Interesting thought about the hash marks being kills. I just figured they indicated the Governor had snapped.

Michone might be on to something with the guts all over her

If you remember, Rick and Glenn pulled off blending in w/zombies by using guts in the first season. And I definitely think the phone calls were self-therapeutic.
And yeah, Andrea is a hoe-bag, but I wouldn't kick her outta bed -(P

I wonder if Merle will end up taking out Daryl... Or if Daryl will take out or Glen or abuse Maggie...
And can anyone tell me what the significance of hershells other daughter is to the group? Other then running away in the background or stiring a pot in the foreground she hasn't contributed much to this ride... I have been waiting for something to happen to her since the start of the season...

Great episode last night, was hoping with Andrea jumping over the wall and showing how it's done would bring her back to her kickass self, but no she got horny and goes for a Liam Neeson look alike....sigh
I was glad to see Carol back, did you see how upset Darryl was before he opened that door, he was expecting a zombie Carol and he had to get pumped up for it.
Great backstory on Darryl's mom and we got the truth out of Carol that he did in fact shoot Lori
The phone call was CREEPY man, the background noises....good stuff.
Imagine being Ricks shows and seeing Michonne standing there among the zombies....that was pretty awesome.

If by next week, you mean December 2, that's correct. According to WetPaint Entertainment website (http://www.wetpaint.com/network/articles/when-will-the-walking-dead-season-3-return-after-the-midseason-finale):
Season 3 has 16 (episodes), with the first eight finishing up on Sunday, December 2 with Episode 8, "Made to Suffer."
That's the midseason finale. Then we take a break for a couple of cold months, only to return in February 2013. An exact start date has yet to be released.
The episode title alone has cliffhanger written all over it!

Wow... Guess I am the first one to write on tonight's episode... Meh...
Aside from Glenn showing he is a bad ass... and Maggie taking off her top... there wasn't much of a WOW factor in this last episode... I feel like they were simply using it to coast to the next episode when they finally assault Gov-Town, which we all saw coming...
Unfortunately I have to say I thought the Trailer for the "mid" season finale was more exciting then this entire episode... We saw from the brief clips that Andrea-the-hoe-bag will be siding with Gov-Town... But they also eluded to Daryl wanting to leave his brother unharmed, which I don't see as possible... We also saw the team being fired at from the Gov-Town wall, Casualties? Guess we will find out...
Also, I'd like to rant for a moment about the idea of a "mid season finale"... WHOEVER THOUGHT THIS UP DESERVES A SWIFT KICK IN THE SACK! 8 episodes and a break?... without going to another show? If they were to throw Breaking Bad's next half a season in between I would totally be OK with it... But to go right back into the same series just seems like they are wasting my time and not giving me anything to watch for 6 weeks, while risking me losing interest in their programming... :2

I think this episode was a bit slow because they were setting up for the mid-season climax.
The one good thing about the 8-10 week break is that instead of getting 16 shows and then waiting 36 weeks for the next season, we only have to wait 26 weeks for the next season to start. Ok, small consolation, but I am trying to look for a silver lining.
Next week should be epic.

I'm ready to kill the governor. But what will happen to the town if they do kill him? Does everyone revolt or do they accept Rick as the new leader?
When the governor had Maggie take off her top I was really hoping Glenn was going to come busting through the door and killing him. Maggie needed to understand that they are both going to get killed so giving up the information was dumb.

I can't see the writers spending all of this time developing his character as such a slime-ball to simply have him killed off at the mid-season finale. I think they will more than likely draw out this attack for the 2nd half of the season.
Having said that, I think that this town is so wrapped up in the safety that the Governor has set up, that there is no way they embrace Rick. They walk around comfortably, without concern of attack from walkers, that any threat to that comfort would be met with anger.
I do hope you're right, and that the settle some things next week, but when have the writers done that for us????

