digital hygrometer life?

I have a bunch of those small digital hygrometers that seem to be going on the fritz after two-three years. The readout seems to freeze at 10% humidity and -50 degrees after I replace the battery. Are these $25-30 devices meant to give up the ghost after a few years or am I just very unlucky as this is the 3rd time this has happened to me?

I've got 4 I bought from wally world a few years ago and there still going, had one from cbid lasted a couple of years until I let the battery go dead and just haven't picked up a new one yet. What brand do you have ?

Are they Hygrosets, Hugh? It's kinda hard to narrow down "small digital hygrometer". :)
