I've been using a plastic Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter and while it cuts decent I've been wanting to upgrade. Which would you recommend?

I have both, and use the Palio 90%+ of the time.

You use it 100% of the time, 80% of the time. :)

I have two Palios and that's all I use. I had a Xikar but it pinched my hands a couple times and that pissed me off, so it's gone.

I own three Palio's and love them. I've owned a couple of Xikar's but I did not like the cut, but I do like their mechanism. :2

My Palio is the only cutter I use, but I also only use a cutter on torpedoes and other shaped cigars. For all flat capped cigars I prefer a punch.

Palio for me.

From Anchorman on Sekks Panther cologne: 60% of the time, it works every time.

Xikar Xi3 here.... Have the carbon fiber model and I just love the look of it.... I have 3 other xikars lying around here somewhere too.... and a Palio..... I should probably find those

I have both and use the Palio most of the time. I only use my Xi2 when I can't find the Palio. I occasionally use the Xikar V cutter for small RG cigars and MTX multi tool when I have the time and good lighting. :2

Bought my first Palio and Xikar about 8 or 9 years ago I think and I've cut maybe 12 cigars with the xikar.......thousands with the Palio :tu

What he said. I've had both and preferred the Xi3 but there isn't anything wrong with the Palio. They are both great cutters. The Xikar X8 is another to look at... very nice cutter and a bit less expensive.

Had a Palio burlwood and was happy with it for the most part. Was not too smooth in it's action though. Got a Xikar Xi3 carbon and it screams quality. Use the Xikar 100% of the time now.

After owning my palio for a while now, I feel like it doesn't cut as well as the xikars I've used, which to be fair, hasn't been much since I don't own both. It seems like my palio went dull fast. It could very much be user error though. It did seem sharper when I first got it.

I had one of the first plastic Xikars as my first "real" cutter (the Xi1?). it was ok, but I swtiched over soon after to a Palio and never looked back...

Yes sir...Xikar looks cool but the Palio is a fine tool that does it's job perfectly.

Well over 1,000 cigars cut and the blades are just as sharp as when it was new.

Took a little bit of playing around with lighting angles and focus but that was about it.

Geez.. I have been eye balling Palio's for quite awhile. I used the cheap plastic cutters for years, then upgraded to a Xikar. That is all I have used for quite some time now, but since reading this thread I think I am gonna have to break down and buy a Palio. You guys sure do know how to get in my wallet lol...

My Xikar just stopped working - the spring or whatever it is inside no longer pushes the blades out.
Any suggestions?

Send it back or take to where you bought it...they carry a lifetime warranty.

I use(d) the Xikar simply because thye are always on top of my humis.... I don't like the blade thickness though because when your cigar is a bit on the dry side it can crack the wrapper a bit as it slices through. I think that generally the thinner the cutting blade is the better.

Yep ... was in the Puff Chat and EVERYBODY said Palio hands down! I have had the Xikar Xi1 for a couple months and though it looked cool I wasnt a fan of large blades and the way you kind of had to palm it to cut instead of the regular old school thumb and middle finger action, plus I have read the Xikars are a bit rough when cutting the cap due the large blades and I have had a couple wrappers come apart after a cut which made me not to happy when trying to smoke and pull the wrapper apart even more..

I have since sold the Xikar on the forum to another brother and ordered the Palio Carbon Fiber from CBID for $32 shipped ... it will arrive this coming Thursday!

Hope I made the right choice ... if not it gives me a reason to use the palio as my car / travel cutter and search for something new.

It seems though after hearing everybody rave in the chat and this thread plus many other threads about this .... that the Palio is the clear cut choice for cutter among 2/3 of users if not more!

I will let you know what I think after it arrives. :tu

Was a Xikar user converted to Palio 7 years ago. Palio is much easier to get a quality cut with.

But... If you are skilled with the xikar, I always preferred the cut they can make, its just a little different/more rounded vs the crisp straight cut of the palio. Then again, pretty easy to F it up with the Xiker.. thus my conversion.

BlindedByScience
03-22-2012, 03:39 PM
I have and use both. They are both high quality cutters and IMHO it's more personal preference than anything else. If you do the "score and lift" end cap removal method, the Xikar wins, hands down. If you are going for the straight cut, the Palio seems a little better. JMHO, YMMV, BBQ, Etc....

Opinions vary.
I think the basic black Palio is simple and elegant in design.

I love my Xi3 Titanium Nitrade cutter!!

Its way heavier than the "regular" metal gripped Xikars. I got a heck of deal on it, or I wouldn't have got it. At $90, its a little steep for my blood; but on a deal, yeh why not!?
