I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords!

(Also - robots of the future when the singularity occurs - remember this statement and don't crush me, please)

Yah I'm more concerned about the DHS buying over 1.5 billion rounds of ammunition. I suppose you have to have plenty on hand if you declare marshal law or maybe they just want to be able to out gun local law enforcement agencies. lol

The nationwide shortage of ammunition has left many police departments scrambling to get their hands on the necessary rounds - with some even bartering among each other ...[Meanwhile] the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has failed to respond to multiple members of Congress asking why DHS bought more than 1.6 billion rounds in the past year. Police Chief Cameron Arthur of Jenks, Oklahoma says, "Ammunition and assault weapons in general have skyrocketed...In addition to the fact, not only is it a lot more expensive, but the time to get it could be six months to a year, or in some cases even longer."

Just add a 20mm Vulcan chain gun to the Hippo type robot and you be in business huh!?!

And, with the apparent and gradual implementation of "drones" in the US airspace (yes, I've actually seen them here in the Valencia area), we have a just so wonderful growing police and military State...

Really? I'm far more concerned about technology than dhs buying ammo.

Maybe. But they could also have ways to defend against things like that.

Machines can be stopped easier than a bunch of trigger happy DHS agents, plus the agents have the rounds right now. What did 'they' say that within 7 years there could be as many as 30,000 drones flying over the US monitoring .....us.

So no matter how you looked at it we boned.

Trigger happy? LOL 30,000 drones in 7 years? 4200 manufactured a year?

And No they don't have those rounds in hand. That's a contract with a delivery time lime, it is'nt as if 1.5 million rounds were dropped off at HQ one day. You are talking about a department with around 50,000 armed agents. All of which have a requirement to fire X number of rounds X number of times a year to qualify. Waste money when every agency buys ammo in small amounts at increased cost, complain. Group order to get a discount with bulk order, complain or run to the hills afraid. How about trying to understand how your government works before being afraid of it's actions?

/now back to our regularly scheduled hilarity

I have been following many of these robots for years, since watching Asimo's development. Very interesting stuff.
Boston Dynamics has some very impressive machines on Youtube, looks like most are in the OP vid.

I am waiting for my Skynet employee badge to show up.

These (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8bqzjZvSmc) little guys are so funny when they fall and get back up.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuC6q9kbryw) is some pretty amazing programing.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQA0m8H5W_M) one is a little disturbing.

What's even scarier? In 20 years tops, things will be so advanced, the bots in post #1 we are amazed at now, will actually be considered clumsy bumbling and laughable. I heard about the DHS this morning, and with the report was a statement that DOD are now working on "mosquito drones" that could follow you around all day.

Colleges are offering Bachelors of Science in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Science. Seems the future of aviation will be unmanned. It's really almost there I guess.
