I thought this might be fun. I searched and found nothing.
What was the first hand rolled cigar you ever had?
And maybe a few words on why/how.
MINE
Acid Kuba Kuba
I was on a California road trip with a friend (a couple years ago)and wanted something different. I smoked machine made cigars on occasion (alot) but wanted to step it up.The B&M lady pointed my to some "beginner" smokes....:tu
Post away.

Bolivar Royal Corona.
I had been smoking machine mades for well over 10 years, often on a daily basis.
Went to Nassau and there was an LCdH store, as opposed to all the fakes that were being sold in 99.9% of the places on the Island. Decided I should try a Cuban cigar.
It was all over after that. Smoked mostly premium NCs for a year or two, then went to the Dark Side for keeps.

TBH... I think it was a RyJ Churchill. I had a RyJ Tubo #1 before that, but I think it was one of the medium filler machine made ones that they had at the time (back in 99).

Almost 40 years ago; La Aurora corona with the claro wrapper. At a wedding, the father of the bride gave one to every guy there.
Thing is, I haven't any recollection whatsoever of whose wedding it was...but I remember that cigar.

Macanudo something. I was thinking, what is this supposed to taste like? So, I joined a forum and bascially I was told "nothing" :r A guy on there sent me some better smokes, and it was all down hill from there.
Legends (Copper Lable....Drew Estate of course)
I was at my neighbors house and he wanted to burn a cigar and offered me one...couldnt say no, took it, burned it and it was great :tu

It was probably a Don Diego or something like that. I was about 16 or 17 and my buddy snagged some sticks from his dads humidor, we bit the caps off and lit them with a zippo while shooting pool.

They weren't a bad cigar...if you could get one that didn't have draw problems. I got lucky on the first cigar and it drew like a dream.

Hmm........The first one I can actually remember would have been a punch cigar I bought at a strip club I do believe. It was harsh and nasty but thats probably because it wasn't properly stored either.
The first memorable one was a Java wafer by drew estate I bought at a cigar shop for my birthday.

Cohiba Siglo 1.
A bunch of guys I used to work with used to get together every month or so for a bourbon on a buddy's deck, and to get caught up. I was at one such gathering, and the host said, "...hey, T.L., I'm going to have a cigar. Want one..?.." Now, I'd smoked the occasional Macanudo or Hav-A-Tampa over the years in my ignorant youth....but I'd never had a "real" cigar. He opened his humidor and it smelled SO GOOD I said "...sure. Give me a little one...". Well, the rest is history....:tu

My first was an unbanded, rum infused cigar that a buddy gave me while we were watching a Mike Tyson fight back in college. I thought it was pretty good at the time.

A Hemingway Classic.
Was at a gathering with friends, and was told we'd probably be smoking some cigars, so at the recommendation of one of them I went to Pipes by George and asked for a good recommendation for myself and a few other cheaper ones for people who I knew would forget. All down hill from there as two weeks later I had my first PAM 64, to this day my second favorite smoke.

Mine was a no-name house smoke from a local B&M given to me by my brother. I don't really remember if it was good or not (probably not), but was a great experience to share my first real smoke with my older brother.

Smoked some cheapie Tinder Box brand at my best friends bacehlor party back in 97...had about 3, all were my first cigars ever....
He asked me what I wanted a couple of weeks later for being his best man, I told him a good cigar. The B&M pointed him towards the Ashton's and thats what I got.......downhill since....

Honeymoon in `03. Cancun, Mexico.
Wife and I were walking around through the market and of course came upon a cigar dealer who claimed it was Cuban. I bought it and smoked it that night after the wife went to sleep (passed out from exhaustion from the activities of the day). Sat on the beach and enjoyed the experience. It was a knock off Cohiba, and I don't recall if the stick itself was good or not, but the experience was great.

IIRC my first premium cigars were some Romeo y Julieta's I smoked with my crew mates (Navy deployed) while in Singapore around 1985. I don't remember the taste of the cigars, but I do recall enjoying the overall experience and the Tiger beers ;).

This is a tricky question. The first handmades I had were not the ones that hooked me. First was a Rocky Patel Vintage 90. But a buddy was smoking it and offered me a few draws, that was my first cigar smoking experience, didn't hook me.
Next was a Cuban Delights from another buddy a $0.80 Robusto that was actually pretty good, got me wanting to try some more cigars...
It wasn't til 2 months later I finally had another cigar and that sent me down the slope hard... Brace for it!

I know, I know, shoot me now, acids are one of my least favorites now, but those things just hook newbies left and right.

Aside from the wooden-tipped stuff I smoked in college to try to look cool, my first real cigar was an Onyx Reserve Mini Beli about 10 years ago. I bought it at a liquor store, and only because I liked the look of the really dark wrapper with the white band. It stained my mouth and fingers black, and it knocked me on my ass (or maybe it was the Jack Daniels). Anyway, it was $4, and my friends thought I was nuts to spend that much on one cigar! Oh, how times have changed...

Acid Blondie...and to think I enjoyed these at one time.
I was pretty lucky on my first cigar. When I got to Germany, my boss was big into cigars.. I expressed interest in trying cigars, so he took me down to the tobacco shop downtown and had me buy a Montecristo #2.. that was 1989. I enjoyed it and that pretty much settled my habit.

Had a dorm mate across the hall that smoked pipe, and I went to Iwan Reis with him to get a new pipe. Decided to grab a cigar to smoke with him. Montecristo #3. I remember liking it, but now that I'm more seasoned I'm tempted to try another.

First time I had a handrolled was actually the first time I had smoked period. And by my lonesome, I've learned quite a few life lessons from that NC Punch Robusto...
#1 Don't smoke on an empty stomach
#2 Cigars aren't meant to be smoked front to end in 5 minutes
#3 Inhalation, although possible, will put you on your ass if you're not ready for it.

Oh, there was a cigar when I was a kid, but I don't count that one! First as a serious smoker was (I think) a CAO Moontrance, at a hunting club west of Tuscaloosa, from a stash of cigars my son had.
Romeo and Julieta. Don't remember what kind. Was 10 years ago and an old cuban friend no longer with us brought me into this sick, sick world of cigars.
RIP Lalo, you wil always be missed.

Way back in the day I started out smoking Te-Amos and Punch Maduros with the occasional La Unica mixed in. Also when I first started we only smoked once in a while usually when drinking. I was an off and on cigar smoker for a while until about 9-10 years ago I started to really delve into it and smoking more on a regular basis and than the slope struck!:D:r

My first cigar was a Gurkha Legend and it was horrible! I lit it using a BBQ lighter and got a lung full of overheated tobacco on the first puff. I've since gone back and revisited that cigar a couple times and found that it really is a terrible cigar.
My second cigar was a RyJ 1875 Bully, which I enjoyed immensely, although a lot of that had to do with the circumstances surrounding it.

I want to say it was a te amo. Its been over ten years since I smoked one. Kind of wondering what one tastes like now.
Although it wasnt my first cigar, it was the punch rare corojo that got me hooked deep, it was maybe six or seven years ago, still have two left from that original box.

The first premium cigar I ever had was a Cohiba red dot. I would pick them up on special occasions at B&Ms. The first cigar that got me seriously into cigars was the Acid Toast I was gifted by Taki. While I don't like infused sticks any longer I will always have a certain level of respect for them since they got me involved in this wonderful hobby. I have a picture somwhere of me and my wedding party smoking red dots about 6 years ago, I will have to dig it up.
