Actually it is a one step program, delete credit card info!

I accidently bought four or five humidors and 75 smokes my first order.

I was out fishing and I got a call from the wife, "Do you know why our house payment didn't go through today?", ouch.

I've been able to keep it to around $30/month on CBid... the trick is resisting making additions to your order to "save on shipping". I might add a single here or there, but 5-packs add-up quickly as do accessories.

I finally cut WAY WAY back and actually have gone a few weeks without purchasing anything from there. I had a hard time finding places to put all the crap....desk is full, fridge is full, I even have a box full of tee shirts and hats still in the plastic. Give it a few months and Talley what you actually spend after shipping and save that money for something really nice, That's my plan now.

Not to say it's not great fun on the devil just set a price and stick to it (keeping shipping in mind). Have fun.

Am I the only one that never got sucked into the auction sites? I did go to cbid to get a good deal on a 100ct humi a while back, but that's the only thing I've ever ordered from there.

SvilleKid
05-08-2012, 12:45 PM
In reality, I spent a decent amount there when I was early in smoking. And mainly ONLY when I could get a true deal. I've gone for 5-6 years now, only grabbing a deal when I can't find something I really want. Last purchase was 2 months ago, and it was the first purchase there in over 2 years. OTOH, this does mean my current card info is there, just calling me!

Hi, my name is Scott and I'm a Cbid addict. After buying close to 2000 cigars from there, I finally reached saturation point. I think I have enough cigars to last for a little while. I don't need anymore. I'm done. I can walk away.

Oh, but those Graycliff's are such a good deal!

I can do it, I can be strong.

Crap.

okay okay okay. I can beat this.

But, but, but now shipping is expensive....I have to fill up the box!

Hmmmm, Tatuaje! Less than 3 bucks a stick! Just a fiver, that should be ok, gotta make the shipping worthwhile right? Oh, and a punch cutter! My other three ARE getting kinda dull.

Crud, I'm never gonna get my medallion.

I turned my golfing buddy's dad onto Cbid a little over a year ago. He gets up every morning, checks his bids, finds new ones to make, and goes to work. When he gets home he checks and doctors his bids. This is every day. The old man says it was the best advice anyone has ever given him - all those around him would beg to differ. He retires in a couple of years. Lord help them all then. He's a-buck-a-stick kinda guy and he'll need a walk-in.

Someone at CI is a marketing genius! Especially the guy that came up with the weekly shipping/combined shipping option.

I have relapsed. My addiction has expanded to buying sticks "off the streets" and other sites as well. I've joined others by sinking into the darkness of impulsive buying. And it feels great.:noon

Picked up 10 tins of Pirata Pequenos for just $2/tin last week. Great little 20-30 min hand-made (free-rolled) smoke and cost less than Swishers! Grabbed a 5er of Professor Sila for $3 since I like Baccarat, Diamondback and the like but these have a funny bit of sour aftertaste which doesn't mesh well with the sweet tip.

Funny Story, in Dec/January i picked up brick of victor st claire 55 corojo
red cigarillo's. I had a tin in my car for short smokes. They were kind of dry
but everybody loved them! I would never buy anything else from him but
i've found that its hard to mess up a cigarillo/petite corona.

The Cohiba Pequeno's are actually the best stick in the Cohiba Red Dot
line!

You know, I do not understand this. If you watch your pricing, there are not really any specials there - at least not on anything I have ever really wanted. I have looked, and looked, and looked, and never found anything worth offering a bid on.

Maybe I'm just a tightwad, but when I order something, I want a deal.

I have yet to find a "deal" there.

I have seen a few deals that others posted about, over which I was mildly envious, but never have I seen a deal on a cigar I was searching for at a price I couldn't get regularly elsewhere.

Of course, I don't go over there every day. I did at one time, but now I go over there rarely - it was such a waste of time to look and not find anything that I thought was "worth" bidding on.

I guess everybody's experience and approach is different. I just don't get it.

Peace of the Lord be with you.

Todd

I've noticed you do have to watch as the deals sometimes aren't really deals (as Todd mentioned above). I have been fortunate enough to save 50% on a mazo of 20 here and there but you have to be aware of prices through other retailers.

That said, my new ashtray should be coming in the mail from them today or tomorrow :D

Was big on CigarMonster, but never auction sites. Don't use credit, so all purchases are generally "OK, I got money now.. Buy something before I spend it on food.. Go go go!!"

Now? I barely even look at CigarMonster. When I get my new humi, I'd rather it be filled with all premium sticks.. My pocketbook and GF don't agree sadly :-D

My golfing buddies have started me out with $200. They want variety, decent golf gars, at a reasonable price. CB offers plenty of 5ers and small lots so that should give them the variety and hopefully a week's worth of selective shopping will give them quantity with some quality. I often see Thompson house brands, JR knockoffs, and Quorums in their carts. In this instance, they are the ones complaining about what they smoke, doesn't matter to me in the least. I guess they're tired of not hearing me complain.

