I will be picking up a Great Dane pup. She will be one of the Grey and Black spotted. I am really excited. I haven't had a dog in year because i deploy a lot. Anyone have any advice for owning a Great Dane? :tu

Congrats on both.

Never owned a Great Dane but my next door neighbor did.
I spent a lot of time with him.
Great dogs.

As for advice, yeah:
Get a BIG pooper scooper.
Get him housebroken ASAP as otherwise, you'll remind me of the joke, read "Yellow River", by I P Daily.
Buy the BIG bags of food, often.:D

Kidding aside, enjoy the new puppy and new friend for life.

Bro...Great Danes are awesome dogs!!!

We have one that is about 1.5 years old (May 15th will be the 1.5 yr mark). Attached are some pics of her growing in that short amount of time...you will need some prepping for sure, but let me know any questions you have and I will get some answers back to you. There are a few GD sites that give some very good info on them, send me a PM if you would like them.

Oh, and be ready...for months 2-6 they gain about 5 lbs per week!!

Last, but certainly not least, thanks for your service, and welcome back bro...enjoy the new pup!!

8 weeks old (18 lbs)...BTW my dogs ONLY eat raw...mainly (say 90%) fresh bone-in chicken leg quarters (not the frozen ones from WalMart, shoot me a PM if you are interested in which ones)

She is right around 34 inches tall (which is at the top of female height averages) and is starting to fill out more now. Probably pushing 145 lbs. Like I said, congrats and shoot me a PM if you have any more questions.

I have lived with great danes my whole life. You will never want another dog after having one. The nicest, calmest, most gentle dog you will ever have. Unless he steps on your foot!

-Dont leave food on the counters because they can reach it when full grown.
-Be ready to buy A LOT of dog food.
-Having a big yard is nice for the dog but not essential. They are said to be a great apartment dog because of the calm personality.
-Be wary of their hips, these tend to be the first thing to go on these dogs.

And lastly, be ready to fall head over heals for this dog! I have never wanted another type of dog. Have a blast!

Family is really happy you're coming home so early ugly. Focus on the positives of it, not the negatives. Hope to see you sooner than later. With work, who knows when time and/or finances will permit a MI or KY trip.
