Car guy, just don't do racing of any kind. I'm just a cruiser. Looking forward to a few good cruise nights.
Thinking about heading down to Mustang Unlimited in CT on April 29th for their anual car show this year.

Maybe we can all get together for a smoke and watch some good car racin at limerock seeing that you guys are in MA.

I've been 1/4 mile racing Vettes for years in the past at Englishtown and Eastern Suffolk LI... Just traded in my 08 Z06 for a P 911 Turbo. Did some computer work on it and she's close to 600 Horses. Next up...The intercoolers. Love the all wheel drive and the fact that things just don't break so easy on this car.

In the end, I was uneasy about Maserati maitainance and being stuck with the dealer for everything. My old Maser I could fix or have fixed easily by any good Italian car place; not so with the post-Ferrari stuff. On top of that, the amount of failures and nickel and dime stuff was just too much to warrant as a daily driver. Even though the engine is Ferrari developed, it sure does not sound very exciting stock. There were few attributes outside of looks or nameplate to win me over.
I'll wait for the Alfa 4C if I go Italian again.

I wonder how it really compares to Lotus Elise. Elise is a little too small for me to be a daily driver. Almost zero storage too. I love the Alfa Brera, that's one hot looking car for a regular price. Really love the Renault Clio Turbo, that thing is straight out dope!

I am all signed up for the SRT Track experience at Englishtown Raceway.
I figure if I'm going to head out on the track for the first time, might as well do it in one of Chrysler's cars instead of mine.
I'm a little hesitant to get completely into this, as so far it's been just as expensive, if not more expensive than cigars.
Would like to take my car down the strip once, just to see what she posts.
Also would like a tune, but none are available yet. :(

WOW... I just finished reading up on it. A lot of MOPAR guys are petitioning it on line. A good friend of mine is a tuner but doesn't touch MOPAR at this time. Guess you might have to swap out the pcm for an older model one if that works.
mosesbotbol
05-02-2012, 07:49 AM
Why would they do that? If the ECU could be altered, Mopar could offer add-on performance parts and even supply different mappings for a cost. As long as the program is submitted to Dodge they can OK it for warranty purposes. Bucking the consumer on a halo car like Challenger SRT makes no sense to me.

Yeah, not worth it for me right now.
I've read up on it, not just a PCM swap.
Apparently you have to have a custom wiring harness built as well, since the 2010 PCM will not physically fit into the 2011-2012 cars.
Will just keep my fingers crossed.
There are some reports that Mopar will release it's own canned tune.
That honestly would be fine with me.
I just want the engine to wake up a bit. :)

We almost went that road for my wife, but the car ended up costing almost the same as an x3 on lease. We decided it wasnt worth it and went with something less expensive, a loaded rouge. I looked at one in 2010, also test drove the Forester turbo. I wanted to test drive the 6 cylinder Outback but none of the dealerships could get one, said I had to special order it. The Forester Turbo definately had the better power. I just felt that outback didn't have the power that it needed for the size car. That being said it was a great driving car. drove smooth and ver responsive.

It is a carseat issue for us. With offspring #1 arriving in September, we have to ditch the Mazda3. Since the carseat has to fit rear facing for 2 years, we went ahead and bought one to take test driving.
Here is a list of cars that it does not fit in without having to put it in the center or moving the passenger seat up to an uncomfortable level.
BMW X3
Volvo XC60/XC90/XC70 - We REALLY wanted the XC60 to work
Ford Edge, surprisingly
Nissan Rogue
Mercedes GLK350
Mazda CX5
Ford Escape
Toyota Highlander
Acura RDX barely worked, MDX was a no-go
The Outback was the first one we drove and what we ultimately decided on. The seat can be nearly all the way back and the seat still fits. Plus is has a cavernous cargo space. With the seats folded flat, there is just a hair over 7 feet of floor space. This is another big issue for us since we do not have a truck.
A lease is not an option as we drive them until they fall apart

My buddy also has a GTR and is a GTR tuner (for just about all of them in MA) and I can't imagine a car getting much faster than that. Truly amazing machine in terms of speed and technology. The debate over supercharger vs turbo on s2ks is like cc and nc :). The turbo actually gets much better power down low and much hiher power at the top end. I track the car and wanted a quick spool. Plus this full race turbo kit is very reliable. I have over 40k miles on my setup with stock engine!

Last week there was over a dozen GTR's, a pair Ford GT's, a ton of Evo, a few Ferrari's, etc... all their customers onsite for their open house.
Man, do I like that Ford GT and I have grown up a Ford hater. Have to admit they've turned their product line around into something quite attractive.

I have a 2012 Challenger SRT.
The PCM in the car is locked with rolling encryption, and has yet to be cracked. :td
Have you heard Mopar has licensed two manufactures to offer a tune for 2011 and later HEMI cars? This came out at the SEMA show. I believe Diablosport claims to have cracked the code as well.

Anyone own a certified pre-owned BMW 3 or 5 series? I'm thinking my next car is a pre-owned BMW sedan, 3 or 5 series. Just curious what guys think about pre-owned BMW cars.

Had a cpo 07 7 series nothing but smiles. But dealers want to much for maintenance type work.

I don't hear much about guys having big time issues with CPO BMW's, but like you said, from what I hear maintenance is crazy.. By the way, a 7 series is my dream car:)

Was one of my favorites, some local shops can dave money in general maintenance. Or you could do it yourself. Almost got a 2010 750. Stay away from perillo.

My friend bought a 2010 3 series cabrio and he paid extra for wheel insurance and something else which sound like a waste of $, but he has had to replace two wheels and two tires within 6 months. Some people have crappy luck with cars and others rarily need any service.
Can't say I am a big fan of the marque. Personally, there are only a few BMW's that are striking to me; X6 and Z4. Kind of dig the X3 too. There's a BMW dealer 1.5 miles from my house.
Another friend is leasing a 7 series you'd drool over. It was a special order with unique brown leather over black that the original buyer backed out of. He got like 25K off of MSRP so his lease rates are like $900 a month on 100K+ car!

Stock transmission, but using a Clutchmasters 850 twin disc to hold the power, brutal to drive with on the street. Axles are stock as well, they can be easily broken by a full throttle clutch dump. The trick is to roll into the power as to not shock the system. The tune is by EPL and is flawless. Could be used as a daily if one wanted, but 690hp (crank) is a bit much on the streets

Yup, had a XJ8 Vanden Plas (which I sold to my accountant and he is loving it), and now have an XK coupe. Jag still caters to the car smoker. Owners manual calls it a cigar ash tray, the VDP had ashtrays everywhere along with lighters and even the XK it is easy to smoke a cigar in!
For me, the Brits are making the best looking and reliable cars in their history. Ill put any of the imported to USA British marques against any car from Germany, USA or Japan in terms of fit, finish, quality and of course design.

How much work can an average home mechanic do on a 750?

Is that a C2 or C4? Looks awesome!
Hey Moses, sorry about the long interval for the response! I kind of lost track of this thread!
Anyway it's a C2. The C2 is a bit more fun to drive! I've had it on the track at Reno Fernley Int. Raceway, but only as a DE car. The 944 is the racer. Our little P-car group gets together a few times a year for herfs as well. Thanks for the complement, it is a wonderful example for its age.
