nhl/)
Blackhawks aren't acting like champions in this series, IMHO.
1. Quenneville grabbing his crotch
2. Seabrook hit
3. Keith's taunt (if it was in fact Keith...but whoever it was, it was classless)
Starting to lose a little respect for them...The one "heat of the moment" thing I give the guy a pass on is the Seabrook hit. While warranting a suspension, not necessarily an intent to injure. The other two...well, douchebag moves, IMHO.

Listen to what Brendan Morrow (of the Blues) said. Worse things are said than that after every other shift in every NHL game. Fans and media just aren't privvy to it. I have vidoetape of things 100 times worse being said. Reaves, a whining clown who has little business in the NHL, should thicken up his skin if he is going to go around running people and shooting off his mouth every shift. It's the NHL, Boys, not table tennis. Reaves has seaid worse, and so has almost every player on the Blues, Blackhawks and Flyers. I have some great footage of Hartnell and Simmons shooting off their mouths, wish I could post VHS here.
Sorry for the rant, Joel, but Reaves is quite the pu$$y for such a "tough guy", and I really think people are clueless as to what goes on on the ice in an NHL game.

This. I've been a volunteer off-ice official in the CHL and SPHL, working mostly in the penalty box. These guys can get nasty with each other.
Here's a taste of what gets said on the ice (NSFW, language):

Edit: oh, and that clip is relatively tame compared to a lot of stuff that goes on.

I don't disagree that things are said, often worse than this...but (you knew that was coming ;)) the guy obviously had a severe head injury. He couldn't even stand up. I have no problem with verbally berating a guy, give 'em an absolute verbal beat down! But the guy was injured, obviously injured, and that IMHO is time to show some class. If he thought he was faking it or embellishing the severity of it, fine... I'm okay with that. But it sure didn't seem that was the case, again, IMO.
For me, it's about the situation. If you don't agree, http://www.sportspickle.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/quennevilleJ-150x150.jpg :r :r

I have absolutely no problem with what was said in that video, from an on the ice standpoint (don't think they should be walking around Boston talking like that ;)). Obviously he embellished an injury and the Bruins were letting him know they thought it was bush league (in so many words). They should and did rip him a new one!
