I was just thinking that through all the years I've spent on the Big Ash porch with my cigars Ive had the blessing of my hobby from my wife. While I can't smoke in the house, she has never discouraged me from smoking my gars. In fact, there have been plenty of times she's suggested that I go and spend time either on the porch or at my B&M. She's never made to big a fuss at the money I spend on them. I kinda think she enjoys the idea of a man and his cigar rather than just tolerating it. So here's to the wives of BOTL.
May they allow us to fill up the humidor ever full.

Amen! I think most of middle-agers would rather spend the evening at our homes enjoying a great, relaxing smoke than anything else. It's always nice to have a buddy or two over to help enjoy the time with, also.

I've been lucky enough to have a lady who enjoys smoking cigars with me. She supports me in purchases, never discourages. She has helped with major purchases, even with the humidor that I had custom made by Ed of Waxing Moon Humidors. We share our cigars, and she knows the value of my HTFs so she never would smoke one without permission or without me for that matter, and the same goes for me to her sticks. There isn't an HTF or CC that I've smoked without her taking some in as well. Kinda nice now that I think of it :)
Cheers SOTLs!

Very lucky that mama enjoys the aroma of a good cigar and has no problem with my smoking in the house. I do, however, smoke in my "room" that has a fan at the window to expel the smoke, and I use candles in the room as well. So, unless there is a gale blowing that turns the fan blades so that the smoke is pushed further in the house, one can barely tell there is a stogie smoker therein.
Nonetheless and even so, mama approves!
my wife bought me a box of monte pe and a box of oliva v maduro 2012 as present,

I kept it from my wife for a long time. As I eased her into the idea and educated her on cigars she is very supportive. Often on Friday after work she will ask if we can go to the local shop so I can get something. She likes the smells and will ask if I need any cigars.

My wife tolerates it. She isn't a fan of my smoking cigars, and hates the taste of it in my mouth when we kiss. However, she also realizes they are a stress management tool, and therefore tolerates, and sometimes will say, "do you need to go off and have a cigar and a beer?"

My wife doesnt mind that i smoke at all as long as its not in the car or house. Both of which i can deal with as i wouldnt smoke in the house anyway. She even approved me buying my cabinet humidor knowing full well i would be on a never ending quest to fill it. Hell when she visits family in Richmond and im not there with her she stops by my old hang out at Winstons Humidor says hi to everyone and buys me some smokes. Cant beat that.

I smoked an occasional cigar; like 1-2 a year occasional. Then my wife and I were stationed in Europe and had access to CCs. She'd be out and around and pick up a couple for me to try. That got me going down my current path. Now on the rare occasion she complains about one of my purchases I tell her it's her fault I have this hobby. :) When she has to travel on business if she sees a B&M and has some time she'll stop in, tell the guy some of the cigars I like and ask for one similar so she can bring me back something new to try.

My girlfriend (soon to be fiance) tolerates it also. While she isn't a fan, she absolutely hated when I chewed so when I started smoking cigars more frequently she wasn't thrilled, but it helped me kick my chewing habit. Funny this is she secretly likes the aroma. Now that Winter is here I just go out to the lake and smoke a couple in the ice house to get my fix.

I am fortunate to have a wife that likes to smoke with me also. Although she has never told me to not buy something, now that I have four coolidors and two desk tops full, she asks if I "Need" them. I think that she knows that she will reap the benefits of smoking with me. One of the best gifts I ever got was her admission that a fight we had was her fault and the apology came with about $25 worth of smokes. That was a double win for me!