Glenn has really shown his loyalty to the group and last night he went up a little higher in my book of fav characters.
In a sick twisted kind of way I was really rooting for the gov to rape Maggie, I was kinda let down that he didn't just because it seemed he chickened out to me.....I know it's wrong to think that way, but I was expecting more out of him and it was basically just an empty threat.
I kinda felt bad for Michonne when Rick and them locked her up, and Rick grabbing her wound and making her sit down, I understand why he did it, but still.

I have a couple potential deal-breakers for me. I can suspend disbelief with the best of them, but...this first one isn't too bad: The Governor must either be stupid, or a coward. I can't believe he is a coward because he walked up in the middle of armed US military and blasted one of them point blank. So he's stupid. He is the leader of all these people yet he took Merle's word that the prison could not be cleared? No way I can believe that he could be such a capable leader and just dismiss the chance to plunder the supplies by taking on dead people instead of live ones.
And second, this one is hard for me to look past. Ricks group took riot gear to clear the prison, but they went off to battle with armed humans wearing only the clothes on their backs. I cannot accept that.

Human vs. Human battle royale next week! :wo
The Gov. won't die next episode, or the one after it. They'll keep things running for a bit. The attack will punch a hole in the cities defenses and probably expose the city to a walker attack. But ultimately the attack will be repulsed, probably someone will get captured or glen/maggie won't be rescued, something like that, so the interaction will continue. There are no real prominent characters in Woodbury other than Merle and The Gov., so if both of them die, the town storyline essentially dies as well, nothing left to see, move along...
Maggie not being raped was in keeping with the Gov.'s character. Vicious, but calculating and charming. He's not a base animal that would just rape someone for the fun of it, but he would not hesitate to do it to get what he wanted. It was clear to him that Maggie would do anything for Glen, but she would sacrifice her own body to keep her secret, so it made logical sense for him to abandon the rape play and just put the two of them in a room together.
At some point between now and the end of Season 3, Woodbury will be destroyed. It has to be. We can't see Rick's group "settling down" and enjoying themselves now, can we? that would be the end of the show! Although I do wonder how the hell they're going to raise that baby on their own. There simply isn't enough formula left in a 200m radius to sustain a baby for a year, someone needs to find a wetnurse. So far the baby has been downplayed, but at some point the issue will be raised.

To me, it was a break from looking at Carl as just another survivor turning badass, and showed a bit of him as a child. It was just a random memory that he recalled in a flash of his childhood. It was innocent and silly, something he has very little left of.

Of course there is significance to it. Carl remembers third grade fondly. Carl is fixating upon days when people didn't want to eat him? Carl had the Hots for Teacher? Carl once felt up his third grade teacher and the thought of her name makes him happy? Perhaps Carls actual mother was the third grade teacher rather than Lori?
A myriad of reasons why a character may go to a different place or memory, if you use your predictive skills, imagination, or decide to extrapolate a bit.
Maybe Carl is having dreams.
Maybe Carls third grade teacher is calling him on his cel phone?

Now that it is over for some months, I think it's time for "SHOT OF THE SEASON".
My nominee is the Governor brushing the hair of his daughter and the big ole chunk of

Looks like the prison needs some fortification. Will the multiple groups band together? I think they'd fare better if they did some how. Glad the Governor's daughter was finished off.
As they showed on Talking Dead a preview of next seasons episode, seems the new people are going to over throw Carol, Carl & Hershel, but Tyreese ain't having it.......

There's a bar in town that shows the episodes on a projector screen and several dozen people turn out. Whenever a shocker happens the reactions are always classic. When Michonne stabbed the Gov a guy yelled out amidst the gasps "She shanked him!" :r
Gotta say my SHOT OF THE SEASON however was Lori's death scene and Rick's reaction. Amazing acting :2

The Gov got his A$$ handed to him by a chick. That guy(GOV) is such a Doochebag. After seeing that ending it looks like he flipped Merle to make him his inside man. Next step is taking out team Rick & taking the prison. Looks like the Gov defenitly wants to kill all living people. Once again, DOOCHEBAG. I wonder how Ricks flashbacks of Shane will play out. Kool little twist to show him with what looks like he might have a mental meltdown.

