I cannot get on many websites here at school. They block most sites that contain anything w/ tobacco and alcohol on them. Is there a program I can get do get around this? Several of my students say they have a website they go to in order to get around this. They won't tell me, b/c they think that as a teacher I will inform the administration about their actions. It sucks that I can't check my C-bid account from school.

Yea, I had to deal with this when I was in high school. You need a proxy server. If proxy websites aren't blocked at school, I used this one: http://www.hidemyass.com/ If they are, you're going to have to do a remote connection to a computer at home.

Then you are remoting into your home system.

less nefarious than a proxy server.

You might have to ask yourself if it might be worth your job if someone gets a wild hair. The world is full of idiots, fools, and jackasses, and chances are good that one of them is in one of those IT positions and wouldn't give two shakes about you and try to enforce the rules with no compassion for you.

You'll need to set up a remote desktop connection if you have a computer at home. Since this is feature of Windows, most places don't think to block it.

Here's some info on that: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspx

Get an iPhone...

I think this may be the best advice here, if you want to check at work. Heck, most of us change phones fairly often, and the smart phones are getting pretty incredible, as well as the data plans will come down in cost I think fairly soon.

...and to check mutliple e-mail account, surf the web (including CA), yelp for restaurants, listen to tunes and pod casts, facebook, play the harmonica, shazam songs that you can't remember the name of, post photos to various hosting sites, play craps, play hearts, etc..

I hear you can also make phone calls on the thing.

secure-tunnel is another site.... But as an IT type guy.... They track and block them as they are found out, and as others noted - what is the school EULA on visiting or trying to cirumvent the firewall?

It may be nothing, it may be severe. Maybe the safe thing to do is to just check it at home.

Thanks guys, for all the assistance.:tu
