So, do you nub a cigar only if it really deserves it or because you paid good money for it?

Deserves only...life it too short to smoke something you aren't enjoying, regardless of cost. :2

Xactly! I don't care how much I paid, if I don't like it right out of the gate, it gets spiked.

Nice Avatar!!! To the nub only if I'm enjoying it. If it tastes like gack, it won't make it to the 2nd 3rd.

That's the perfect way of putting it.

Only if it's "nub worthy"...if not, it gets pitched. Too many other good sticks out there to fight one I'm not enjoying.

Like others said, I smoke it until its no longer enjoyable to me then it gets pitched. If there is 4 inches or 1/4 of an inch left, it doesn't matter.

I'm sort of in between. I may smoke it farther than I really should if it was expensive, but not really enjoyable, but won't necessarily nub it either.

I'll smoke one as long as it still tastes good.Never have I saw the need for a nub tool though.

I'm pretty stubborn, so I'll likely stick with a cigar longer than I should and end up nubbing it or close to. I can't lie either, price definitely affects how long I'll stick with it, but I've also been pleasantly surprised by a cigar during the final 1/3 after a totally underwhelming first two thirds.

To me a cigar hits its best point somewhere in the middle.. if it's no good after that I pitch it. Now if I was an addict I'd nub it but I smoke cigars to relax and because it's a hobby, not an addiction.

This is the reason that most experienced smokers will tell you that their cigar mantra is something like, "smoke what you like, like what you smoke."

There are plenty of time in the past where I have pulled out a "got to" smoke that wasn't tasting right, or canoeing, or draw was off, etc. I pitch 'em if I can and only try to fix the draw problems if I'm in the mood.

Now mind you, I also try to figure out what exactly the problem is. If I can re-clip the head or shorten the cigar and get something worth smoking, well, then I go for it.

Pitch em out the window! Too many good smokes out there to waste my time on sh!tty smokes.

I typically dig the end of the cigar so I tend to stick with a cigar a little longer if it isn't being very friendly

I don't generally nub cigars; I find that the delicate balancing act of keeping it lit while not drawing so deeply that it tastes burnt is often a chore, and that's not what I smoke for.

If I truly love what I'm smoking, I make the effort. But even if it's been spectacular, if it's too much work at the end I let it die out. Way more often than not, it's the latter.

I seem to nub everything unless its an absolute dog rocket or I just get completely bored with it.

Agreed, only if it's nub worthy. For me, the sweet spot of most cigars is the 1-2 inches just before the nub. Usually the heat from the nub gets too much to handle.

Smoke it till it burns your fingers if it tastes good. Don't smoke it if you aren't enjoying it.

If the cigar is "on" I'll burn it till my fingers hurt. When it stops being enjoyable I toss it doesn't matter how much is left.

I find I have a hard time pitching cigars, even if I'm not loving them. I have this little voice in my head yelling at me that I could have bought something else with this money, so I'd better finish the damn thing. It's like when I was a kid and mom made me clean my plate. It wasn't an option...she made dinner and I was eating. Period. Of course, now we know that leads to childhood obesity....so I guess mom was wrong.

I generally smoke most cigars at least down to the band, mostly because I want to get my money's worth but also because I always have faith that a cigar can turn around and give me something good. But then, I don't smoke crappy cigars so the risk is low.

If it's really good, I'll nub it.

I'm with most. If it sucks I'll pitch it. However, to me, when a Nicaraguan is "on" the best puffs are when it's making my corn holder melt. :2

I had a friend years ago that proclaimed that "nubbing" was something that a true gentleman NEVER did, no matter how good the cigar.

When I told him I wouldn't waste the cigar, he took to calling me a brutish nubber.

I don't usually stick with a poor tasting cigar for long. Also, I usually don't nub a cigar. Once I hit the heat, I am usually done. That is my personal preference.

I learned rather quickly to only "nub" a cigar if it is deserving. I think I was with Scott (Shilala) at a Pittsburgh herf when I heard him say "Life is too short to smoke bad cigars," as he tossed aside a CC that was plugged. I almost grabbed it and started to puff on it myself...but anyway the point was made and it stuck with me!

Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar. Other times, it is an 02 SIG V from massphatness

I rarely ever nub a cigar. I think I smoke a bit too quickly and they almost always get way too hot around the band.

This happens to me pretty often. It smoked fine till there's about 2-2.5 inches left then, sometimes, it will taste bad...no matter how long I wait between puffs...

I only nub a cigar if it is so good I can't put it down, now that I know what I like, and have a stash of good cigars, it happens fairly often. Mediocre ones I usually smoke to the band and if it isn't good by then it goes in the trash. Of course there have been a few I couldn't even get an inch into. Cigars should be relaxing, not a test of your gag reflex, if it is unenjoyable toss it.

I smoke a cigar halfway and then think about the second half. If I taste tar of any kind, I toss it. I rarely smoke a cigar
to where there is 1/4 of it's length left. The butt ain't nuthin but a filter.
