With the weather getting cold, at what temp do you stop smoking out side. For me it would have to be in the low 60s.

I sometimes brave the 5os with my heater on the porch, but not often.

If it gets below 20 or so, or if the wind is blowing and the weather is inclement, I just go in my Princess Party Shack (it doubles as a kids playhouse in the summer and has a small princess table and chairs in it, in addition to the regular sized chairs and table that I put in it. It was dubbed whilst drunk, and the name stuck)

Leave it to someone from Florida to refer to what northerners still consider short sleeve shirt temps outside to believe it's now time to go inside. :r

Oh well, I envy you. I'm hoping a relocation to the Orlando area is in my 5 year plan.

Never too cold. Probably won't see above the 30s until the mid to end of February. I just duck into the garage. Even with the garage door all the way up, (since my wife thinks the smoke will otherwise travel into the house) it's a little better than standing outside.

lenguamor
01-03-2012, 11:30 AM
Too cold is so cold that you can't bundle up enough against it to stay warm. At that point, the tobacco would probably freeze ahead of the cherry and it would be hard to keep it lit.

That's about it.

schollianmj
01-03-2012, 11:31 AM
I just tried to smoke a diesel, but it is about 23 degrees out and a nice steady wind... just couldnt enjoy it. that and i dropped the damn stickk adn it landed on the cherry splitting the wrapper... I used that as an excuse to put it out and come in and thaw.

Since moving to NC I have become a big p*ssy when it comes to cold. I voted for 50s and even that is pushing it.:r. Meanwhile back in NY the snow would be flying and my @ss would be outside enjoying one. Fortunately, there are still plenty of warm days here in the winter and usually January and beginning of Feb is the worst of it and than it starts getting warm again by mid to late Feb.

Bageland2000

Yeah I can do 50s if it isn't too windy. I smoke about 10,000% fewer cigars in the winter. If it's cold and/or windy I feel like there's no chance that it'll be relaxing. What then would be the point of smoking a cigar? I need to go to Icehog's basement:D

Upper/mid 40's is pretty much my limit, and at that point I'm pretty bundled up and probably have a log going in the little fire pit.

If it gets colder than that, I'll go find a casino to light one up in. The nice thing about Vegas is you're never more than 15 minutes from a cigar friendly casino. :ss

I have smoked outside in the middle of the night when it was -17 degrees. I love the winter and it is never too cold for a good cigar. Of course I prefer spring and fall weather.

Mostly it depends on the mood I am in and how much clothing I want to put on. It is never too cold though.

The crawl space under one end of my house, about 15'x15', is on the downhill side. It's been dug out and cinder blocked. I have to duck my head a little but with a heater and a 32" TV with cable, it works for me. I hate the cold. I go down there when it gets below 60F or above 80F(stays much cooler in the summer.) I am sure people will have their opinion. When I am at home on the Gulf Coast 50 degrees unless I have a good fire going. The cold there gets to your bones and there is no way to get warm. Two nights ago had one on the balcony at 23 degrees and a light snowfall and no heater.

Humidity , wind , and all that other weather stuff play a big factor to me.

I've got my stripes for smoking in the cold. Last winter when we had that horrendous storm after Christmas I was on the front porch with a buddy and his son in a blizzard, huddled around one of those little steel fire pits.

We smoked lots of pepin and fuente and polished off almost two full bottles of whiskey (Elijah Craig 18 and I think a Talisker 12.)

Our shoulders and backs were encased in snow and ice by the time we were done.

But we were THANKful! (and bloody pissed.)
