This is my first cigar review, the I've ever took the time to "publish"

The stick :

I couldn't take any pictures while I was smoking it, because I was outside and the only camera I have is on my iPhone :r

Anywho ;

When I first got the cigar, a few weeks ago, I saw it and just thought "Wow...that's black". It's the darkest wrapper that I've ever seen in person.

Pre-Light : There is very little smell to it at all. A tiny hint of barnyard catches my nose, but nothing else. This was my first cigar with a pigtail, so I just pulled it off. To my surprise, it drew perfectly without cutting either end. The pre-light draw tasted pretty sweet, nothing familiar.

First 1/3 : After the first few puffs, I was excited. I don't know how to describe it, but the feel on my palate was almost...velvety? It was so smooth. I'm not an expert, but I tasted some dark chocolate on the very back.

2/3 : It stayed 99% the same, but every few puffs exuded this wonderful berry taste. That's the best description for it. It was sweet and fruity. It only came every few puffs, though.

Final 3rd : With about an inch and a half left, the strength really kicked up, for me. I hadn't eaten in 5 or 6 hours, so that might have been the case. I slowed down the draws because of this. Every puff for the last 3rd was bright, sweet and crisp. Just wonderful all around.

Final thoughts : If I could get this in a smaller size, it would be the perfect stick. It took me about 2 hours to smoke down, but they were probably the best 2 smoking hours I've ever had.

I'd give it a 9.8/10. The only drawback was the size of it. Had it been smaller, it would have been perfect.

I'd like to thank Jason (KydSid) for this amazing stick. My best smoke yet. I'd also love to know where I could get any more, if possible

For the benefit of those who may not know who Jason is, could you mention his user name?

Thanks for the review Nick, I know it takes some guts to share your thoughts on a cigar for the first time.
That is a gorgeous looking stick. I am a little confused, did Jason roll this himself?

I think he may have sent an un-banded one in the NST

He told me it was a custom roll. I didn't ask him to clarify if he rolled it or not. Maybe when he sees this, he'll shed some light on it!

Looks like it's a custom roll from a vendor that cannot be posted openly on this forum :2

Kind of a goofy and roundabout way to say you think it's Cuban. Curious as to how you can tell (or draw a conclusion) from a picture.

It looks very much like one that I have. There's been debate on whether it really is cuban or not though.

So would I! :r

I may not be smarter than a 5th grader but that stick is older than one! I found two, smoked one the night I sent out your NST and sent you that one. And if I did know the vendor it could be posted on this forum, at least I'm mostly sure of that.

And no I did not roll that cigar. I have rolled a cigar before at a couple events, but my cigars looked like they were rolled by someone with the DT's.

As Peter wrote, it's pretty hard to tell what a naked cigar is from pictures. That being said, the pictures and review remind me of a JFR Maduro--though I don't think they've been around as long as most fifth graders. But I do know of some...less scrupulous...vendors who've relabeled them as custom rolls in the past.

Regardless of what it was, though, good job on a blind review, especially for your first one!

Just walked in and looked at the JFR and have to agree it is identical to this cigar.

The JFR does look very similar...

I grabbed these photos from my local B&M. These are three JFR Maduros they had on hand. Compare and decide....

Burn has a JFR with an Oscuro wrapper that is a lot darker than those pictured above. I'll try to get a pic of it next time I'm in. Very good cigar.
