View Full Version : Favorite Vitola?

What's your favorite Vitola? Nice, fat 60 ring, or a thin Lancero?
Also, do you find that your favorite cigar has a different taste in different sizes?
One of my milder go- to sticks is a Cusano 18 Paired Maduro. My preference is for the Gordo, followed by the Toro.a I do not really care for the Churchill - find the flavors somewhat diluted or muted. Interesting that it's entirely possible for the size of otherwise identical cigars to have a bearing on the flavor.

Corona and Robusto. When I first started smoking I thought bigger would be better. Now I'm of the opposite opinion.

on any given night...the closer a cigar is to 42 rg x 5 1/8 inches...the better the chance I will smoke it.

Depends on the blend/brand of the cigar for me. ;)

My favorite changes frequently. Depends on the time of day, activity, and mood.

Anything from a TPC with morning coffee to a DC cutting the grass, works. :D

I like the smaller stuff: Petit cetros, Standards (4 3/4 x 39), Marevas and Creamas.

I'm shocked that 2-pages in there's not a single preference for larger ring gauges! I find the larger ring gauges burn cooler and smoother allowing me to smoke much closer to the nub before picking up harshness and pitching. I'd take a 4x60 over a 7x38 in the same brand/blend any day of the week... same smoke time but cooler, smoother, and the ability to smoke much deeper into the stick.

I don't know why but there is something special about lanceros, they seem almost magical. Even though I have had better tasting vitolas, the lancero remains my favorite. This was the case with NCs and holds true now with CCs.

Don't know if I am the only one who feels this way, I never really thought about it before today.

The smaller RG cigars are more difficult to blend, and to roll. The quality of leaf I would think has to be higher all around to get the blend to deliver with fewer leaves. Since they are also harder to roll, I would imagine that only the better torcedors in the factory are rolling them.

So, I would agree with your perception of lanceros, and smaller rg cigars in general.

I would have to say its a tie between a Robusto and a Corona Gorda, though I do always enjoy petit coronas and minutos for cc's

Lancero is by far my favorite, the rest in no particular order: Churchill, Petite Corona, Robusto, Corona Gorda.

Coronas and toros seem to be my favorite sizes. I enjoy a Churchill every now and then, but with the heat and mugginess we're having, I almost hate to spend 2+ hours on the porch during the day.