My wife doesn't smoke with me, but she will try a puff of mine every now and then. We've been together 8 years, and she's been fully supportive of my cigar passion since the beginning. If she's out shopping, and passes by my local B&M(Emersons, Hampton, Va), she'll stop in and pick up a VSG or a Padron '64 for me(the two she can remember I like). I'm thankful to have her, and everyday is better than the last. :D

My wife not only hates the smell and has never found one that had a smell she liked, she is also very allergic to cigarette and cigar smoke. I thought the whole allergy thing was a joke until one night we were in a casino when we got back to the room I saw a ton of raised whelps on her chest and back. When I inquired she said, "I told you I'm allergic to the smoke. That's what happens".
Now with all that said, she is very supportive. We have ground rules. No smoking in the hosue, no smoking on days we are going out in the evening, I don't expect a kiss after we have been smoking, and I shower before going to bed. I abide by these rules she totally supports the hobby often buying me smokes, encouraging me going to the local shop and even suggests on nice days that I should smoke a cigar on the porch cause "its nice out" just incase I haven't already thought of it.
I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife will probably never smoke or enjoy the hobby with me but she is super supportive what more can I ask for!

My wife is not a fan of cigars, or smoking in general, and I don't blame her. That said, she has never tried to tell me what to do. She knows I enjoy it, and she allows me my guilty pleasures.
I have a 3rd bedroom that I have set up as my man room. 2 leather rocker recliners, my TV, laptop, PS3, etc... this room has the exhaust vent for our whole-house fan. I smoke in this room and you can't even tell thanks to the fan and the smoker cloaker.

My wife smoked cigarettes for years and we'd sit on the deck at night and smoke together, until the bugs would run her back inside. :r
She quit almost a year ago and I couldn't be more proud of her. She always did and still does comment on ones she thinks smell good. She has a nose for the good ones.

I hid my cigar hobby from my girlfriend for awhile, only smoking when I was not around her. One day she saw my coolidors and asked why I had all these coolers in my basement and then I had to tell her. I didn't want her to think I was hiding bodies or something.
So when we moved to Dublin last June and I discovered JJ Fox I would grab a cigar almost every day and that's when she found out. After initially saying that it was a gross habit she has come to understand that there is a large difference between cigarettes and cigars and she has become a lot more understanding. When we were in Cuba in December she even started to sit out with me while I was smoking. She's come to understand that it's a hobby that I am passionate about and that it brings me happiness.
I'm driving her and my mother around Niagara on the Lake all afternoon for wine tastings, so she got me a groupon deal at the B&M there so I could grab a couple of sticks to smoke while they are doing their tastings.

My right hand has been very supportive of my cigars. :)
My wife knew i would smoke a cigar every now and then, i even bought a small humi (50 ct never had more than 5 sticks in it) but 3 years ago when moving to our new house a lot of stuff got throw away with that stuff went my humi. I didnt miss it, but after 3 years of not smoking (3 months ago) my wife decides to surprise me with a 10 pk sampler, i told told her you know what this means right and she replied "yeah yeah, you can buy a humi for them". I bought a 150-200 ct cabinet, and this past Sunday she smoked her very first stick with me (Tabak Dulce)!!

My wife's not fond of me smoking cigars, and I definitely am not allowed to do it in the house, but I do have hope of slowly bringing her around. Our last trip out of town we went to a B&M with a little better selection than I have at home & she helped me pick out some new sticks. I even have a little Acid Blondie put back I'm hoping to convince her to try. We'll see...

My wife's actually pretty cool about me smoking cigars; I think she'd have a harder time with me smoking cigarettes (as would I -- I can't really take the smell of cigarettes). Her dad was -- still is -- an avid cigar smoker, and she said that my smoking them reminds her of her dad having one now and then.
Last night she mentioned that "...we'll have to get a couple of fans and some kind of set up out in the garage for you for when the bad weather comes this winter." Completely unprompted on my part. I'm lucky. :D

My wife's views have changed a lot. When I first started she didn't even know. When she found out she was "ok" with it. Now she brings me home little bags of cigars and we make a bi-weekly trip to a cigar store so she can help me pick out something. She just realized I guess how much I enjoy this. Very lucky guy.

