So this past weekend I had my bachelor party. Started off with a awesome dinner at Peter Lugers, followed by a 11p-4am fishing charter. Got a couple hours of sleep and BOOM, I was on a plane, with a guy and a parachute strapped to my back.
Easily one of the best things Ive done in my life and Im sure I will do it again soon. Doing a wing suit jump has been on my bucket list for a while and you need a lot of skydives to even be allowed to try that. Going up in the plane was fine. You literally feel fear for about 60 seconds as the doors open and you're looking down, but then you have no time to process what is actually going on. By the time you know it you're falling at 120mph towards the ground and all feelings are gone. Kind of felt at peace, yet zoned in. Parachute opens and then theres silence. You literally hear nothing, its quite amazing.
You guys need to go try it!

yeah, its pricey to learn but once you get your license the jumps are pretty cheap. Now I need to accumulate 200 for a wingsuit jump :D

Did a tandem jump a while back, before I was an old married man. Greatest thrill ever. It's on tape...that's how long ago it was. My wife still won't watch it.

Was certified years ago, made lots of jumps. Fun for a while, then I lost my desire. I agree, everyone should try it at least once.

I had said last year I was going to jump as a gift to myself for losing all the weight. Never did get a chance to go, was always on the road for work. Well next week I hope to be back in town and am planning on taking a day off work to go jump.

I never met a plane that I disliked enough to jump out of...

Was it a tandem or solo?

Give him a break Tom... his subconscious probably blocked it out after he read something about him being "with a guy", a strap on, and "being on his back."

I did a solo free fall about 15 years ago. Had to take a weekend class. I never had such a rush once I landed. The helmet had a one way radio and someone on the ground tells you how to steer the chute so I landed right where I needed to be.
Next time I'd probably just do a tandem so it is not so involved. I did not want to get my license as the place was like 2+ hours away.

I've got 31 jumps, years ago.
I was on my way to get my license but broke up with my girlfriend that was a jumpmaster so that ended that. I even painted the jump plane for jump credit enough to get me my B or C license.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted but I'm finished with it.

I have a few solo jumps and will actually be doing a tandem this weekend. Fun stuff.

Done it twice. One of the biggest rushes you'll ever have.
Now that I'm married with children, my wife won't let me do it anymore. :r

Though not the same, it looks like we're going hang gliding next weekend, 1 week before our wedding :p
Getting out the door is TOUGH. Even on a static line, which I am sure you started out with, I think it's the law.
Once you scream for mama, it's the SINGLE QUIETEST AND most wonderful ride there is, in my 50 years of experience
anyway. You clear the plane and there is a rush of fabric on fabric, a loud whump, and then NOTHING. What a great
experience. Just the whisper of the air and your heat beating.

Not a law in Illinois, Brad....a couple tandem jumps (with 8500 foot freefalls) and then you are freefalling on your own with a jumpmaster until certified to jump alone.
Of course this was in Alabama and it was 1980, so things may have changed and obviously can be different here and there.
This also could have been a moneymaking scam for Idle Hour Airport, "5 static line jumps before going any further".
Sure was fun, though. My mother found out after I had done it. I think she thought I was coming home to NO for
Mother's Day. SHE SAYS they were waiting for me at home and got a call that I had just skydove. I just remember it
being another weekend. Shows what kind of a son I was then. Serves em right for wanting me to join the service at 17.
