Is there someplace that gives a description of the different types? Like I hear virginia, latakia, perique (sp?), english, etc... I'm familiar with cigars, so I'm looking for a way to describe them such as a cigar would be. Mild, Medium, Full bodied,... smokey, chocolate, nutty, floral, etc...

I've got "fruit tart" and "vanilla" at home already and like them both ok, but want to try some normal tobacco too.

Just search for the blend you're interested in and they typically have at least a few reviews.

Just pick a few things and try them out, just like cigars, everyone has their own preferences. Personally I don't mind latakia blends, but I know a few guys who just can't stand latakia in anything. Pipe tobacco isn't very strong comparatively to cigars. I've only ever felt a nic kick from one pipe tobacco of all the blends I've tried.

Oh and, an english just refers to a tobacco with no flavoring/sweeteners added. Theres two types of pipe tobaccos, englishes and aromatics.

Tobacco reviews is great for different blends you can buy but theres a pipe tobacco section on the site pipes2smoke.com. It gives good short descriptions of the types and cuts of tobaccos.

If you want to know what the difference is between the types of tobacco check out the Pipedia page http://pipedia.org/index.php?title=Pipe_Tobaccos

I know I posted something about this a while back, detailed stuff. Anybody remember what thread that was?