I've been puffing for 35 years, now - though I blushingly admit to having started with El Cheapo's (Swishers) until a customer converted me to the good sticks.
At first, the Mrs. objected - couldn't deal with the 'stench' from them, so I had to take them outdoors. Bit of a problem, as I live in PA, where it DOES get a mite cold in winter. Fortunately, that banishment ended when her employer's office complex went smoke-free and SHE had to step out for a cigarette.
Though I was now allowed a cigar (once weekly) indoors, during inclement months, she never tried one - no matter how many times I offered.
Then, in 1998, we "won" this free Florida/Bahamas vacation trip. Had to look at time-shares, and wound up buying one in Kissimmee that backs onto Disney property. But, then we went to Freeport. Checked into our hotel and wandered next door to a big collection of shops, amongst which I found a cigar shop. Having never had a Cuban cigar, I grabbed a small handful to last the 3 days we were to be there. I guess the 'novelty' of smoking a Cuban got to the Mrs., as she cadged a few puffs off of my after-dinner RyJ that night, and (catch me, I'm fainting!) commented that the taste and the aroma weren't bad, at all!
Next morning, though, we discovered that Hurricane Georges (which they had expected to cruise into the Gulf) had taken a northerly turn and was barreling down on the Bahamas. Needless to say, the cruise ships were full to capacity that afternoon, heading back to Ft. Lauderdale - and me with 4 Cubans left to deal with. We managed to find a table on the fantail (for those of you who don't know, it's as far 'downwind' as one can get, on a ship, which is where they typically put the "smoking" tables) and sat down, each of us lighting an RyJ corona. (I sold the other two, at slight profit, to another couple, at the next table over.) The Mrs. puffed hers until it was only about a 1.5 inch stub, and then tossed it overboard. And then, as she was looking a little pensive, I asked her what she was thinking. She told me that she was looking back over all those times I'd invited her to smoke with me, and she'd turned me down.
That apparently broke the ice, for her. I tend to smoke 3 or 4 a week, and she's not quite at that point, yet. But on Friday or Saturday night she'll join me for one. I'll make lattes, and we sit and unwind and chat about our weeks. In the summers, that usually takes place in the hot-tub end of our pool. And, on our annual trip to Florida, we always stop at JR's and browse the humidor. Last time, we each walked out of there with a couple boxes apiece of our favorite smokes.
This past April, for my 60th birthday, she surprised me with a 3500-stick capacity tower humidor from an online discounter (Cheap Humidors) to replace a home-built unit that was beginning to fail. We also went out to dinner at Leaf Cigar Bar & Restaurant in Exton, PA. It was a 2-hour drive, but the meal and atmosphere was worth it. We invited my guitar teacher (a fellow aficionado) and his wife to go along. And it was MY wife who persuaded HIS wife to try HER first cigar. (A mocha "Flavours" from CAO.
And, yes, she loved it.)
Just last weekend, we had that couple over for swimming and a cook-out, and then broke out the cigars as twilight descended. Mid-way through the chatting in the hot-tub, the ladies started asking when we were going to take another trip to Leaf.
I'll sort of apologize for such a lengthy post, but a wife like mine is worth bragging on, at least in my opinion!

This is about where I stand as well. My wife knows and appreciates that I go out with the guys and have a few cigars on Monday nights. She does not like how I smell, but also knows that it is how I manage the stress of my job, in order to provide for our family, so she doesn't say much.

I had always thought my wife was more-or-less indifferent. She doesn't care for the smell of smoke or the way I smell afterwards, but she's never had a problem with me smoking either. Then, much to my surprise, she presented me with a very nice 50-stick leather-wrapped humidor with an engraved plaque reading "You light up my life. Scott you are a lucky man. My (newly made) fiance is not happy when ever I smoke a cigar. I recently went down to a .8 position at my work and have a good possibility of getting one day a week at my local B&M. Evem though it will bring in extra money she still isn't happy about it. She's a nurse and it's mostly the health risks which I can understand. I'm trying to get her to understand that it's something other than golf, alcohol, and BBQ'ing that truly makes me happy.

