View Full Version : Cheap torch with BIG tank?

I'm going on a couple of golf trips this summer. I'm in need of a lighter than can hold enough butane for lighting, relighting, and touching up 3-4 sticks per round for 3-4 guys... probably the equivalent of lighting 20+ sicks on a single tank.

Is there anything out there that can do this in the sub-$15 range? Preferably something from DealExtreme since I'm wanting to order another lighter and some cell phone cases from there also.

I was looking at this one but I'm guessing it might have 1/2 the capacity I need? I like the included punch as well.

Would the above have any more capacity than these which seem to be a known quantity around here? I could pick up 2 of these for the price and have one per cart.

There's always this, but I'd have to pick up a can of fuel after arriving at our destination for one of the two trips for which we're flying:

Any other thoughts/ideas? Thanks!

Pick up 3 of those. Big tank, and easy to monitor when you're running out. Spend the rest on a can of butane.

There is no better lighter for the money than this one (http://dx.com/p/portable-1300-c-stainless-steel-butane-jet-torch-lighter-black-grey-147254?Utm_rid=94204968&Utm_sid=1&Utm_source=affiliate&Utm_medium=dealextreme) IMHO.
I need no other lighters.

Right now I'm leaning towards 3 of the SKU 1320... this way there's one per cart and a backup (along with a couple of Black Ops Kilos, Jetlites, etc in my golf bag) and I can give one to each of my 3 playing partners at the end of the trip.

Roughly how many sticks might we be able to light from a full 1320?

First thing i did with the 1320 is take a dremel to the thing to cut the stupid chain off! :r

So you would like ONE lighter that can handle 20 or so sticks and touch ups if needed with one filling. I know this is not butane and that is an issue but it also fits your needs, not your pocket, but your needs.

but seriously I would suggest something more along the lines of this ... they are bigger than a pocket lighter just for the reason you listed.

2 or 3 of the DX 1320 should handle the 20 sticks + touchups, correct?

Something tells me TSA might question me on the giant Zippo :)

Sounds like a plan... I have a couple of the "mini" version from Meritline, just never had a herf-on-the-go reason to get the bigger one. Having three for the trip and then giving one to each of my playing partners at the end will be a nice touch.

I've got until July for the trip where we're flying. Our trip next weekend we'll be driving so I can just take my two Black Ops Kilos and a can of King Butane along... there will only be 2 of us smoking on that trip anyway, and only 1 round of golf.

Best deal anywhere, been using one for 3 years, works great in the wind, will light anything made and holds enough fuel for a couple of months regular use. Only negative is the throttle valve is not the greatest of precision instruments. Bright orange so hard to misplace. All for under $10!

Other good choices are Ronson Jet Lite for under $4 at Walmart and the Blazers for around $35 which are high quality. Jet Lite has a lower fuel capacity which might prove a negative for your needs but hell just take 2 or 3 of them to make sure you don't run out.

You can go to lowe's hardware and grab an auto ignition torch that accepts the entire can on ronson or BernzOmatic fuel... IDK if you can find any that accept other brands of butane though.

Ordered 5 of these last year (about 8 months ago), finally had the first one break 3 days ago. Best $3 I spent!

Adjustable flame, not too large to carry in a pocket, holds huge amounts of fuel, and lasts longer than my Xikar ever could.

I didn't check the above links but I suspect this (see pics below) is one of the lighters linked. I have a couple of em for a couple of years. The tank is huge and estimate about 30 cigars can be lit from a a single full tank. Also, the single jet flame on this lighter is the strongest single flame lighter I've encountered. I have/had apprx 40 torch lighters from cheap (like this) to more moderately priced like blazer, xikar and lotus an the flame on this cheapie is one of the best I've had.

I mostly use it as home lighter because it can't tail stand (unless you use the rubber base) and its rather large for a pocket lighter. The other cool features are that you stop the lighter from lighting by twisting the collar under the ignition to the off position and you can use the lighter as an actual torch by locking the flame on for longer term use...would make a good survival/camping lighter with the large fuel tank and torch function.

That's the one Ken! So steady and reliable for less than $3.00

Pretty sure I'm going to go with a handful of the DX 1302. I can have one per cart and a backup and then give one each to the other players in my group at the end of the trip as a gift... they don't need to know it's a $3 Chinese lighter :)

I'll probably go ahead and order 5 in case 1 or 2 don't work out of the box... if I end up w/ 4 out of 5 working then everyone gets one and I have one left to keep stashed in my golf bag for future use without having to remember to refuel before/after every round.

Agreed. It's a whole lot of lighter for the money.

I got a few of those. One in the shop one on the back patio under grill. One in the garage. I have had good luck with these. I lost my blazer and don't feel like paying $40 for something I misplace all e time, so I stick to Wally World Ronsons for my walk around lighter.

Any interest in group buy of "jetline triple flame pocket torch".

I can pick up 20 for about $150. So about $7.50 each plus shipping? I'd keep 2, so 18 available. LMK.
