I proposed to my girlfriend of 5 years on Saturday on a lake in northern MN. Pretty exciting. Now I have a feeling I'm going to need some advice, serious or comical!

Congrats, Pete!

Just remember to enjoy every moment of your wedding day! I mean, how many times in ones lifetime does he get married? Two, maybe three at the most!? :D

Awesome! Which lake?

I've heard of marriage defined as "betting half your sh*t you will love each other for the rest of your lives."

Read that the other day somewhere on the interwebz, and got a chuckle out of it. :r

You know that quote is staring at me in the face right now! I'm not too worried about losing my half though! :r

We were up at Horseshoe Bay Resort on Leech Lake. Really nice. Been up there quite a bit the last few years.

My pastor described marriage in terms of 3 rings. Engagement ring, wedding ring and finally....the suffering. Joke of course. Celebrating 25 years this year and wouldn't want it any other way.

Congratulations.

Come on Tom be serious, we all know the first time is the most special!

Congrats I hope you have many years of happiness together, just remember Pete, never argue because you won't win, even if you win the argument...you won't win. Yes Dear are the two most important words to remember...no matter what.

So why did you finally pop the question you get tired of having sex?

They say the price you pay for the engagement ring is the smallest possible down payment on the longest possible installment plan.

Lord knows I've paid it twice so far. :D

But the second one was the charm. I'm keeping her. ;)

Good luck and best wishes.

Congratulations, Pete! My new bride and I just walked down the isle in June. Wild ride!

Here's my bit of unsolicited advice: Unless you're having a very small local ceremony, hire a wedding planner. Best money I ever spent, probably EVER. Frankly, I'd like to have a wedding planner available 365. When my then fiancee was having a wedding-related crisis, I'd simply suggest that she call the planner. And she would. Elizabeth would be on the phone for an hour-and-a-half, get off the phone, no more crisis. Simple as that. It's hard to put a price on that, brother. :2

Leech lake, nice. i haven't been there in a LONG time, which is kinda strange as I'm not too far away. but I made the switch to camping. and not the "pull a 36' fifth wheel into a campground with water and electrical" camping. we tent it.

to keep this on topic: Here's a bit of advice, but you probably already know it after a five year relationship. Pay attention, as its 's very important:

You can either be right, or you can be happy.

Married guys will have my back on this one.

Congrats Pete! Best advice I can offer is keep the "D" word out of both of your vocabularies. Otherwise I'd suggest make time. If the noise (TV, activities, sports, etc) get in the way put them aside. She's a better investment of your time. That said it takes two to tango. You both need to make it a priority. I hope you two enjoy spending the rest of your lives together.

Went into my local B&M today and the owner (who knew I was proposing) asked me how it went, congratulated me and then told me to pick out whatever cigar I wanted out of the walk in. It was on the house. I love having an honest quality store that knows how to keep their customers coming back.

Congrats:

May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace.

May your troubles grow few as your blessings increase.

May the saddest day of your future

Be no worse than the happiest day of your past.

May your hands be forever clasped in friendship

And your hearts joined forever in love.

Your lives are very special,

God has touched you in many ways.

May his blessings rest upon you

And fill all your coming days.

Goodfellas in Mahtomedi. In between Stillwater and White Bear Lake. Small lounge, one of the nicest walk ins you will see, and great customer service and treatment.