It didn't happen on screen, but he did tell that girl (Sasha maybe?) "We got stuff to do" and looked that way (towards the body)
another SHOT OF THE SEASON "Sh!t Happens"
keep in mind that Rick has already snapped long ago. I was watching him watching that phone,
waiting for the girl to call back. But when Herschel picked up the phone, he immediately seemed to realize
that there was no dial tone, just scratchy static. He also seemed to realize he needed to give 'crazy' Rick
some space and left the room. I said, damn, Rick has lost it. there IS NO person on the other end.
Then they just ham-fistedly showed that the phone thing was just mental breakdown. I kind of hoped that
they would leave it as speculation by the audience.

Looks like the prison needs some fortification. Will the multiple groups band together? I think they'd fare better if they did some how. Glad the Governor's daughter was finished off.
At the beginning of the episode when the other group climbed into the prison, I thought they were going to have one of those plot devices where they show something happening in the future. I was thinking it would play out that the Gov had attacked the prison, run everyone off, and then here's this group at some point in the future finding the prison which is now easy to access. They show the future first and then the episode fills in the blank. Of course, I was WRONG. Looks like as you say the prison needs some fortification.
The Gov got his A$$ handed to him by a chick. That guy(GOV) is such a Doochebag. After seeing that ending it looks like he flipped Merle to make him his inside man. I didn't even think of that! I definitely would not put it past the Gov to make it look like he had betrayed Merle so that Rick's group would take him in and then Merle would be the Gov's man on the inside.

Interesting. I thought that the Gov was mad at Merle because he told him that he had killed Michone, and hadn't. I don't think Merle is in on this plan if that's what it is.

Not to mention that Michonne will kill Merle on sight after their confrontation when she left Woodbury. No way Merle joins Ricks group.
I also do not see a way for Merle to ever become a part of Rick's group. No plausible way anyway.
If the show goes Dixie LOST on us, maybe. One thing I will say....I hate cliff-hangers. I know it's
the very most fundamental device in Television, but I still hate em. If a show is good, I will come back and
watch ASAP. There is no need to play games with me, and if a show SUCKS, there is no way to tempt me
back anyway. But the Gov lives, so that goes on. Merle, incidentally does not looked too shocked to be put
in the position he has been put in, so I agree that something smells like fish. Of course the Gov now has
monocular vision, and he will ALWAYS be scared now. I think that's the one truth he told in his little speech.
He may be the big man on campus, but he will not be putting his shi+ out in the wind so easily now.

Idk though, that seems like a pu$$y way for Merle to go.....so just speculating.

True, Merle certainly hasn't made any friends in the Rick group up to this point. Even before Woodbury, Merle didn't exactly make nice with the group way back in Atlanta. They did have to handcuff him to the roof in the end.
However, he is still Daryl's brother and it is TV after all.

I believe in the comic they do pop up again. From what I've read about the comics, the TV show doesn't follow them quite exactly. The show from what I've read of the comics really only follows the comics loosely.
Even though I've read through the Walking Dead comic wiki I know I still find the show exciting and there's no guarantee that characters I read about in the comic will be in the show so I don't know if I would call anything a spoiler necessarily if it came from the comic. I know I told my wife "the boat sinks at the end" before she went and saw Titanic but she really enjoyed the movie anyway. :D

I really hope so and didn't like when The Sopranos dropped major plot points.
Season one and a chunk of season two we're great. Something is missing this season. Losing Lori was the most powerful moment of the season thus far and like others have said good riddance.
Like a freaking soap opera all these people could avoid a lot of pain by just talking to one another more.
It will be a disappointment if Andrea talks the situation down.
I find Andrea to just be a sexier version of Lori, a little too irritating for her own good. While Lori was whiny,
Andrea is too stupid for her own good. She strives to be independent and to play with the boys, but the viewer
has the advantage of seeing how dumb most of her decisions are, so we know how bad an idea it might be for
her to have too much say over anything. To be fair, WE know a lot more about what an idiot she is than she does,
haha, but overall she is a huge turnoff for me. But not near the weiner-wilter Lori was.

