Does anybody use a good blender to make cold coffee drinks?
If so what brand and model? Any suggestions?
I have tried to blend ice and coffee together with poor results in the past.
Now that my espresso machine is on the way I would like to try this again with a cold brew base and espresso shots added to the finished product.

I am a fan of Starbucks Frappacino, if I could blend it at home I would never have to go to Starbucks again. Any suggestions?

I have been using an Oster blender like this one with bad results:

Magic bullet actually does a decent job. Fairly cheap, too.

That is what I read but I hear they fail rather frequently.

I actaully just found a recipe for imitating Starbucks Frap, they recommend using chocolate pudding mix to replace starbucks "Secret Base". I can't wait to try this! Consistency is the issue I have been dealing with and the pudding is supposed to make it the same consistency as Starbucks. It may not have been a blender problem after all! :tu

Can't argue that. On my second one, first lasted about a year and a half. Mostly use it for fruit smoothies and the occasional frozen cocktail for the wife but it does well with blended coffee.

I have that same blender Shane. Surprisingly, it has worked (lasted) for about 6 years or so. I have come to the conclusion about 5 or 6 years ago that you honestly get what you pay for with blenders and mixers.

I have burnt up a handful of both mixers and blenders. I don't remember how much I paid for the Oyster I have now, probably $30-$50 but its been working good so far.

To be honest though, I have never tried to make what your trying to make in it although I have made smoothies with ice in it a handful of times with good results.

Yah I think the issue lies with the ingredients used and not the blender itself.
And yes the Osters are reviewed as the best blenders under $50.00

Yah I saw those recommended. I think if the Jello pudding mix doesn't solve my issue I may go that route! :tu

Not sure if I can find it again. It was simply coffee, ice, milk, & choc pudding powder. Let me know if you try it!

I think I will get some pudding mix tonight as well but prolly wont be able to try it for a couple of days. Need to make some more cold brew or use espresso if my machine shows up tomorrow!

ahh, good point I don't have any cold brew made yet. I got that french press and have made some of that Zombie coffee, I enjoy it a lot. But I guess I will have to make cold press coffee first.

You can use hot coffee and put it in the fridge but I prefer cold brew.
Plus cold brew stays fresh longer.

Shane, did it mention "Instant Pudding" or the "Cook & Cool" style?

I think it just said Jello chocolate pudding mix, I was assuming instant.

Found it!!! (http://moneysavingmom.com/2011/05/homemade-frappuccino-recipe.html)
It says instant!

Homemade Frappuccino Recipe
■ Ice
■ 1/2 package of Jell-O Instant Pudding, any flavor
■ 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee (For a little more of a Starbucks flavor, add one package of Via instant coffee instead of liquid coffee.)
■ Milk (any kind — almond, soy, whole, non-fat)

Fill Magic Bullet tall cup with ice and add half a package (approximately 2 1/2 tablespoons) of your chosen pudding. Add coffee and top with milk (it should reach brim of cup).

Place the Magic Bullet cross blade lid on cup, put onto Magic Bullet base and blend to desired consistency (until you don’t hear the ice crushing anymore).

Top with whipped cream if desired, and enjoy! If it looks too thick, there should be room for a little bit more milk. Stir and pack down what you have now, and add milk to the brim of cup. Blend for five seconds more.

Good story Mike, I particularly enjoyed the middle section but the preface was interesting. After I finished reading it I felt fulfilled and satisfied, two sensations I had been longing for. Thank you.

I found another recipe:

Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino (http://starbucks-secretrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/05/starbucks-mocha-frappuccino-recipe.html)

Ingredients
•1/2 cup fresh espresso
•2 1/2 cups low fat milk (2 percent)
•1/4 cup granulated sugar
•1 tablespoon dry pectin

No idea where to find dry pectin, I assume it will do the same as the instant pudding.

I ain't gonna save you any money or nothing, but the blender is a deceptive whore. What YOU
NEED is a combination blender/ice shaver. It might be pricey, but MAN DOES IT RULE!!!!

Blending itself is a terrible way to break down ice into crystals, and what's more, it creates unwanted
heat which ruins the effect. A Jimmy Buffet Frozen Concoction Machine shaves the ice into the blender
and THEN combines-chops up the other ingredients and I ain't ashamed to say it, it kicks A55. There is
nothing worse in a blended drink than little ice chips. Say good bye to both ice chips and 2oo bucks. :)

My mouth is watering over here.
Fun Tip for Iced Coffee drinkers.
Instead of using water ice cubes which will dilute your coffee, put cool coffee in the ice tray and let it freeze. It seems so obvious but yeah.

Same can go with blended drinks as well I suppose.

I think I am going to cold brew some STRONG coffee this weekend and strain it into a container and
make myself some frozen java drinks. I am not a coffee drinker, but on the weekends I am game for anything.
During the week, I needs my beauty sleep. My mother and father both could and usually DID drink a cup of
coffee before bedtime....weird.

Look at the puffy little lilt on the top of that banana daiquiri, though....Doesn't it ALMOST make you wanna
spend 200 bucks on a freaking blender? Almost, anyway.

I made up 2 liters of concentrated coffee using the overnight dump 1/2 pound of coffee into a large container method.
Got the pudding at the store this morning, gonna add a few shots of Hershey's syrup, too.

If you are willing to dump $200 on a blender- you might as well shell out a little more for this:
