We've all seen the "what's the best" polls before, so I figured I'd post a what's the worst maker of handmade cigars. I mean ones that you've tried a few different ones and you wouldn't smoke one on a bet now.

It was going to be a tough decision until I saw Thompson's house blends.
Some of the others are bland and tasteless, but the house blends reek.

My worst was an Old Henry from Holts. I bought a 5er and they reeked of ammonia more than any other cigar I've ever had the displeasure of smoking. I know they have their fans and it was probably just a bad batch. But, the memory is so strong I will never touch them again. (I like many other DPG sticks)

I had a pretty poor Nat Sherman, but that might not have been the cigars fault, could have been the conditions of storage. I have had a few of the TC house blends, yuck!

I tossed a highly rated Liga Privda but it wasn't the worst I've had. I just don't remember the worst. A Gurkha Ancient Warrior was flavorless but that's not the worst a cigar can be. The fishy, sour milk of a Tamboril is pretty bad.

I don't know; there's a lord's plenty of bad cigars out there. Once you go below a certain level, it's just worsening degrees of awful.

I had a few unfortunate puffs of a Puros Indios once. Once. Not the very worst, but damn close.

Any Gurkha fits the bill, IMO. But especially any of the ones called "double" anything.

I had a Camacho at the Big Smoke in Vegas in '05, and it was so dry it literally fell apart in my hand while I smoked it; the fault lay with whatever rep brought them to the show to give away and didn't sample them nor do any QC.

Many more but, thankfully, I can't recall. Not too many, though; I mainly stick with good brands.

I'm in the Puros Indios camp as well. Got one in a brown bag sampler from CI and thought I was smoking bundled up newspaper. The Morro Castle that was thrown in there wasnt much better either. When price is put into consideration, the worst handmade i've ever had is the Opus X no.5. The only cigar I ever chucked twice because it was unsmokable not for construction reasons, but because the taste was so unbearable. The first third is nothing but PEPPER that burns your palate and makes your eyes water. Then it progresses into F-YOU, HAVE SOME MORE PEPPER and after 30 minutes I can't get past them. Even with a whole 2 years of age they didn't mellow out. Felt so jipped that I spent $12 a piece for something I couldn't even stomach.

1876 Reserve and a couple of other brands CI tends to describe as a $2 stick that you'd think was the deal of a century. I think CI just preys on noobs trying to get bang for their buck when they get into the hobby.

The worst cigar I've ever had was smoked a week ago at my retirement party. My brother-in-law had brought back some glass-box "Cuban" Cohibas from Cozumel while on a cruise. He's not a smoker so I didn't have the heart to tell him he'd picked up fakes. He meant well so I'm glad he wasn't around when I lit it, gagged, and tossed it into the ashtray.

Need to be careful even lighting those, we dissected one a couple years back that had quite a few non-organic substances in them (plastic, string..)

Anything, and I mean anything, by Pacific Cigar Co.. I smoked one to take a hit for the team this weekend, and man, it was so bitter it tasted like smoking fresh dandelion stems and piss. Probably one of the worst cigars Ive ever had out of thousands.

But for the sake of the list, Im gonna have to go with Thompsons hand rolled.

This. But it's not just CI; if you believe any of the flowery descriptions you read in the Holts' catalog or on Famous' site about their el cheapo "deals," you're falling into their trap.

For the maximum expression of this phenomenon I heartily recommend the El Mejor lines from CI. They're the very finest in dyed garbage sticks anywhere.

Felipe Gregorio - Had a box of small perfectos a number of years ago that weren't bad at all - White bands, maybe?

Augusto Reyes - Was a time when I really enjoyed one of these - I think they had a blue band -- really creamy

Victor Sinclair - I'd bet the Primeros would do surprisingly well in blind taste test among connie lovers. And for small smokes, the old Triple Corojo 4x40's were pretty decent. I still smoke the miniature 55 reds on the way to work. Darn good value small smoke at auction prices.

Rolando Reyes - Been many years, but I've had a few Aliados that weren't bad at all. And, hard to question whether Rolando left his mark on the industry. RIP

Any Thompson's House Blend - Was given one by a stranger at a bar in Raleigh a few years ago. I'm reluctant to pass judgement on only one cigar, but I will acknowledge that I never sought out another. But, you know, that first one wasn't half bad enjoyed in the spirit of the brotherhood. We shared a couple Tats afterward that were better, but the experience was greater than the cigars.

I must be getting old. I used to not mind threads bashing entire lines. Smoke what you like, brothers. Someone's buying from these makers. Why bash 'em?

I have to say I don't understand this at all. I understand taste is subjective, but Rolando Reyes has pumped out some REALLY good cigar lines. Cuba Aliados, Puros Indios (Viejo is my favorite), Siembra de Oro...If you have only smoked one, try again. These are my favorite cheap cigar.
