I was looking at something new to try. I saw the Illusione MJ at my B&M, it was wrapped in foil. My question..Does this dry the cigar out?

No, Mike, my experience is that is actually holds the moisture in.

They are a great cigar. There is also a maduro version, that is wrapped in black foil.

Thanks, I guess I knew a top company wouldn't do something to harm a cigar. It just struck me as strange, I've never seen this before.

The maduro is definitely the way to go IMO if they have it :tu :dr

What wrapper is on the MJ in the silver foil?

The call it wet packing as the cigars are rolled in foil while still wet. I believe it is also supposed to help the aging process too. The MJ12 is a great stick!

I've never smoked the Maduro MJ12, but the Regular one is
amazing! I really don't care for the wrapper on their current
maduro line.

I think the only one I saw was silver. I was looking at it and the Epernay. I'm leaving for a camping trip tomorrow and like to take something new. I decided on an Illusione and a Fausto.

Isnt it Nicaraguan?

That's just the country of origin, which could encompass any one of hundreds of different tobaccos.

IIRC, it's a Corojo 99 leaf, taken from the upper viso primings.

Are they actually wet packed? I could be mistaken, but I thought they went through the normal storage procedure at the factory and then were foil wrapped for looks right before boxing. Dion and his wacky cigar name tie ins, something about "MJ12" referring to the Roswell alien incident investigation team and foil wrapping = foil hats.

So can it be smoked ROTT? Or right out the store as it were?

NorCal_Mark (Tower Cigars) sent a box over to one of our herfs right when they were first released, and a number of us smoked them at the herf. The one I smoked seemed perfectly fine to me.

I would say yes! I've bought several maduros and the all smoked fine right out the shop however some were a little to moist (had some burn issues bur nothing to write home about) that being said I think I'm smoking one tonight!! :dr

I'm with you, whodeeni. Very rare is the San Andres maddie that does anything for me. Wish Andre would have stuck with a corojo maduro.

I'll take any 'regular' Illusione over the maduro version.

I liked all the other maduros Illusione does, but I am not a fan of the mj12 maduro. Something was just off compared to the others from the few I've tried. Maybe I'll give em another go in the next couple days.

I thought this was the case as well. Plus, and I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that for a while they came without the foil due to a sourcing problem. Guess the aliens stole all his foil!

I thought they were wet packed but I could very possibly be incorrect. I would hope that if they were going through the trouble of wrapping them in foil that they would be wet packed but who knows now. time to do some digging.:r

That's because you're always smoking those Matcans that make you go blind in one eye.

I wish I could find the photo of you at that herf. Sitting there with your eye swollen up and still trying to finish that Matcan cigar.

Is it important to take the foil off when you store them or is it kind of like a tubo?

No need to remove the foil when you store them, think of it like a slightly leaky tubo.

I think Big Maduro's implication was that he was worried that the cigar might be slightly over humidified and wanted to ensure it would smoke properly this weekend, hence removing the foil ahead of time.