Just to note, the word "download" does not not necessarily mean to assume "illegal". In the past month my wife bought a book on Amazon. It was downloaded to her Kindle. But I do not feel bad downloading a show that runs on free

enjoyment and not for sale or trade, then archive it to a
disc for possible later viewing.
If its a scumbag argument, I just paid my state use tax for $500

Amazon did not report it to the state. I just thought it was right.

Quick follow up. If I wanted to watch TWD on a laptop, I would do that instead. The reason I download
it and burn it is so that I can watch it on a bigscreen TV. I could connect a cable, but with my laptop, it
would not use the TV's proper potential scale-wise.
I do not have even basic cable. I do not like to pay for TV that I rarely watch. I don't want to watch the
glut of crap that cable TV forces on me just to justify having paid for it and having something to watch.
There is no value in it to me. I could watch PBS 4-6 nights a week and be more than happy. But I do want
to see the show. hehe.
Tell me where I can get this "free" cable you speak of.
Haha, I mean non-subscription cable. I call it free if it's 15 shopping channels, a few old-movie showers like
TBS and TVland, etc. Pay cable to me is HBO, SHOWTIME, et al. I KNOW you gotta PAY for all of it, but again,
I do not. Just can't see the cost creep that is going on with 'bundling'. Even the most basic of crap is setting
people back 50-60 bucks as part of a bundle of 100-150 bucks. I only watch entertainment TV 2 hours a night.
I watch BBC World News and PBS Newshour when I get home from work, though, which bumps up my avg a bit.

I was actually a bit disappointed with this episode.
The attack was dry and obvious (how cliche with Rick running out of ammo twice and the truck of walkers didn't look like much of a threat in such a large open space) and I just have this feeling we will spend the next few episodes with skirmishes back and forth that will become repetitive and not really go anywhere (reminds me of Season 2 looking for Sophie).
To continue with the cliches, let me guess, the final "win" will come when rick, michonne, daryl & meryl, and tyreese's crew all join forces to overcome the Governer and his 2 or 3 henchmen.
Here's hoping to see something interesting - tackling the food shortage, disease in the prison, unrest in woodbury, lauries ghost cheats with shanes ghost and disappears to mexico.

Yep, I sure did....nice catch
I thought it was a great episode and what episode 9 should have been.
Hell I was convinced when the Gov told Andrea no retaliation, I'm a sucka
Hershel is STILL the voice of reason I like how he talks to Rick, I was glad to hear Rick say he knows she's not really there, but that she is telling him something maybe that was kinda interesting to me.
Bye Bye Child Molester (can't remember his name)
Dod you all see Carol's little giddy shrug? That was cool to me, it brought back her human side to me if you will, because they have all been on their guard so much and deservedly so that it was nice to see her act like that again.
Why is Maggie so upset at Glenn? What did he do? He wanted to know if the Gov raped her and he got that answer, I didn't understand that part really.
Where was Tyrese?
Darryl & Merle's little tussle in the woods was meh, will be interesting to see how they treat Merle in the group yeah he helped, but how will he really act towards them?
Great last few mins of the episode, reminded me of HEAT in a way lol, I didn't want it to end.

....Why is Maggie so upset at Glenn? What did he do?.
Sensitive issue. My impression was that Glenn theorized what happened to Maggie in her "captivity" and maybe considered her a "spoiled" woman.
Maggie made clear the details of the assault. She also alleged she was partially put into that position because of him, and her interaction with the Gov was, in part, one of the reasons he ( Glenn) is still alive.
I would agree.