Well, my wife tried her first cigar tonight, a Acid Blondie single pack that the local Speedways have started selling. She wasn't really that fond of it, said it tasted like stale coffee with creamer. I'm still hopeful of finding something she'll like, maybe something with some chocolate notes.

There are plenty of things my wife busts my balls about. Cigars are not one of them. Thank God. I won't go so far as to say she encourages my cigar hobby, but she doesn't give me a bad time about it, which is a joy. I am grateful for that.
I try not to make it a pain in her ass tho: I don't smoke too often, I don't have a massive walk-in humidor, I don't spend all of our money on cigars. And I rarely smoke indoors. On occasions when I do, I make every effort to clear the smoke out. My dream of dreams is to someday have a cigar room complete with a top-of-the-line air filtration system. But until that day arrives, I'll continue to enjoy 99.9% of my cigars outdoors.
You know what they say, "happy wife, happy life."

I actually was dicussing this with my fiance the other day. When we build a house eventually I want a smoking lounge/office area.
My better half though is supportive of my habit. She says if it makes me happy and does not bother others, then have at it. That probably stems from the fact that she enjoys partaking in a cigar from time to time. In fact, she was the one who got me my first cigar, a Montecristo Rothchilde, while we on vacation in Miami...not even going to mention house much she overspent on that, haha! LOL.... this brought up old memories and a very LONG discussion one evening..
I have smoked for approx. 10 yrs, and very much enjoy a nice cigar on a regular basis...
My wonderful wife, has been supportive (uh for years anyway), and even tried a few here and there, bless her heart..
She has seen me start out with a very small humidor holding a few cigars to my collection of today with over 50 boxes and many singles in a Aristocrat Cabinet Humidor....
I would get the occasional question when a new box came in... "how much was that" and was always the answer " caught it on sale for like $40" or some other lame excuse. I used to get a bit annoyed.. I mean , I own a business, pay my fair share of bills, and we each buy our own things, I mean I never asked how much a pair of her shoes were.. But Honesty is much better in a 20+ year marriage , trust me.. More on that below...
Ok, I will try to shorten this up...
My wife works for a large restaurant company, she is a accounting supervisor.. Anyway, they have a few very Nice upper end Steak Houses.. With which we get a nice discount at, so do like to eat there a time or 2.. One one in particular has a very nice cigar lounge, where they sell cigars, and you can enjoy them... And she has always encouraged me to go sit after a meal. Anyway, she was taking me a few years ago for my 45th b-day for a nice steak dinner....
what I did NOT know, (being the awesome wife she is), she contacted the GM of the steak house, and let him know, she wanted to buy me some cigars for my b-day. asked what I liked, and she of course did not know.. So he said to get a few different ones and bring them by the office or the restaurant and he would see if they had in stock, or he could order for her..
Well she got into my humidor, opened some boxes (I found this out later in our discussion), and decided to take 2 cigars out from boxes I only had a couple left in, so she was going to buy me a box of one of them...
Ok, remember the $40 a box I used to say....
Well when she went by the restaurant with the 2 to show him, to buy a box..
He said..
"-----" (wifes name), this one here, you CANNOT get, trust me, take it home and put back and don't ask questions....
on the second he tells her, Uh, we sell the singles, but I can order you a box for about $300
first one I cannot name
2nd was a opusX lost city
Needless to say, as pissed as she was, I did get a few cigars, but not a box..
Im sure you can imagine the LONG discussion we had DURING dinner, and the slight smile I got from the GM that came by and wished me a happy b-day..

