So, I had this cabinet humidor in a room that several of us turned into smoking lounge. Had a "recommended donation" sheet in there along with a "Scott's Only" section. Came in today to check humidity levels and have a cigar. Noticed that some things were a little off. Several boxes were messed up and most telling, one of my recirculating fans was face down. I don't know about you, but I'm kinda particular about how my humidor is.

So, I decided to look around a bit. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!

First thing I checked was the Cuban boxes. MISSING 18 Cuban cigars...including 8 Trinidad Fundadores, 5 Monte Cristo #2, and 5 Cohiba Siglo VI's. Panic sets in. Someone went through my cabinet shelf by shelf. Left the bundles, the Gurkhas, the Padilla's and Perdomo's. Took the Diesel, the Fuentes, Punch, Fonseca, DPG Blue labels, Tatuajes, and a ton of others. Total, about 60 sticks.

Whoever it was, knew what they were doing. They took the good stuff. The expensive stuff.

I'm gonna go cry.

Wasn't at my house. No clue on who did it, but one of the other guys might. He rents out the other parts of the building to groups. I'll talk to him tomorrow. Honestly, if I could even get part of them back, I'd do it. No questions, no issues...just give me my sticks back.

Yeah...one of my friends owns an old building downtown. We converted the back room into a private lounge and the rest into a private movie theater...liquor lockers, full kitchen, etc. It really is a cool place. Just, sadly, not a place I can leave my cigars anymore. They've been there for about a year with no problems at all. Really sucks.

Thief will return to the scene of the crime. You may want to formulate a plan or amnesty route for Mr/Mrs.. Scumbag. Too many cigars to smoke. (he/she) still has them, and if they have a conscious they are starting to burn inside with guilt. I would make a poster with a drop box or instructions on how to return the stolen goods. Can't hurt and gives you something to do other than fry eggs on your forehead.

Question: Is this community smoking room one that is lockable? If so, who else may have a key(s) to this room? Who used the room between the last time you accessed the humidor and when you noticed the loss from your humidor?

Finally, I think I would simply keep my "inventory" at home from this point on. You can still use the community smoking room sans a humidor in it. Its a shame I know, but if you do not know others who may have access to this room, then you're simply taking a big chance (unless you enjoy playing Russian Roulette with your inventory):tu

Thanks for the support guys. Humidor is home, where it belongs. Lesson learned. Unfortunately, out looks like a ton of people went through there this last week. The building got rented to three different groups for parties. Gonna listen for rumors and keep an eye on craigslist.

Were your smokes the only thing tha was stolen from this- "lounge" or whatever it is? I'm unclear about exactly what it was, who had access to it, etc. Could a party have thought the cigars were there for the taking as part of the rental of the hall? Seems to me that SOMEONE should be able to do a little detective work and discover at least to some degree what happened here. It sure is a sad state of affairs when people take what isn't theirs, but I feel that you could at least be able to narrow it down a bit. As everyone said, this sucks big time and hopefully you will be remunirated in some form for the loss. The person who rented the "lounge" should be held responsibe to some degree for not vetting those that used the space. It breaks my heart to read this, brother!

Someone who gets that upset over questioning raises some red flags. You could always get super sleuth on them with a motion activated aimed at the Humidor. A cam with a 16gig micro SD shouldn't run you more than 75 bucks plus it has infinite uses.

I was thinking about this, Scott. It looks like a textbook example of when friend/someone close steals. They had something specific in mind, knew where to find it, knew how to avoid detection, and knew when to strike. They also only took cigars. Not anything else. I'm also guessing nothing else appears broken/damaged. If it were a random grab, they would not have spent time with grabbing specific cigars. They would've grabbed as much as they could, and probably reached for bundles to maximize the amount of property stolen. The door to the humi would've probably been wide open too.

To me it looks like someone close took advantage of you.

Sucks, as I've had that happen to me. Not with cigars, but other property. I did catch the guilty party. I was riding in a car with him, he had to slam on the brakes for some reason, and my property slid out from under the passenger seat, and hit the back of my feet. I did not get physical with him, but the loss of my respect towards him was punishment enough. He has avoided me ever since, and that was about 10 years ago.

Not a member but when dani's sister was dating him I had made an effort to get to know him and had him to the club several times. He always expressed a lot of interest in my cuban collection. In talking with Jeff, one of my partners, apperantly, he had left out unlocked several days that week so the people renting it could set up, ect. Would have been very easy for J to come in and lighten my load. He had been there in the past, he knew what he was looking for and he's an @$$hole. Not gonna do anything until I have more confirmation than pure rumor/friend of a friend stuff, but I think this is a fairly solid lead.
