Not to you guys/gals, my truck. Rising gas prices and 11/mpg have forced me to sell my baby. I have driven a truck for most of my driving life and now it looks like I wont be driving one for quite some time. I'm gonna miss her but the savings will be well worth it.

Here she is.

That's rough Earl. Love my truck too. How about a diesel? Better mileage.

Im in a Tundra 5.7L now, I manage 15 city and 19 highway. Usually averages around 15.5mpg. I wish Ford still made the Ranger, I really liked that compact truck. Really, for "fuel efficient" pickups, you have limited choices - the Tacoma, the Colorado/Canyon, or the EcoBoost F150.

The Tundra is made in Texas with an American made engine and transmission, and 80% of the other components are American made as well, so I rest pretty easy. I was going to get an F150 when I bought the Tundra, but the dealer wasnt moving on the price.

I like trucks in general, any pickup truck is good with me.

Wish I could afford the new eco boost. not having a car payment is pretty nice. I'm just going to find something I can pay cash for and that gets good mpg.

In the words of Dave Ramsey, "Live like no one else, so that later, you can live like no one else" in other words, sacrifice now so that you can live the way you want to later.

I miss my 01 L. Like you, with the tune I could get 17-18 on the highway (on the way to the strip) :D.

It's too bad Ford didn't invest in the Ranger and update it with the newer engine tech. I could easily see those getting 30 on the highway. But I understand the financial side when they make so much per unit on the F150's and they were getting about the same mileage as the Ranger.

OT...
Love that guy. My wife and I adopted his strategies years ago. Even though we are young (34&30), we are way ahead of folks 10 or 15 yrs our senior.
end OT

You are on the right track.

We have 3 vehicles. The 2010 F150, 2005 Mercedes S430 4-matic and a 2002 Mercedes ML320 for catering. Never had payments on any and always buy used. It's a GREAT feeling owing for nothing but your house and, Lord willing, in 5 years, our house will be paid for as well.

Dad has a gen one tundra with the 4.7 and it's good on gas but lacks in power.

I have a sonic blue 03 with a 3lb lower and a amazon tune. I'm looking at getting a 97 7.3 diesel in the very near future.

If I was a billionaire, I would still probably drive a truck. Though, I would probably supplement my driving with something else as well.

Sorry for your loss :(

Just said goodbye to Pearl. Today has been a pretty crappy day. I woke up this morning puking my brains out and had liquid coming out of pretty much every other hole in my body. I went to the hospital and they gave me fluids and meds and sent me back home. Then I just sold the truck. Its been a long day.

I felt horrible when I got rid of my '95 F-150.