But, I did keep it around $2.50 a stick average, which is something they were hoping for. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised with the selection and quality for the price.

I had a blast breaking up their 5ers and boxes (some like small smokes, while some like fat one, some like maduros only, some like spicy, while some like mild). They were all like kids at Christmas. I felt like a black market cigar dealer with baggies of smokes going all over the neighborhood and work cubicles. :D

I think I belong here.
After a fairly long hiatus from CBid (bids were too high),
I decided I needed to restock cheap smokes for the
coming summer/autumn yard work, parties & whatnot.
Week's winnings:

30 Arganese Maduro Toro $23
20 Pinar del Rio Reserva Limitada Toro $28
12 Pinar del Rio Torpedo Sampler $13
25 5 Vegas Gold Toro $38
10 5 Vegas Series 'A' Toro $18
20 Felipe Dominicana Robusto $16
10 Padilla Conmemorativo Sampler $19
5 Carlos Torano Noventa Toro $10
5 Perdomo Slow-Aged Churchill $5

Total:
137 cigars for $188.45 (includes shipping cost)

I think I went a bit nuts.
HELP!! (hee hee)
Good thing my smokin buddies will be glad to kick in for some.;)

I'm a big fan of the devils site. I turn every cigar buddy I have on to it. It's so much fun watching them get sucked into the maw. I have a budget of $250 a month for the devil..I spend one weekend a month there, have some fun and get out..love the place. When my income climbs again so will my cbid budget..

As least my purchase was justified...or at least, that's what I keep telling myself. Sold 15 cigars to a friend here at the academy, so my humidor looked kinda empty. That night, I got my 15 cigars back on the devil's site using the money he paid me...plus 22 extras just in case.

We had some old friends over that were travelling through this area and Monday night the margaritas were flowing like water. I was checking my e-mails Tuesday morning and there was a confirmation e-mail from the Devil Site. My first thought was "Aw $hit, what did I do?!?" :) Luckily it was only a small bid on an est. 1844 Sampler.

There has to be an app for that. There is a drunk dial prevention app available now. Before you start drinking, you punch in the phone number you don't want to call later, and set the beginning/end times. Voila- your phone will not let you dial that number until the next morning.

OK OK, I have laughingly read this thread many times. I have been on cbid and picked up a couple of things in the past for a great price. However, I got disenchanted with the site when I could never seem to get a good deal on some of the higher end Padron and Fuente stuff which should be expected. However, I began to realize I'm running low on some of my milder everyday type of smokes. I really had not budgeted in any cigar purchases but hey if I got something cheap I would just have to make it happen.

I place lots of low ball bids, I was even making a sport out of it, losing on everything it was no big deal I wasn't seriously in the market quite yet. Then all of a sudden I win a 5er of Padron Family Reserve 46 for 88? Then the bug hit me...

All of a sudden the Padrons are coming in the mail, so now I can't let them ride solo. I started raising a few of my bids now I got a small order coming..... oh boy I have become what I judged... it was so subtle...please help... :)

:adam

That's EXACTLY how it starts. The next step is finding something you like and putting a reasonable bid in for it. Then you think to yourself "Well, to make the shipping worthwhile I should bid on something else." So you find something else you like and put in a reasonable bid on that, too. Then you realize that if either of those bids doesn't win you're not making out so well on the shipping. So you bid on a third item just in case, even though you don't really have room for them. And then you win all three bids.

Then, of course, there's the late night "Drink & Bid", where you have a few too many, wake up the next morning, and check your e-mail to find four bid confirmation e-mails and you have no idea what you bid on. :D

Hey everyone, this is my first post but thought it fitting to bring back this thread since I just got back into enjoying the occasional stick and discovered this site. What started off as a quest to find a decent but inexpensive humidor has sent me wayyyy over the edge in a very short time. This is just what I've picked up since June 18th:

6/18 - 10 Rocky Patel vintage 1992 Robustos - $38
6/19 - 5 Rocky Patel Royal Vintage Toro - $20
6/24 - 4 Drew Estate Natural Irish Hops - $20
6/25 - 5 R&J 1875 El Gordo's incl 5 Herf-a-dor and lighter - $28
6/26 - 5 My Father #1 Robusto - $30
6/29 - 1 Tuscany 100ct Humidor - $43
6/29 - 21 J Fuego Sangre de Toro Toros' - $55
6/29 - 1 Colibi grip cutter - $10
6/30 - 5 H. Upmann 1844 Res. Robusto - $19
6/30 - 10 Alec Bradley Flight Sampler $28
7/1 - 5 Oliva Serie 'O' Torpedo - $23
7/1 - 5 My Father No. 1 - $33
7/1 - 5 H. Upmann 1844 Res. Churchill - $19

Normally I'd say I have a problem but from what I've seen the selection gets pretty narrow after a while. After reviewing things further I'm hoping I can stay clean for at least a month, suurrrre I can.