My bride is too good to me. When I mentioned the potential FDA issues last fall she said "You better stock up."
She didn't have to tell me twice. I filled 5 new coolers and she said, "you better get more just in case.":tu

MY wife is very supportive of my hobby! She is always wanting to surprise with cigars, but always has to ask me which ones I like! She insists at least twice a week that I go out and enjoy a cigar. Sometimes more than that. She enjoys smelling my cigars before I light them, as do my kids. She isn't a partaker, however over the years she enjoys the smell of them burning more than she used to.
She also likes bringing me snacks or drinks when I am out there. Of course now that it is winter I have to go inside to get them, but she still has them ready!
She was even cool when I started removing shelves and whatnot from our shed so I would have a place to smoke this winter. A supportive spouse is definitely a blessing. I don't know how I could enjoy cigars like I do if my wife was opposed to it.

My wife was a little miffed when I first came home with a 5 pack sampler from JR's. Wanted to know what brought this on. She would open the door, look out on the porch at me and my new "hobby" and just shake her head and close the door.
I was shocked today when I stopped in one of the local B & M's and the wife wanted to go in with me. She said the odor was overpowering when we first walked in, but before long she was picking up various sticks asking "is this a good one?"
As I was paying for my purchase, she was looking at a floor model humidor. I currently have a 50 count desktop, that is filling quickly. I told that it would make a very nice Valentines gift.

If you mean "divorced" THAT'S ME! Been a bachelor for the past ten years, and I never have to worry about enjoying a smoke.
A few years back I had a relationship actually end because it progressed to the point where it made sense for her to move in. She knew I was a cigar smoker and knew I smoked in my condo; had been over countless times when I had, in fact! But for some reason she thought that was going to change when she moved in. We went round and round for weeks, and in the end, we broke off the relationship. I remember her screaming she couldn't believe I was choosing my precious cigars over her. I replied it wasn't about the cigars, it was about the assumption that she would change me. I'm not opposed to compromise, but there was not of that. It still makes a little sad to think about, but in the end, I have to believe it was for the better.

Exactly, Grape.
My ex once asked me, "If I asked you to choose your job or me, which would you choose?"
Without hesitation, I said "the job."
When she asked how could that be, I replied "Because if you loved me, you'd never ask me to make that choice".

This is why A) Divorces are so expensive and 2) Aristocrats have locks.

I got interested in cigars several years ago listening to "The Cigar Dave Show" on XM radio when I regularly worked weekends. I finally pulled the trigger a year ago and bought a desktop humidor. That didn't exactly go over well. The usual stuff, she has asthma, no I don't intend to ever smoke in the house. Smoking causes cancer. Cigars vs cigarettes.
After about three weeks to season, I bought a sampler. Some I liked and some I didn't, so I bought more and visited my B&M for recommendations. Then I saw the winador threads and found a wine cooler on Craigs List and have to fought to keep things under control since.
Through it all, my wife has made an amazing transformation. Initially she was openly hostile, then somewhat mocking. I kept to my word. I never smoke in the house and usually only have time for one or two during the week if I finish my run early (I'm an over the road truck driver, so I'm gone all week), and usually one on Saturday with a beer after I finish cutting the grass as my "reward". About July, she began joining me on the porch, and this fall and early December when we had a few warm weekends, she suggested I take advantage of the moderate temps and have a smoke.
Come Christmas time, she mentioned the kids asking what I might like for Christmas. I sent her links for a Xikar cutter and punch. The kids got me gift cards, she got me the Xikar!
A few weeks ago, I was thumbing through the latest Cigar.com catalog and she asked me if I saw anything I liked. I told her plenty, but many of them way out of my budget. I then dog-eared some pages and marked some samplers and fivers under $50 and told her if anyone was looking to get me a modest gift that I had marked a few things. Last night before dinner, she handed me a box. When I opened it, it contained a Brick House Mighty Mighty Sampler. I was totally blown away. I know it's not a Lost City, but I had gotten a Brick House in a sample pack and liked it enough that I was interested in trying others in the line.
All I can say is what an amazing woman. She puts up with a lot because of me being gone all week, and now this. I've always told people that I picked better the second time, and I realize that is more true each and every day.