I now have Eps. 9-11 on my flash drive. My new computer motherboard and chip that I put in, after cooking my last

You know what I am surprised no one has mentioned...I watched Epi 9 last night, and when Rick got back from
totally flubbing up the rescue of Darryl, Herschel's youngest (remaining) daughter gave him a big kiss, angling
to be the baby's new momma and to rub out all Rick's leader stress. Then the camera cuts to his son whom we all
know wants to grow up and give the world another shot by making some babies with her. They didn't play some
dramatic music or linger too long on it, but that's gonna end up being ugly when it happens again.

I do like that they closed that loose end. I just find it interesting that Morgan knows where they are but Morgan gave NO indication that he would recover from his mental state but i just have this feeling. What tripped me about that episode is that they went all the way back into Ricks town. I figured they were so far away from the town by now. If I went all the way back I'd be looking for the "Vatos" that were helping the retirement home out too.
I am not sure that 'the fans' are the reason Morgan came back for closure. He is not done in this story, now that
he has been re-established. We will see him again soon enough. I am caught up now, having burned 11 & 12 to
DVD last night and watching it all.
That was SOOO messed up with the screaming hitchhiker. I knew there was only one way for that to go in the end,
and I knew they were going to go right where they did with it.
I never liked Andrea, and after Epi 12 I think the book is closed on her with me. She could have done a great thing,
and now I am left to wonder if the Gov is just a 'family farm' where we are going to waste another 5-6 episodes and cliff-
hang on it. That would be awfully disappointing. But its their show, they can determine the pace and I would gladly
watch more, not like LOST, where I knew after one season that I was being jerked around (and STILL watched all of it
like a freaking fool.)
Merle behaved himself. I love the actor, I love the character. He does seem to be eerily biding his time, but maybe he
is realizing that if he loves his brother, for once, the younger might have something to teach the elder. We'll see.
I think they find a way to marter him, (intentionally mis-spelled to prevent En-Ess-Ay filtering of my online postings.)

I thought last nights episode sucked dog balls. Nothing came of it...except for Glenn and Maggie getting it on in the docking bay. The whole "one upping" between Darryl and Martinez while they were knocking off zombies. :r :r :r
At first I was dissappointed there wasn't more action but as it went on I began to appreciate the episode.
I thought the writers did a great job of showing how the groups had similar roles with Rick/Gov, Herschel/Milton and Daryl/Caeser. I loved how each combatant found simililarities with their counterpart (though any similarity Rick found with the Gov would be fake, because that dude [the Gov] is as unauthentic as they come).
And to keep complete balance, you have Andrea still playing the middle and conflicted on which way to go. Now this is the part I don't get...after all she's discovered about the Gov, why would she still stay with that group?

Pffft, no way, Tom...she had the perfect chance and couldn't do it. She has always complained that everyone

Really. I thought it played out a little corny too. That " let's kill zombies together" opportunity was, a waaaaaayy too easy and predictable, "continuity fix" for the writers as to why the two clans managed to stay outside timidly chatting in harmony without killing each other. Don't forget both clans already orchestrated horrific attacks on each others' "home".
The entire situation above would not even exist if Rick and Gov didn't just open up some whoopazz and be done with it. Someone commented here weeks ago, that hopefully they wouldn't milk the situation for all it's worth. Since "Prison vs Woodbury" was going on at the end of last season, after 3 episodes into season four, apparently that is going to be so.

I called it, the writing on TWD has been on a decline. The repetitiveness is getting to me.
It's become too much family drama and losing the zombie apocolypse that hooked me in the first place. If the next 3 episodes are not redeeming quality, then I will have wasted my time with this whole half season after that wait. If they need to cut it to 10 episodes or less to cut out the boring parts and filler, then AMC please do so.
Season 1 (6 episodes) > Season 2 (12 episodes) > Season 3 (16 episodes)
Hope I don't derail the thread, but anyone watch Spartacus? This season has had me on the edge of my seat - Excellent so far.

I think the action will pick-up in the last couple of episodes.
The family drama stuff is wearing on me too. Thanks goodness Laurie's gone!

I honestly think that the show would be better killing off all the characters except Merle and Daryl.

Don't forget his other brother, Daryl. ;)

SPOILER ALERT IF YOU DID NOT WATCH LAST NIGHT DO NOT READ
Ahh the Goverenor. ........
Survives initial violent argument with Michonne.
Survives initial attack on his compound where he was the main target.
Survives knife attack that results in a devastating stabbing to the eye but not the brain. Weapon used in the assault was a three foot long Samarai sword.
Survives after Amanda approaches him in his sleep to stab him in the jugular, when she suddenly forgets why she approached him in bed with knife in hand.
Survives after he drives up with accomplices for revenge attack at prison compound. Unbeknownst to him, Rick is actually outside the compound, armed, in high grass with a scoped rifle. Rick inexplicably immediately gives up his position, and his gun jams.
Survives " peace meeting" with Rick
Survives after preparing the " torture room" while Amanda, in hiding, is pointing a pistol at his head, but does not fire.
Survives after Amanda locks him in a corridor with 40 zombies at the abandoned warehouse.
It's getting old... but I still watch.......

Angela, not Amanda.
And yes, I can honestly say that last night was the first time I have ever been frustrated with this series. Two weeks in a row where essentially NOTHING happened. I'm sure something will before the end of the season, but come on...They are just stalling in a BIG way.

Angela, not Amanda..
Check :tu
Interesting how the cast lately can now effortlessly dispatch walking dead zombies to the grave with a pen knife, or nearby items of opportunity such as a hook. Soon I expect as much as a simple stern look will terminate the zombie, " as long as it's to the head".
Meanwhile the living, breathing, humans continually find it increasingly difficult to kill their mortal enemies in a fully armed and lawless society, no matter how many incredible opportunities are given.
:sl
Not sure if anybody besides me is starting to see the " Dr. Smith" or " Gilligan Island Syndrome" here. But the writers are milking this one dry.

I saw all this coming many weeks ago. This BS is just another Greene Family Farm device.
Its LOST 2.0. But I WILL continue to watch, because how I view important shows has
changed since LOST. I can download them and watch them when and if I feel like it.
Lost, I had to be there each night, in the chair.

I didn't mind last nights episode. No way the Gov survices 20 zombies coming at him...especially when he ran out of bullets. Now Andrea gets to see "the dentist". And the Milton torched them "biters"...waiting to see what the Gov will do. Interesting.

Dayum y'all are a tough crowd! I for one am enjoying this season :tu
I am going to watch 13 an 14 tonight for the first time. Should be good to catch up on all the stuff you guys
have already mentioned, although excitement for a lame show is hard to generate. i guess I will see if it was
lame or not.
I am sitting around waiting for a meeting to start that starts freaking 2 hours after I am normally leaving
for home. SO I am bored. And so is ROCKY. This is Michael Rooker's brother, (Merle to you all). He is killing
some time playing the machines the boss has in the building I am in. Rich boss likes to buy toys.

Well, I get to add one more to my post #484
However, I'd say the whole second half of the episode got back to the pace that got me hooked on the series in the first place. :tu

I loved last nights show. Really setting it up for the showdown next week. And either Darryl is gonna kick some serious or go off on his own. I hope he kicks some Woodbury tail.

I didn't care for the first half of the episode, but as usual, they're kicking it up a notch for the finale....should be a good one,

The end of that episode really blew me away. I knew as soon as the Gov shot him that he didn't shoot him in the head. That's just the kind of A-hole he is.
Is next week the season finale? If it is, I'm expecting it to be CRAZY good.
